Do You Think Rene is a good managaer for Celine?

I think that once, he was great. Nowadays, it's hard for me to tell something about that...

I think he used to be a very good manager, not anymore. But even so, let's see the reasons why he was so good and he isn't anymore:

- Céline was someone fresh and new to the market;

- Sony had Tommy Mottola, not anymore;

- Céline and René were very driven, they wanted to prove themselves to the world and show what they could do, not anymore;

- They had a purpose, a goal... nowadays, not anymore.

- René was in his 50s, he's almost in his 70s.

- Céline fullfiled all her goals, she needs a new kick, a new challenge... but doesn't seem to care anymore.

The main point for me is: in the past they wanted to be big in the music business, to prove themselves. Right now they don't do that anymore, they have a stablished name, so the point now is to maintain a good and solid name for themselves and make some money along the way.

And please... Don't begin with the B*s* that Céline is who she is because René made her. Céline made her. She had a dream, René helped her. It doesn't mean that she wouldn't be successful with any other manager.

Let's give it a thought:

Would it be easier for Céline to be big with another manager or for René to be big with another singer? I believe the answer is very clear to everyone, or it should be.

For God sake, someday everyone will take credit for Céline's talent and carrer but Céline herself. That's very wrong. "Céline is who she is due to René" "Céline is who she is due to JJG" "Céline is who she is due to David Foster". C'mon... She is who she is because she's very talented and had a capable manager in the past. That doesn't mean she wouldn't be who she is (or even bigger) with anyother manager.

And about René's skills as a manager, look at Marilou or Garou (not anymore)... Do you even know who they are?

I agree.

Unfortunately I can't see Celine getting a new manager until Rene is with angels. He won't let someone take his place because Celine is his wife...

I agree with you Zorasourit :) René was a good manager, no question about it, but he doesn't care about the big decissions today anymore. And Céline Dion is who she is not because of René, but because of herself and her brilliant talent. René just helped her along the way bringing the best songwriters, producers, studios etc. But its her voice what makes the success at the end. It pleases or not :yes:

As my father said "there is no Celine without Rene" they understand each other. i don't think she wants to promote herself better/more. she wants to stay home with Rene-Charles. :)

I know Celine is married to Rene and he is the love of her life, but let's face it he's not very good when comes to promoting or marketing Celine. I have noticed right from the beginning that song writers (that did not make any hits for her) are extremely cheap and unkown. For crying out loud this woman is way above A class in the music industry get some good people. also there many songs that have been pulled of the album or are not released as a hit single when really they compare better than certain songs on the albums. Last of all Rene stop giving Celine some many renditions. Yes she creates a whole new world with the song but people no its not her song. That is way many critics say her music does not have emtion; the songs are not original.

have your say on rene.

i do not have anything against him just a tiny issue with his decision

I agree!!! I dont think Rene is good enough for Celine, at least for the period after 2002

And was Celine who decided to work not so hard since she became mother...

Celine is working MORE THAN EVER since she became a mother! But she is working in the wrong direction and that is Renes' fault!

Yes, I know who they are.

"Ma plus grande victoire, c'est d'avoir rencontré une femme sensationnelle. C'est un coup du destin. C'est ma récompense, peut-être, pour les années précédentes plus difficiles... Et mon autre plus grande victoire, c'est quand elle est tombée enceinte de René-Charles." René Angélil

I totally disagree. Every single move René Angelil makes is brilliant--- from her first record to the Taking Chances tour. Without him, she'd be nowhere.

I am 100% pro-René.

I agree! Rene might be old, but he is not stupid. People are very quick to judge. But the fact is none of us know what it really involves to manage a career as big as Celine's... Has it ever occur to some of you that Celine might not want to top charts anymore. I don't think she cares about charts anymore. I think they just want to enjoy the ride... And I prefer this. Celine did not have a life during the 90's. Now she is enjoying her life and we can enjoy it with her... If you don't like the singles they release, then don't listen to them. Nobody is making anybody listen to a song. And Celine is not over working because Rene is making her. B*s! Celine is a grown woman. And those of you saying that Las Vegas damaged her international repetation are talking rubbish. Celine is just as big as she was in the 90's if not bigger. If this was not true, then the TC tour would not have been one of the biggest grossing tours last year and of her career.

