Lara was very popular in Portugal in 2000. Her album was # 1 for a several weeks and the album was like 4 or 5 times platinum

In Brazil also, just because "Love by Grace" was the opening theme of a very popular Soap Opera.

Well, Elwood's fan several of Céline's albums were several times platinum. I'm not sure but I would guess that at least FIY, LTAL, ATW and ANDHC are at least 2x platinum. Maybe someone can come up with the real numbers here.

We were just saying that Lara's album was huge in Portugal and Brazil in 2000, because "Love By Grace" was the theme song of a very famous brazilian Soap Opera. And when that happens, in Portugal and Brazil, that song usually turns out to be a very big hit.

NO. L'Amour existe encore IS a Celine original. Not a cover. But many singers would love it to be theirs... including Larka!

Yes, many of them but L'AEE was written by Plamondon for Celine! One of her best French songs ever I think.

No, Jeroen, I think it had three or four original songs in it - DMQS, LAEE, JDDMT and I don't remember which one :hmm:

It would be quite exciting to listen to Lara's version. Celine's version of LAEE is one of her best songs EVER so it'll be quite tough to replicate the emotions and vocal histrionics in this one. Although I was hoping for PQTME. I really liked her version in the En Toute Intimite dvd... sad that it wasn't included in the cd

Actually Lara's an idiot. 1999 was not too late. Sony released her CD with 100% money back guarantee - they don't do that for anybody not even Celine.

Well, SONY did that as well for Céline. The slogan in early 1994 was "Remember the name, the voice is unforgetable". Sony was so sure we'd like "The colour of my love" that it came with a 100% money back guarantee!

As for Lara covering "L'amour existe encore"... I'm sooooooooo glad! We've already heard her sing Pourque tu m'aimes encore, so it's great to hear Lara sing something else. Lara is one of the most emotional singers I've ever heard, so I'm really looking forward to this cover album. I love Lara's voice, her interpretations of songs, her live performances... The only thing Lara is lacking of are brilliant songs. She has great songs on every album, but there are also a few weak songs on every album. I hope that's not the case this time as she can pick the best of the best songs written in history!

One of the best ever I agree and my favorite ever of Céline's french signature song. I adore what Céline has done with this song, :in_love: especially the french original eventhough I like the spanish version too.

Now, learning L will cover this song depresses me a lot! :down: No other female singer at home would have recorded it eventhough everyone said for years they were all so jealous of that song Plamondon had written for Céline. One of the best songs Plamondon has ever written for Céline or for any other artist imo. My favorite Céline song EVER, covered by Lara. :nono: :nono: Another bad move, again nothing to make me like her. :rolleyes: Why can that singer ever do her things without being link to Céline in some sort of way always.. Geez! I guess people of Québec would understand where I'm coming from on this..

Don't want to offend anyone and no one needs to agree with me on this and those who like this singer please do....I surely don't and won't ever understand how she's conducting her career. :doh: To top it all, she had to choose my all time favorite of Céline. :angry2:

Besides, you don't have to listen to Lara's version if you don't want to. It does make a lot of other people happy. Isn't that what's most important?

I don't think she's doing it to honor mostly Céline but to bring more attention to this cd. That's my personal opinion. And believe me, eventhough I don't want to listen to it or even hear about it, it won't be possible to escape from it.. :giggle: You have to know that in Québec everything Céline or that is link to Céline even in the smallest ways is talked about always in a big way and make news. Lara knows it as well as I do...it could be good or bad for her, we'll see. Anyway I'm glad for those who it will please. If Lara wants it to go well here she will have to cover it in a very different way, not even close to Céline's version. Then, maybe, just maybe, it will get good press. But it remains to be seen. I guess she has enough experience now to know that.

Of course Céline has sold much more records worldwide.

But that's not really important. Way back in the early 90's, I was already a huge Céline-fan. When I told people about her, everyone said: "WHO??? Never heard of her." It didn't make me feel less about Céline. In fact, I find her "celine dion" album still her best up to today.

