"My Love" (single) on the charts

yeah she is not a gossip girl! today I requested "my love" on a local station (but with a good audience more than 1M for week) the lady who was on, aired it, said hello to me etc etc, but she needed to add something about celine I guess, well she talked about the house she bought in France that she will be Carla Bruni's neighbor etc etc ..see, she needed some "gossip" to add Edited October 21, 2008 at 09:49 PM by VinnyT.

There's no doubt that radio and TV do attach a stigma to Celine and decide not to play her material but some of the blame must go to Rene/Sony/Celine too.

 

When it was known Celine was "coming back" last year the hottest acts and writers in music were queuing up to work with her. When I say that I mean POPULAR artists who are influential in the charts these days, the type of artists who are relevant. The likes of Timbaland, Snoop Dogg and others were all quoted as to wanting to work with Celine. No-one was suggesting Celine fill her songs with expletives, dye her hair blonde (heaven forbid) or throw off her clothes, but these people could've dragged her music into the modern era.

 

But for whatever reasons "Taking Chances", although a very good album, turned into another play it safe record with 2 covers released as singles. How original.The waiting media world immediately dismissed Celine when it truth they were just praying for her to take risks musicaly and they would've happily lapped it up and played it everywhere.

 

Whilst "My Love" is an incredible song it really doesn't add anything new to Celine's repertoire or reputation at TV and radio.

I even think the wild card That's Just The Woman In Me would had made an interesting single... actually, it would show off a more cooler rockier soulful side of her without sounding like she was trying to hard and it all went to geeky, but simply classical.

ARE the music channels in UK like Box, Mtv. Fizz etc playing her songs? I have not noticed it on them yet. does anyone know how we could request it to any of these music channels....???? anyone....

Sony uk confirmed that they, sent/gave the same uk sky music channels that showed/played the ''taking chances'' video, last year, the music video.... for ''my love'', a week or so ago....but its up to them whether they show it or not......

I have searched the forum frantically for instructions to UK fans which I thought I saw briefly yesterday.

I cannot find them!!

I have just downloaded the single from iTunes (Radio and Live version) but I want to know what else I can do? What actually helps sales?

Is it better for me to buy the songle in store or does it make little difference? What if I order it from hmv's website.

Obviously I will be ordering/buying the album too but I want to know what is the best way to improve figures. Admittedly I don't listen to the radio but I can't say I've heard or seen anything connected to this song at all! I did request it at BBC Radio 2.

 

Please, tell me what to do? I know I'll struggle to find a single in store but I will search high and low...

I did, and yes you're right. I cracked up at the "old American woman who thinks she's 21."

 

And ohhhhhh I love GTSW, and thought it was an amazing single. At least it had a great video. I started to be suspicious about Sony btw by the time "I'm Alive" did not make it on the charts in the US, but then, 2002 and 2003 are really obscure years for pop music. Thank God in Europe it was a super smash.

Whether you buy it digitally or physically, it will definitely count towards the final chart published on Sunday. If the website you're trying to order it from has enough stock to send it to you this week, then it will count. If you can go to a store and buy it, it will be great, Tony.

If they wanted to release a ballad, it should've been IGNL. The bill "feat. Ne-Yo" would've facilitated a decent measure of TV and radio support IMO.

I think the new album is, for the moment, unnecessary. I can't believe they let the TC album die so soon, with so many hits waiting on the wings. Just like Shaun said earlier, they couldn't play it safer by releasing two covers and not mining the songs with which she really was taking chances. Just like Tom said, I don't mind them releasing the physical singles, because I want them in my collection, but I'd rather see her getting some exposure.

i think people want to hear celine singing love songs..

 

if you look at taking chances album my love got the best reaction from the fans..

 

for me that's when celine is at her best. she will allways have the reputation she has now theirs no going back

 

don't get me wrong i love taking chances but there are maybe 2 r3 songs that are just average. i think the reson i go on

should have made it onto the album before some songs.,. look at falling into you album all songs could have been hits i think.

Well, I have now ordered the single from hmv and I have also pre-ordered the album.

 

I did notice on amazon that there are two versions of the album: Essential Collection and Ultimate Essential Collection. I can't believe they would do this again, but then maybe a 2-disc version would be too much Celine for some listeners who would ordinarily buy the album. Maybe there is a method in the exploitation... I mean, madness!

 

Anyway, whilst I would normally buy both versions, I think I will settle for the 2-disc version. I'm already pushing the boat out as I very rarely buy singles. But I do believe in My Love and I want to help it succeed. People need to hear this song. Just a shame a recorded song cannot capture the emotion and power of a live performance...!

 

ps: doesn anybody know which concert the live recording is from?

Someone really thought that My Love was going to reach Top40 in the UK? It was even hard for Taking Chances single to get there when Celine was there promoting and doing some performances (X Factor, ...) so it is imposible for My Love..

With all this itunes downloads counting so much for charts over the world the only way for Celine to have a hit in the future is doing something different or really good that capture young people interest, otherwise our Celine will NEVER have a hit again
