Is Celine a Christian?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I love 'Taking Chances' but I've only just realized what 'New Dawn' is about. I was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not Celine is a CHRISTian? I've never really pondered on the words but I notice that she makes a lot of references to JESUS. Is she open about her faith?

Also, I have been SO busy promoting my CD to record labels so I apologize hugely for not replying to some of my posts and messages. Of course you're probably all sitting there thinking 'thank goodness, that guy rambles on' - lol.

Keep smiling always,

Stu :)

She is very serious about her beliefs. She is Catholic, and although she doesn't "practice" it, she carries it with her from day to day. She has spoke about it, as well as sang about it. :)

Yeah everyone else has basically summed it up well and I found the fact that CHRIST was capitalized kinda funny.

Referencing Jesus does not make one a Christian.

"New Dawn" is not about religion nor is it about Christianity. It's a song about feminism.

Notice instead of saying "I am a woman," the phrase says "I am Woman."

It almost reminds me of phrases in the Bible - Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I am God." :)

However, Celine is a Catholic. She married in a Catholic ceremony, and she had a Catholic baptism for her son. I don't know whether she's devout or not - that's for her to know and be. I'd rather not guess, since this is a personal thing.

Like most Catholics these days ;)

Although i'm also a Catholic you won't find me in or near a church unless on holidays...

Well first of all she didn't wrote the song. Second if she choose to sing it, it was because she does believe in God whether she is christian or catholic. The song is about faith, hope and belief not about religion...

I think Love, summed it up pretty well

Hi everyone

I have heard Celine reply to this question in an interview. She did state that she is a Christian. I don't remember any mention of a church.

I've been wondering about this for a while, but i figured that if she was a christian then she wouldnt be practising her faith, or be open about it - its a very personal thing!

Im a practising christian and although im officially church of england/anglican, i hate denominations and the term "religion" - it sounds like an institution which puts so many people off and just causes more harm than good in the church which is already in a pretty desparate state. there should be unity within the people of Christ!!

oh well, sorry bout that little rant!! :blushing1:

good question stu!

How can you be a Christian and not be practicing? If you're not practicing it, then you're not it. That's like saying "I'm a vegetarian but I'm not practicing. I eat meat".

See it this way: Celine is Canadian and doesn't live in Canada!

I believe the song is more about feminism than religon, but still it's interesting to know. That was a good question to ask. I think that religon means different things for different people so there is no telling what the people who wrote it intended for the message to be. It's different for everyone.

i started a topic a while back about why celine never thanked God on any of her albums' Thank You's, and i must admit i still don't get it why she don't thank Him on any of her albums.

EDIT: and yes i do believe she's a non-practicing Catholic. she once showed her Christianity through her music via These are Special Times and her first Xmas album.

Bear in mind that religion is quite different from nationality.

Yeah you can't change where you are from but you can easily change your religion or eating habits.

I am also a Christian, but a Protestant (Like most people in Northern Europe).

I don't practise it either, though, but like the thought about a greater good! ^_^
