It is about the Acadian deportation (french from america), when the british gvnt decided to put the acadians in ships, separate them by age and sex, and send them to different states of the atlantic coast. Most of those states didn't want them either, so a part was parked, some had to stay in the ships or live on the beaches, other were put in jail, other shipped to england, etc. Some ships sank too.It's a bit like the jews' diaspora, only in the 18th century. Acadians now live in different parts of the US, and france + UK, according to those forced migrations.
