What car is everyone driving?

OMG...I went to test drive the Honda Civics today, and I LOVE IT!!! I wish I had the money to drive it off the lot today :( Oh well...soon, very soon...

Be patient Kim. You'll be able to get one some day soon. I took out a six year loan on my car and I'm not even half way through it! Hopefully you will be able to put more money down on your car than I did so you won't have such a long payment time!

Oh I know...the dealer was like "So why are you wanting to wait until January?" and I said "Because I have other things I have to take care of first before I can take on a car payment" and he said he understood, so it was all good, he wasn't real pushy. But my friend was with me who bought her brand new Accord from him, so she knew he was good before we even went. He's willing to give me a good deal though when I decide to get one. He was willing to come down $3,500 off of the sticker price. ^_^

Well it's good if he said that. I really still don't trust most car salesman. They usually are the way people think they are. They usually want you to buy NOW. They don't want you t to walk of the lot until they sell you a car. Be patient. There are plenty of cars available.

Yeah, he isn't bad...

I don't care what they say anyway, I know where I stand financially so there isn't anything someone could say that would make me think "Oh yeah, I can all of a sudden afford that today"

Yeah when I started looking for a car I really could not buy one at that time. So I'd go to different dealers and I would be honest and say: "I'm just looking. I'm not buying for a few months but I will consider coming back here when I want to buy." Well the one good thing that would happen is they would almost always LOWER the price for me. But the thing is, I really could not buy at that time anyways.

What is actually a normal reduction in the US when you buy a car?

When I ordered my car I got a total reduction of +/- 4.500 EUR (+/- 6.800 USD) on a total listprice of +/- 25.000 EUR (37.500 USD) (price including tax). (Fleet conditions).

I'm thinking about buying a Ford Mustang in the USA within the next few years and ship it to Belgium but I like to know how much I can get of the price B) (It's actually a bad habbit of me to get always the best price possible )

You want it brand new or do you mind a few miles?

Because American cars drop in resale value like burning money :sofunny: :P

Just driving a brand new American car from its dealership off the lot, you've already lost a couple thousand dollars. :)

It all depends. At this point I don't have a garage where I can store a car (my own car is sleeping outside on the streets). When I will buy a Mustang I must be certain that I have somewhere a garage to store the car.

When I'm going to buy one (hopefully within the next few years) I want one exactly how I want it to be, with the right options, the right colors, etc...

I do prefer the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (the Cobra 500KR is way to expensive, even with the cheap Dollar). So it will be probably a brand new one ordered just like I wish.

Another reason why I prefer a brand new one is for the warranty of the vehicle.

To bad you can't build a GT500 on the internet and get a quotation for it. :( I just love the GT500 but on the other hand I would like an automatic transmission and it seems that the GT500 has only a manual 6 speed available...

But then again, I have plenty of time to think about it

I don't have a car yet seeing as I'm 16 and am taking my permit test Friday (wish me luck) Hey i said i liked to be driven but anyways. My dad has a Toyota Tacoma and my mom a Dodge Grand Caravan. I love the 04 Ford Focus and want to have one myself hopefully. I'm in love with that car. I want a silver one btw.

You never know...

Maybe in a few years, there will be a "cheap Euro" instead of a "cheap Dollar." :sofunny:

Indeed, you never know...

The EUR will always be stronger then the USD, no doubt about that, even American economics confirm that.

So it will be always cheaper for us to visit the US or even buy thing there.

Although near al economics see the USD drop further away in the future (it has actually gone up recently) I doubt that this will happen. I think that the value of the USD will rise again towards the end of this year...

I hope that the USD gains again some value because it can look good for us, Europeans, that the USD has a low value (ideal for travel) but the opposite is true. Due the low value of the USD we also get our share of the recession in the US. There is actually fewer export towards the US due the value of the dollar (or actually the value of the EUR).

But back to cars...

I had a little accident this weekend. I drove in a large hole in the road which had nog signalisation. My steer is shaking like hell, my car turns a bit to the right. I went to file a complaint at the police department for my insurance together with the offer of my dealer. 2x 17" alloy wheels, 2 very expensive high performance tires and the work... About 1.500 USD of damage... Today I received an agreement of the insurance to fix my car. Everything is ordered so it can be fixed next week.

I hate holes in the road B)

I have a Saab also Jay, I love everything except for the fact that parts are so expensive and often hard to come by. Mine needs a new cd player and I can't just get a regular one from an audio shop because it doesn't fit the compartment, the Saab one is $1495 :o

This is my new car, i bought it 3 months a go.

2008 ML550

5.5liter

382HP

391 pounds feet of torque

7 Speed gear box.

Most of my friends make fun of me, telling me i drive a soccer mom SUV but i like it soo much that it doesn't bother me a bit, it's one of the fastest SUV's on the road and i get to leave my friends X5 4.8 in the dust everytime we race. :giggle: The only thing that sucks about this car is that i get between 9city to 19MPG on highway but oh well nothing i can do about that. Also Im planning to take it offroading soon.

I love cars , its something i really enjoy talking about, thats why i work with cars daily!!!

Very nice Saab mate, I have always loved Saab. Certainly the 9-3 and the 9-5. ;)

@ Cambroneroj

Very nice SUV! The "new" ML is indeed a very decent car. I had one for a week from Mercedes to test it and I loved it very much. It was a 320CDI with 211HP from a 3 liter V6 diesel engine. The 7 speed automatic transmission is one of the best available in the automotive industrie. It's just very smooth and reacts rather quick.

However... The ML has VERY limited off road capacities... I don't know what you think about "off road" but when you are really taking it offroad (mud, water, loose sand, rocks, etc...) you can easily get troubles. The ML is not made for driving offroad but it can take some minor offroad work. However if you really want to go offroad you'll have to take the Mercedes G type (not the GL), this is one of the best offroad jeeps you can find. The Rangrover, Landrover Disco3, Landrover Defender, Toyota Landcruiser, Jeep Grand Cherokee, etc... are reall offroaders while the ML, X5, etc... are more SUV's to use on paved streets ;)

During some really though testdriving with Mercedes 2 ML's were lost while driving trough a sand track designed for a Mercedes offroad event with heavy trucks and SUV's. Both chassis' of the ML were ruined during the tests... So never take an ML for a serious offroad trip, you can have some serious damage to it ;)

My car got a little vitamine cure during the past day.

New specs are now (yet to be confirmed after a testrun on the powerbench next week)

Make: Ford

Type: Focus II

Version: Sport

Engine: 1.8L turbo charged diesel engine

From 115HP to 143HP

From 300Nm torque to 350Nm torque

Maximum speed has also increased a bit but not that much, only about 10km/h more.

It's running more smoother then previous, I like it very much :D

Thanks ,yeah MLs cannot be compared to Jeeps or Rovers but they do a great job , as my friend would say , Ur vehicle is a hardwood floor SUV not for dirt. I wouldn't take it to xtreme offroading for sure. I work for mercedes benz and i know the veh limitations ,but you will be surprise what it can do with the airmatic suspension and offroad tires i bought. Im going with a group that do jeep offroading trips so if i get in trouble ill have a lot of volunteers to get me out of trouble. :thumbsup2:
