Love, Posted July 1, 2008 at 12:20 PM Posted July 1, 2008 at 12:20 PM (edited) but each person who attends the concert matters, and they deserve to get their money's worth. Each person estimates this "get my money worth" in a different way. For some is just about listening Celine, for others is the stage or the crowd in the stadium etc. but i am afraid that some times we lose the essence of this tour and of this woman and performer called Celine Dion. Ok, i may be too optimistic because it was the first time i saw Celine in my life (and i am so happy that i don't feel disappointed in any way) but for ex. when i paid for my ticket the stage (round or not), the show etc were the last things i had in mind. It's funny because I think one of my friends mentioned that she would pay to see Celine even if Celine was up there in a chair knitting :mdr: Yes, each person does estimate a "money's worth" differently, but there are things that are so direct and obvious. Anyway, I'm sure Celine would have had more fun if she stood on lighted floors  Edited July 1, 2008 at 12:21 PM by Love, Quote

I meant "direct" and "obvious" as things that are the DUHHHHHHHH's - like what Martin expressed as "tacky" and "cheap-looking' which were OBVIOUSLY "tacky" and "cheap-looking" and the overpriced STANDARD tickets that led to a concert under Superstar Standards. MartinMunich Posted July 1, 2008 at 12:51 PM Author Posted July 1, 2008 at 12:51 PM I want to be politically correct and say that there were short-comings from Celine's Munich concert. I know that many of us optimists feel that the Tour itself is amazing (which it is), but each concert experience matters. There should be an equality in production value, staging, performance value, etc. that is cohesive from the very first concert to the very last concert. For the production of a concert for THE WORLD'S BEST SELLING FEMALE ARTIST - it was laughable to see three medium-sized LED screens and canvas stage wrapping. LOL It looked like a bigger version of the stage you would see at county fairs and municipal festivals. This is exactelly what I mean ( and thanks for the relaxed opinion - some people try to virtually kill me via PMs ) If all the cash is spend on an indoor stage - why doing outdoor concerts? We have a beautifull indoor venue which would have been sold out instead of a 20% full stadium. If they decide on doing outdoor concerts nonetheless with clearly no effort at all, then don´t charge 280 USD for the tickets. So far, as many concerts have been outdoors as indoors (roughly) - with two completely different levels of qualitiy, productionwise. Also, you have to consider that here in this forum only die-hard-fans are meeting - the majority would love it if Celine would burb on stage. Just imagine how people feel who come to see a good show from the BEST SELLING FEMALE ARTIST? Do you think they would come and see her again? Probably not. Besides the whole "production" (which is not really existing in my opinion for the outdoor concerts) I also think that some songs are just overperformend by her - Power of love, IACBTM and so on - in the same old version over and over again, partly even playback. Not really fancy from an artistic point of view. More time would have been needed, more passion for the project "world tour" ... Quote
nano Posted July 1, 2008 at 12:58 PM Posted July 1, 2008 at 12:58 PM (edited) They put all the money and effort on the round stage! The end stages are rental and that's why they look so cheap...I agree that they could've done better, especially with Céline's arrival on stage. It was weird seeing her walking back and forward before the "magical moment" an indoor concert with the round stage is simply amazing, the lightning works perfectly because it's dark, the sound is great and everything looks so cool. Céline, the band and the dancers are close to the audience..and you can really feel their energy. Céline looks and sounds great, I wish she would be more spontaneous, though. And what about the new arrangements, Céline promised us...so far we've only heard "I'm Alive" remix (+MHWGO & IDAN) People focus on different things, some want to see a perfect production, some are happy to just see Céline...like Sopha said above "each concert experience matters" !! I always thought that maybe the pictures taken were just not doing the whole thing any justice but now that I have seen that myself - unbelievable. Don´t think Shanghai was the worst - heared plenty of complains from Dublin as well. Very unfortunate. Like mentioned before - they are making cash like mad by doing this. But at the same time Celine is disappointing her audience. Chula Posted July 1, 2008 at 01:49 PM Posted July 1, 2008 at 01:49 PM The fact that they have to use an end (and stripped down) stage at several venues is all because of logistics. corr_azy Posted July 1, 2008 at 01:58 PM Posted July 1, 2008 at 01:58 PM For me, it wasn't really about the stage. At times, it seems that Celine couldn't even be bothered to be performing, and it has disappointed many fans. For example, I think many fans who went to the show in Shanghai ended up feeling angry with the show that Celine put up. I think another issue would be how her speeches were the same for all the shows, and Celine somehow failed to click with the audience she was with at any moment. It seemed almost like a routine for Celine, and I definitely agree with how it takes the soul out of the concert. The fact that she has been using playback for quite a few of the songs has also bummed many fans out. The ticket prices are sky-high, and I think we deserve to at least have a show that is live, even if the arrangements of the songs remain intact. I'm sure many die-hard fans would go on to say how she is doing so many shows and how she needs to preserve her voice and all that. But is that really an excuse? I think it would be perfectly fine if she did less shows and was less ambitious as to tour the world in one year. Wouldn't it be better than playing to half-empty stadiums? Quote

