If not, I doubt you will notice any difference. So, there is really a difference, an improvement in the sound? I wanted to get this edition, but I've been hesitating since then because I only read there wasn't a big difference I wonder if this Blue Spec technology is something similar to the japanese SHM-CD's that are being released currently? But I don't know if I'll notice any difference cos, like I said, when I compared the tracks in Audacity on my computer to take a look at the sound levels, the peaks in the track were completely identical! I thought I would see some differences between the two versions... Quote
Bellamy Posted January 25, 2010 at 03:42 AM Posted January 25, 2010 at 03:42 AM Blu-Spec CD is not remastered I think. Instead of a traditional infra-red laser, a blue laser is used for recording the pits on the CD master that is needed for disc replication. The blue laser creates more precise pits, causing less distortion in the optical read-out process. It's similar to DSD-CD (Sony), K2 High Definition (JVC), XRCD (JVC), HDCD (Pacific Microsonics/Microsoft), SHM-CD. Many people won't notice any difference between those formats. But some reviews told Blu-Spec CD improvement is more noticeable. Quote Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link Click here. Thank you!
MTJ Posted January 25, 2010 at 04:08 AM Posted January 25, 2010 at 04:08 AM whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa First, what's the difference between Brahm's Lullaby between Miracle and TATST? They sound a little different... but I can't notice any extra humming. Also, Tim, I've never heard of a Live in Memphis CD before! Is it like, the recording from the DVD? I never knew it existed. Bellamy Posted January 25, 2010 at 04:37 AM Posted January 25, 2010 at 04:37 AM That's VCD, not CD. It should be close to 128kbps mp3 quality. Quote Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link Click here. Thank you!
MTJ Posted January 25, 2010 at 06:29 AM Posted January 25, 2010 at 06:29 AM But it's mp3, not video, right? Are the songs in the Multimedia section, or is it not allowed? Quote

The humming at the start can be heard on the For Our Children Too album only. There is no humming on TAST or Miracle. It's only a few short bars, but works well and I can't think why they dropped it for the later releases. Nice additions Tim, Quote http://www.powerofthemusic.com/other/FORUMSIG1.png

Timster Posted January 27, 2010 at 06:26 PM Posted January 27, 2010 at 06:26 PM My 4 Japanese 3" singles arrived today! I didn't realise how thin the packaging is! They are beautiful but very fragile. I must make sure I look around for mint condition ones! http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk17/ShuttleDiscovery/IMG_2231.jpg I have a question about them though. On the back there are usually 2 dates in a box (the same applies for normal Japanese singles). They seem to have an X and a Y next to them, and the date next to the Y is always in brackets. I assume theis is the release date. The X and Y dates are normally the same, but on TPOTD single (below) they are different. Why are there 2 different dates? There is also another date below the box on each single which is exactly 2 years after the Y date. Is this the deletion date of the single? I've highlighted the bits I mean on this photo:http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk17/ShuttleDiscovery/japansingle_date.jpg Quote

The X date (in parentheses) is the date the album was originally released in Japan. The top price is with tax. The bottom price is without tax. Even though there is always a flat 5% tax it is a legal requirement to show both prices. The date shown here is (98.8.20) is the date until which a seller must sell at the price listed on the OBI. After this date it can be sold at any price (higher or lower). By the way, nice items! Quote

This means Yogaku and signifies that the rights for this release exist with a non-Japanese company. As an aside, the term Yogaku generally means Western Music whereas Hogaku means Japanese music (although strictly speaking Hogaku refers to traditional music of the pre-Meiji period of 19th-century). The relevance of this is that Western Music is not allowed to be rented to the Japanese public for one year after this date (Hogaku music may be rented 3 weeks after this date). In Japan, there is a large CD rental industry so a lot of people will rent CDs and albums rather than purchase them. It's not entirely clear why this one year limit for Western Music exists but it may have been instigated in the hope that more fans will buy the CD rather than rent. Quote