I also enjoy Lara's work a lot. As long as she keeps on making cd's, I don't really care how much they sell.

Lara and Céline have very similar voices. People who are not into Céline as much as I am, always think that I'm playing Céline when I'm playing a Lara album.

However, they are very different when it comes to concerts. Lara is much more emotional and dramatic. Céline is much more a showgirl and entertainer. I love both.

To me the francophone market being a much smaller one with fewer artists I think some things aren't perceived and welcomed the same way and are not as common to do as for a worlwide market. In French(especially in Québec) people usually make covers of songs and/or people that are dead or do remake and bring back "old hits" of other generations that we don't hear much anymore. Of course, there are always musicals that everyone covers...To me I find those two market to be very different ones and I perceive them in a very different manner. And I admit I buy a lot more french then english cds myself. Anyway everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course and that is my final post on this subject.

Because Céline's name is link to her next upcoming cover cd, this news I saw in between other Céline news.

So, for those interested, LF's cd that was suppose to be release December 1st has now been postponed to early March. :hmm:

how did people react then, when Céline recorded Tu Nages and Rien n'est vraiment fini. and btw LAEE is already 17 years old... :whistling: Waiting untill someone is dead might have been done in the last century... but i don't think that's relevant anymore, escpecially not with all the idols, popstars, x-factor shows where every song of current artists are being killed.

and I think it's smart they used Céline's name to get in the news! At least they know how to do it! When EOM was released they never ever mentioned Delta Goodrem in the UK, not in Australia, now there's a missed chance -_-

X Factors, Idols...(Star Académie here) are covering many songs here also but I was talking about recording a french cover for a french market. I wasn't suppose to post anymore :giggle: but from what you said Davey, I'm curious now, does those idols do record actual cover cds? :hmm:

BTW eventhough she's done a few(in her 28 french carreer) Céline is very far from being perceive as a cover queen in her french career and this is about recording a french cover in this topic. It's only Céline's french carreer and recording I was referring to.

Sorry if you feel my opinion is from a past century. :hmm:

But to me there is no right or wrong here it's a matter of opinion, perception, taste and different approach in a different market that is the closest to me.

People make covers here all the time too on TV shows and everything you know. :yes: I guess the show you're talking about would be "Les enfloirés" ou "Les restos du coeur"? In Québec, Dan Bigras for instance does a charity show each year called "Le show du refuge" (for young homeless people) where many artists gather to do somes covers and especially special and unique duets or trios. It's the same here. I'm just talking about recordings, not performing of course.

But I have to admit that in recent years there is a more covers being done on recordings then ever. To me it's a sign that music isn't selling that well these days and it's kind of a way to attrack people with sure material that's been tested already. That's why record company always suggest strongly one or two covers even on original material cds.

About beginning to like a song that you didn't like before... it's nice to know that it brought a new outlook on your part and that you could enjoy a song you didn't like before. In that case, I understand why you feel that way. As far as I am concern it never happenned to me I don't think. You know even some Céline english covers she recorded I would have done very well without like "When I need you" for instance. I never liked that song and doesn't like it better since Céline sang it. POL has never been one of my favorite either of Céline(the performance was great but the song I didn't liked better) and she had her first number one with it :doh: . So I guess "tous les goûts sont dans la nature" has some say. :giggle: and it's good that it is that way!

I have to clear this up. I don't have any connexion to this site (that this forum wants to call a copycat one - I DO like it though!!!).

And I precise that my nickname is totally Greek as I am:

Céline=> σελήνη (Selini)=> moon

Maniac=> μανιακός (maniakos)=> crazy, maniac

And Lou555, I didn't mean YOU closed the topic. But what I say is that you want to continue saying that we, who also love Lara or other artists too, are not real Céline fans and should go to other forums to talk about them. But here, this is a topic about them and about their work... (on Céline of 'course!)
