At first, after hearing run the world, i was kinda scared she was going in the wrong direction. However, I was wrong. The album is a masterpiece and hopefully, it will be nominated for many grammies because it truely shows her growth as an artist. There arent many commercial/radio-friendly songs as most of the songs are ballads or mid-tempo and it sure wont sell as much as her previous releases. But the album really showcases her vocal ablilities and the emotions she puts in those songs. I also like it that she took a different direction and didnt become a sellout by releasing club bangers or songs talking about dancing at a party (we have enough of that with Gaga, Kesha, Katy, Rihanna and Britney). There is also no auto tune in her songs. She experimented a lot of different sounds with this album and I feel like this is her "Velvet Rope" or "Butterfly" album (less commercial but more artistic and meaningful). I do have mixed emotions about her occasionally only because people put her on such a high pedestal (no doubt she is one heck of an entertainer compared to people on top 40) but sometimes her hype is just so overwhelming. I think she's incredible. But so many people call her legend and stuff like that and to be honest, her discography is very underwhelming. She doesn't really have that many memorable songs that would be played in 20 years from now. The only real memorable songs she has would probably be Crazy In Love, Irreplaceable and Single Ladies. Maybe along with Halo and Listen. She just really could use some better material. The way she's handling things right now as far as her new album goes is frustrating as well. As far as personality, she could loosen up a bit. I still really, really like her though.That was a really long rant sorry haha. Quote
