Josh Groban's Noel tops the 5 million mark this week. It's the fourth holiday album to reach that threshold, following Kenny G's Miracles-The Holiday Album (7,215,000), Celine Dion's These Are Special Times (5,123,000) and Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas (5,048,000).

Well, from what I've seen, D'eux will not be toppled off its 15 year perch for quite some time. That is because hardly anyone is buying albums anymore, and aside from the abnormality of Taylor Swift (her album has gone 5x Platinum in the United States, and has sold around 7.5 million copies worldwide), albums are getting harder and harder to be certified. I don't think any French-language album will sell 8.5 million copies ever again. D'eux was a phenomonon, a freak of nature. We (Celine fans) can at least rest assure that this album will always, or for a very, very long span of time, be the best-selling French-language album in the history of music.

In France, where it is currently the biggest-selling album of all-time, it is in serious danger of losing its crown; Deux has shipped around 4.4m copies, compared to #2 album Thriller which has shipped over 3.6m copies

If your figures are correct, that means Celine is still ahead by 800,000 copies. I don't see how D'eux is "in serious danger of losing its crown"... When you think that very few artists can now sell over 500,000 copies of a CD in France (and many other countries too)... it will be a very long time. Of course MJ's death accelerates sales but it will slow down eventually...

Michael Jackson has sold that hundreds of thousands of copies of Thriller since his death. His actual shipments might be closer to 4m - my 3.6m is simply an estimate. We won't know until his catalogue is re audited. Whilst Jackson shifts a tonne of CD's on catalogue, Celine doesn't.