I don't believe the technology and stadiums' structures of all these 4 countries are as not as advanced as enough. It doesn't have anything to do with a country being developped or not, it has to do [once again] with logistics. All the shows which had an end stage, took place in either a stadium or outside Europe/North America. Like I said earlier in another thread, I expected them to use supporting struts (for the lighting/screens) like they did for the LTAL tour and for the round stage in Japan. Apparently, it didn't work out and they opted not to use them....thus it wasn't possible to place a round stage in a roofless venue. Yes I agree they could've chosen the venues more properly when the tour was planned, but they probably only saw $$$$. Hopefully they've learned their lesson this time. First of all: the show was built around the round stage, this is what the tour is based on. Some venues can't accomodate this stage, and to still meet the fans there and do a show for them, they rent a stage. You would have preferred Celine to skip your town and pass you right on by just because she couldn't give the 100% PERFECT (the round stage shows aren't even perfect) show? Yes, I'm an optimist, Yes, I'm a huge fan and would in fact love to see Celine on a stool on an otherwise empty stage, having her just talk,Yes, I can also be critical of Celine and I have no problem with anyone critisizing her, BUT: Let's give her a break: she's not going to be able to please everyone. She came to your town to sing for you. How awesome is that? Even if she couldn't perform on her round stage, she still came to your tiny stadium so you could see her! It not being sold out? I'll say this: Sony, promotion, sky-high ticket prices (which Celine probably does not think of herself), etc. Dressing in a tent? Would you rather have Celine demand a real dressing room and thus not come to the stadiums where there is otherwise no space to change? You know where Celine changed during her Vegas show? A TENT! Ridiculous right? But at the same time Celine is disappointing her audience. Just look how many critical voices you even have on fan forum where it is more common to say things like "oh my god, it was the best i have seen" and so on.... Yes, this is a fan forum and yes, most people here would be happy with Celine burping on stage (LMAO - Love), this is also a place where expectations are very high and people can be very critical of the smallest things. I went to Paris, had the chance to see a great show with the proper stage. Then I went to Frankfurt, and for the same (more actually) money I got the country fair stage. We bought the tickets (ok I will only speak for myself) such a long time ago, I couldn't imagine back then that she would've changed things from one show to the other. Not everyone can afford (not with these prices anyway) multiple show, it's not fair to change things up. And of course it's her voice that matters, all I'm saying is that a tour is a give & take situation, or should be. I'll say this: Sony, promotion, sky-high ticket prices (which Celine probably does not think of herself), etc. First of all - the Olypmic Stadium is neither "my" stadium nor is it tiny - it hosts 65,000 people. And she did not come to my town to sing for me (though it is a very romantic thought), she charges a fortune and gets payed the hell a lot of money for this tour. You make it seem like this tour is some religious event - in the end, it is about business. They charge a lot, and I expect to get a decent show in return. As easy as that. People payed outragous prices for a show and what they got was a rushed through, half playback concert without any concept on the by far cheapest stage I have ever seen. I wouldn´t care that much if the stage is simple - but it was so obvious that nobody gave a s*** about what the fans get to see outdoors. A few blinking lamps. Construction workers on the sides of the stage. Everything was visible. Cables, boxes, her walking on stage before everything starts to then "appear" from the back of the stage to have her big entrance after the video ended to start things off with a playback song. But I know - I have to fall on my knees and be thankfull for everything. Sorry, I forgot.... Quote

