I love her low register too! Not that I don't love her high keys, I do, just as much. But she uses her low register so rarely, compared to her high notes. You can feel her in your stomach when she sings low, can't you? I don't know how to explain, but just like her high notes do something very pleasant to my ears, her low register does something nice to stomach

I've listened to this lots now...and it's grown on me, I must admit at first I was unsure but now I love it! Catchy too! I like how Celine does sound much more relaxed and free....I like the imperfections we can hear. She has such emotion in her voice.

It's really not that country. I guess if you don't listen to much country music you might think so, but it's really just a little country flavored.

 

She sounds amazing. It sounds so effortless and natural. I would love to hear her record an album like this!

Okay, I hear the country. To me it just sounds like Southern Folk Music though. Regardless, I think this is one of the best things she's done in years!

I've just watched Zachary Richard giving an interview at "La Fosse aux lionnes", a tv show on SRC in Montréal. He was presenting his new cd "Last kiss" which is out today I think. At one point we were able to listen to an extract of their duet "Acadian Driftwood"(Céline and Zachary).

Zachary confirmed this collaboration came about after he accepted Céline's invitation to sing with her last summer on the Plains of Abraham for her show for the 400th birthday of Québec city. When Céline joined him on "La Promesse cassée" he really deeply felt she had been able to enter his own personal musical universe in that song that night and it touched him very very profoundly. Afterward he knew he wanted to sing with her again so he called Céline and René and ask if Céline would sing a duet with him on his upcoming cd which was already completed he thought at the time. She accepted right away.

Then they had to decide what song they were going to do together. Then, he said, they didn't just want to put their two voices together on a song for a duet but they both wanted to make some kind of statement by singing together. Zachary's wife Claude suggested to Zachary and to Céline and René, a couple of songs that they loved for years she and Zac and that Zachary had been singing like forever. The two couple, Claude and Zachary, Céline and René, all agreed on Acadian Driftwood...not only because it was telling the story of Acadian, it could have been another story of another people he says(eventhough probably Céline had ancesters which were acadian like many Québécers have) he said. So they didn't want to tell this story particularly but mostly they wanted both to make a statement through a song. He already knew how touched Céline was by everything that happened in New Orleans and her commitment and all...

They decided their statement was to sing about "courage and compassion". That's what they wanted both to sing to the world, a song where they would join both their voices singing about courage and compassion, that's what they wanted...

 

Anyway it's difficult to tell it as well as Zachary has said it, he explained it way better than I but I did my best here to share with you what I recall was said of the part of his conversation with interviewers regarding their meeting(Zach and his wife Claude and Céline and René). People applauded in the studio after hearing part of their duet and Zachary seemed very touched and proud to have done this collaboration with Céline. They seemed to have really connected and Zachary was still touched telling how his musical collaboration with Céline came to life. I got the impression their musical connection was really unique.

 

I personnaly hope they are able to collaborate again one day...

I simply adore it! I love it how she keeps it low until the middle and then lets go. She sounds great, different and very.... free. Usually, she does what producers tell her, when she's in the studio. But here you can actually hear how much she enjoyed it, how much of herself it's put into the song. It's like she's just jaming with Zachary, or like one of those sound bites from her sound checks, where we hear her do whatever she pleases and not stick to the songs' melodic lines necessarly. I just love it! Hope we'll get a video of the recording session, that'll be amazing!

 

I guess it's a matter of taste. As for myself I agree completely with you Teodora! I just loooove it!

 

This is country-folk, a very different sound for Céline but very suiting I feel. I think she sounds amazing in it, free and great as ever using her lower register. I also love the fact that Céline is exploring other path, she can sing so many things and those english lyrics are very interesting too. I like the song and I love their voices together. In fact I just adore this collaboration with Zachary, very warm and very refreshing at the same time. Thanks Zachary for asking Céline eventhough you thought your cd was already complete. You made the right choice. Aww when destiny calls....

I've always liked Zachary, I adore Céline and the song is wonderful so.. I'm in heaven really:wub:

Hey Zach! I understand how you feel completely I knew this collaboration on the Plains of Abraham would make you want to collaborate with Céline again....I was so sure about it and I am SO glad about it..Nothing happens for nothing!

I'm not sure if I really like it all that much. It sounds like she sang through clenched teeth for most of the song, then started her little squeals/yells at the end [a la IDAN, TPOL, RDMH live], which kinda stood out a lot more then the rest of the track. It was pretty soothing, nice to listen to up till then. This was the first time I listened to it all the way through; I tried two other times but couldn't manage to listen to it all the way through those times.

 

At least nice to know she's doing different things. The lower tones in her range can sound so rich and warm, and I love it when she plays around with them.

I love this song more and more each time I listen to it! And I've been listening to it on repeat since yesterday, I can't get enough!

Her low key register is so, so colourfull and she plays with it so much. If you listen carefully, there are nuances of her voice we have not yet heard, which I love. And I'm simply addicted to the "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah"s in the end!

And I don't think it's all that country. It has a country flavour to it, but it's not country music per say. The style reminds me of Kid Rock's latest album and his song Roll On.

Anyway, I adore Acadian Driftwood. Fingers crossed for a single/video release.

I must admit that I wasn't too thrilled with it the first time i heard it but it has definitely grown on me....I can't stop listening to it now!! its been on repeat all day!! love the song and i def. love celine and zachary richard together!! i loved their work on sur le plaines.... yummy song

cause after i read the history of acadian it does give the song another level
