Are you a lyrics person or a melodic one?

I listen to the lyrics first and then after I know the song, I get into the melody. For French, I don't understand it but I'm trying to teach myself right now through her songs, but I listen the the melody and then the lyrics. I guess it just depends on what you like.

This is a real toughie for me.

of course you are going to be drawn to the melody of a song as its what you hear first, before the singer even opens their mouth.BUT what makes me love a song most of the time is the singers voice.I have to love the lyrics and how the singer sings it to give a song more than one playing. :D

CHOCOLATE is the answer....I don't give a damn what the question was!

I think for me its the melody and then the lyrics. With celine i know i love a song when she hits a certain note and it gives me goosebumps. She is the greatest ever!!

I'm melodic, too. It has something to do with brain hemisphericity. As far as I remember, people whose left hemisphere is dominant pay attention to melody while right hemisphericity correlates with lyrics. Maybe the other way around, I'm not sure. :) Anyway, whether I like a song depends very much on the melody. However, it happened several times that after I had studied the lyrics, I started to like the given song even more.

So people that are into the lyrics are smarter? :lmao: I'm just kidding...

I've heard that too... something with one side being the creative one and the other the analytical or something. I forgot which is which.

It's just that for me listening to a song is impossible without listening to the lyrics... It doesn't have to be meaningfull or anything. I mean: 'When the wrong one loves you right' has absolutely nothing useful to say but I love it!

I just need to know what they're saying and it drives me up the wall when there's always the one word you don't understand...

To me, it has to be BOTH melody and lyrics hence my overwhelming preference for her French releases.

For me music works. If i like the melody i like the lyrics too,not matter if the lyics don't touch me....I love the melody of each song

I'd say that both melody and lyrics are important to me, but for different reasons. To quote from the movie "Music & Lyrics":

"A melody is like seeing someone for the first time. The physical attraction...But then, as you get to know the person, that's the lyrics. Their story. Who they are underneath. It's the combination of the two that makes it magical."

That pretty much sums it up for me. The melody is what initially sparks interest in a song for me, but then, as I get to know the songs better, I grow really attached to the lyrics. I used to not care much for "A New Day Has Come," but as I got to know the lyrics, I grew to love it.

I'm sure that i'm a melody ... and if i like the melody, i will carefuly listen to lyrics ... and it's magical when both are goods !

I wouldn't listen to certain songs if they were not recorded by Celine.

when i'm listening to Alanis Morissette and Amy Winehouse, i can't help myself reading their cd booklet and read the lyrics of their songs. their songs are so personal and it's like reading a poem. they're such a great writter.

melody all the way! what i hear is so much more important than what is said (to me)...

Initially it's the melody of a song that draws me to it, but after 5 or 6 listens, the lyrics hit me too. So I guess it's about 70% / 30% for me! :)

For me the melody is the most important thing in a song

A song with a bad melody cannot be saved by good lyrics IMO.

However, a song with bad lyrics can be saved by a good melody IMO.

Although there's still a bunch of songs in which the lyrics really touch me

I enjoy both and they should compliment each other.

I do tend to lean more towards lyrics, that's what makes me LOVE a song. Some of the songs from Celine I adore because of the lyrics are Immortality, Water From The Moon, To Love You More, Love Is On The Way, Your Light, Fade Away, & I Got Nothin Left to name several.

melodic. I read lyrics only when I bother to.

I'm definitely a melodic person. the first thing i hear in a song is the music not the lyrics and this is what make me love or dislike a song. I like simple lyrics, i don't want to analyze the text to understand what it means.

Based on these quotes, I am definitely a melodic person. I usually listen to the tune and then if it makes me want to go on with the music, I would continue to listen to it.

However, there are some songs which I think lyrics do play a great part, The Bangles - Manic Monday, Lonestar - TGIF -> reminds me of working on Mon-Fri. As for Celine's songs, most of them contain a Love theme and usually I don't bother reading the lyrics.

So suddenly, it's clear to me

Things change

Our future lies in here and now

We live it through somehow

Now the greatest reward

Is the love that I can give

I'm here for you now

For as long as I live

You made me who I am

It's definately first the melody and the sound of her voice...and then later it's time to discover the lyrics

I always wonder about this coz Celine is always called schmultzy etc because of her 'sappy' and 'cheesy' lyrics etc. But im awful for not ACTUALLY listening to lyrics at all! haha i couldnt tell you what half celines songs even say in them haha (obviously they have alove theme) but i coudlnt tell you what they actually say in them. I love the melodies and thats all I care about! haha Is that weird? Im like it with all songs though. I never listen to a song and am like...."this is my song....its about me!" - i just wanna sing along. :D

AHhahah that's true!

If I like a Céline's song, it's because of its melody... The lyrics are not so important for me :P :P

Judging by my inability to identify a large number of lyrics that people have been posting in other threads, like guess the song or memorable lines, I am clealry not a lyrics person!

But I kind of knew that already...

It's all about Celine's vocal performance and the melody for me... A song could move me even if I had no idea what it was about! Lyrics are definitley secondary for me.

And while I don't always recognise lyrics immediatley, I am able to identify a song from the first fraction of a second of the opening phrase. As some spiritual person said to me once, I listen more to how people say things rather than what they actually say. Maybe there's a connection...

AMO CÉLINE CADA VEZ MAIS!!!

i think i would be both

the lyrics have to be meaningful, yet the music has to go with those lyrics

Well, It's a good question :P I think I go for melofy first... I remember I watched Live In Memphis and then I listened to Pour Que M'aime Encore - I didn't understand a thung but the melody was very catchy and I fell in love with it at once!! I tried to figure out what the song title was and after 5 days !

I also listened to Call The Man on that VHS :P I was listening to it all the time !!