I didn't say that. I didn't even say I disagreed with your main point, you're perfectly allowed to *CENSORED* about Celine's end stage (although I do hope you paid attention to Celine during the show, no matter how distracting the tent and everything was) All I'm saying is that some of your arguments don't take into account the fact that we're talking about a person here, not a robot who can do everything in the same enthousiastic way every single night. Yes, she get paid millions and millions, but she's human and things are expressed differently every night. And let's not start here by saying that she doesn't do her utmost best to please all her fans everywhere she comes. She might not lie down on the stage in every place she performs, but if there's one thing I know for sure, it's that she tries her best every night. And not because she gets paid millions. Because she CARES. Now I will leave you all to your discussion, because you all have the right to discuss the things you don't like about this tour. Make it a fair discussion though, for all of those involved. Yes, she's famous; yes, people expect lots of her and yes, she gets paid millions. But face the facts: not everything is going to be perfect. and that's the way it is. Quote

dirrtydavid Posted July 3, 2008 at 01:53 AM Posted July 3, 2008 at 01:53 AM Based on seeing her at Croke Park Dublin, which incidentally isn't my town, city or country, simply the easiest for me to get to, i would much rather have seen Celine perform in a smaller venue, if needbe over several nights, including one in Northern Ireland. Celine, i cannot fault, lipped or not, i couldn't tell, given that i was stuck in the tiered seating despite paying best part of €250 for premium fanclub seating (add in the fact that on the teamceline forums, a user there had 10th row main floor with tickets not bought through the fanclub, go figure...) I would not have had a problem with the stage had it not been for the cost of the tickets. The tickets were too expensive considering the stage was rented and there was no special effects or anything to make the event memorable, just Celine. I couldn't even understand why there wasn't even a catwalk into the crowds, or some fireworks. Overall it was a disappointing first time seeing Celine, marred by the fact i felt ripped off. Quote

I am sorry for everyone in Germany and Dublin who did not get the full experience and I agree you deserved a big show with a great stage.Money should not be any issue for Celine because she gets enough to spend more for an amazing outdoor stage too!If you like Madonna or not, I have the Confessions Tour dvd and the big stage was amaaazing with all those special effects. Tina Turner during the 1999 concert had a nice big sidestage too! Robbie Williams on the Knebworth live dvd had a really amazing stage too! So there are plenty artists that can deliver a full show even with a sidestage! If we got a sidestage in Amsterdam I would have expect to get something like that but not a marketstage ( bigger format lol) with a few lights an some screens..no atmosphere at all.. I would also love that she would talk a little more with the audience. And not the same speech all over again in every country!...is that allright Amsterdam !.... and asspecially to be back in... this is a special tour because my mother who is 81 years old.....Linda perry offered me a ... This Taking Chances Show full of glitter/vegas and very nice stage ( as for the indoor stage) but misses some more spontaneous Celine. It is a high driven show in perfection and it goes song after song, same speech between the songs and in a rush to the next song.No encore.. In Paris on the dvd in 1999 you could see here get enormous and long applauses and they all got flowers and bowed ( the whole celine-band and celine) and now celine playbacks my heart will go on,, she thanks the audience and the band very fast, she goes down, and the concert is over. We kept screaming we want more.. but she was already going away through the crowd who screamed for more..Don't get ,me wrong; the show was amazing, she sang amazing but it was a bit fast. could have been more, with a better setlist though..and as I said, a more spontaneous Celine. And there is proof she can; in Vienna she talked a bit more, and that was nice to hear! This tour is not enthralling fans as much as the LTAL tour. Quote