I would love to see some of the complainers do a better job.

Some of you might hate me for saying this but I'm just so sick of reading the same dam thing in every topic!

I think the whole "Rene made Celine who she is" thing comes from the fact that he took a chance, mortgaged his house to fund the career of a 12 year old girl, and has stuck with her ever since. How many people in the entire world would have been willing to do all that? IMO, Not many!

Of course that doesn't mean that she doesn't deserve credit for everything she's achieved, because she obviously does deserve a lot! :)

These topics bother me a little sometimes too because it seems that some people have very set ideas of what they want Celine to do in her career, and they don't really care that it's not what she wants. She's a very successful 41 year old woman, and if she's not happy with a decision that her husband/manager or even record company has made, I'm sure she's more than capable of speaking up!

For personal allusion... :rolleyes: Come on, are you on this planet Earth??. Do you really think she is as big as in the 90's?? :sofunny: Well, maybe we're talking in different senses. Maybe you mean she's the same or a bigger singer musically talking, or in her albums, songs, voice etc. But in the popularity aspect?? Come on...

And making a world tour with many sold out shows doesn't mean she's as popular as in the 90's. Many of people come because Céline Dion has a name today, and come to listen the Céline that become the star of MHWGO in the late 90's, but not because they necesarily know the Céline of today and her new songs, because they won't unless they have bought her new albums (as radios don't play her songs and as her record company has made big efforts for not promoting her) -_- .

Please come here to Europe and ask the younger generations if they know who is Céline Dion :mellow: And please, turn on the radio and try to get a song of Céline in radios today. Try to get one of the new songs post-2002. Try to see her on TV, whatever news they have to say, and you'll find any, when Madonna, Beyoncé and Mariah Carey are usually appearing one day after the other.

If that means for you that she's as big or even more as in the 90's... sorry you made me laugh :sofunny: :sofunny: :sofunny:

Oh, I'm so glad I could make you laugh. IMO topping charts or releasing nr. 1 singles does not make you big. The fact is Celine is a legend. A household name. All these artists topping the charts now will all be forgotten in a few years, while Celine will always be remembered for being one of the best singers in the world... But that is just my opinion. And for your information, here in SA they play Celine songs everyday on all our local radio stations. Sometimes they play up to 5 songs a day on the same station. She is the biggest selling artist in our country! Furthermore, both Alone and TC reached nr.1 on many charts here in SA.

P.S. The only reason Madonna, Beyonce and Mariah are everywhere is because they always show their big fat a*s (among other things) to the world... Apparently that is what you have to do nowadays to become popular. So Celine might not be popular among young people, but at least Celine has some class! Oh yeah, and she can actually sing...

Nearly everyone knows who Céline Dion is, even the younger generations. I played Christmas music for my CE2 class (9 year olds) and they all could tell who it was. I hear music from "D'elles" and "TC" from time to time on the radio and there are even TV shows where you hear her named. On April Fool's day M6 had an April Fool's spoof on Céline.

Céline HAS reached a legendary status... at 41! How many people do that? And she's still going strong. She may not promote her albums much anymore, but she sure sells out arena. I'm sure lots of people run out and check out her CD catalog after hearing a news spot of her tour or seeing her live.

"People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."

Hey, don't take that in offence! :thumbsup2: :bye1:

If course Céline is a legend already, but having her music played on radios and well promoted doesn't have nothing to do with showing herself nude and giving scandals to the tabloids. Its just the result of a poor management and an uninterested recording company that she has. Céline's been suffering a lack of promo and a complete lack of interest from her recording company since 2003, and René didn't do anything to change that. And its not about asking Céline to be in a hundred of shows every month in the world, or asking her to do 15 videoclips for each album. Supporting her music, sending to radios the proper songs, and making remixes don't require Céline personally to do that. But they don't do anything of that. I don't see Madonna or Beyoncé to appear in many TV shows and do the huge world tours that Céline do but her music is everywhere. They have support from her recording labels, they have support from radios. They have proper songs released and remixed to be danced in the weekends by the young audiences. Not Céline, and that is not her fault, but because of the lack of suppor she suffers. And she has those songs, but nobody in her team gives them credit :nono:

And I don't agree that Beyoncé is only succesful because of her body. She's a talented girl, and I think she's fighting to show that :yes: . I mean, she's not a Britney Spears, that's for sure. She has her feet well attached on earth.

I will not argue. It is true. Her albums are not well promoted. But I just think that it is wrong for everyone to blame Rene for that and on that basis claim that he is not a good manager. That is just wrong... Shouldn't SONY be blamed? I don't know, I'm just sick of people complaining about the whole promotion thing in every topic. And I just get annoyed when people claim that her repetation is damaged and that she has lost her voice and blah blah blah... Because that is just not true!

Of course its not only René's fault, because the main character to blame in all this story is obviously Sony Music (which is no longer Sony BMG btw :D ). Its Sony who decides how the promotion works, its Sony who decides which single is the next, and its Sony who decides or cancells a videoclip. But René, as THE manager, should have been there to push and give the best that every new album had within it, and I think he didn't, not conciously of course, but one thing is to say that "our goals have been all achieved, we don't want to focus on sales anymore", and other thing is to abandon and ruin every single album that Céline has released since 2002, condemning them to the oblivion in the second single and forgeting about everything after the release of the album.

Because its once after an album has been released when they had to do their best efforts. The album life has to last many months, and you only get that with the proper songs sent to radios and good marketing campaigns. But not forgeting the album once it has been released, as they have been doing with each one since 2003 :glare: And of course, not with choosing songs like HYEBIL or My Love for single and expect it to be played on radios... :doh:

I think he obviously is responsible for getting Celine to the status she has today. he is an excellent manager and I really am not sure if someone else handling her career would really be much better than him. I mean, you are assuming someone else would do things better and we really don't know if that would be the case. That being said it would interesting to see what would happen is someone else was managing her. One thing that would be good about that is that another manger would see things from a different perspective. I can't imagine that will happen, at least anytime soon.
Posted
At one time, Rene's managment of Celine was pure gold. It has definantly faded over the years, most likely due to Celine's requests. If she hadn't taken her hiatus in 2000, her album after All The Way probably would have sold close to 20 million or more and she would have went on a world tour and sold out many shows again, and released another huge selling album, and went on another tour, etc but that is not what Celine wanted. She wanted to be home and she wanted this and that and she has a right to what she wants, but I don't think it's all Rene and Celine's fault. They- Sony/Rene don't promote Celine or her albums or her contemporary songs enough, simple fact, but Celine isn't the innocient one in her own career! :P In the 2 years she took off, she was out of the public eye for the most part and interests strayed from Celine, which is natural. Her Career high was 2000 or so, and she has had many highs afterwards, TC tour, Vegas and all, but she was never as public as she was in the late 1990's. IMO.

First,i do respect him a lot.Second,he is not a God that we have to say amen cuz we'r not at the church.Third nobody said that he is not good managing,actually he was,and that way Celine got succeeded,but take a look on reality and review the things about her last promotions ESPECIALLY TC.Forth,when u look at it better,u'll see that the audience still loves her and supports her,buying her all editions like we all do here and that's how she is still really great star..Cuz we really love her and respect her.That's why.

Thank u Jesus. Im in ur hands now.

I can see both sides of the argument. Their relationship is like a double-edged sword. In the beginning when he was only artist/manager, there were boundaries, expectations and decisions made to create Celine as an international brand. Once they married, it fused together their dreams of stardom and seemingly made it easier for them, as they both had the same goals. Once Rene was diagnosed with cancer and they took their brake, their dynamic changed, and there seems to be a lot more emotion involved now. Their relationship as creative and emotional partners has grown into a synergetic balance, but there does appear to have been times where emotion overpowered a decision, and the choice kinda flopped, much like you've pointed out in your post.

All that, coupled with the idea that Celine is no longer in the business of "proving herself to anyone", they're relying on her core group of fans and the buzz around her celebrity to perpetuate her career into the coming years.

It's not "OMG, did you hear this singer... she's great!", it's "OMG, Celine is coming to town! MUST GET TICKETS!"

He could be more energetic as a manager!!!!After all,it's his job!Where was Rene when D'elles was produced?The same with Taking Chances...It's like there is no manager at all the last 6 years...I have the impression that Celine always does promotion of herself by her name,which is a legend!If she wasn't ''Celine'' noone would know that she was doing a world tour ...
