wow and there i was thinking that the stages in SA were dull. and all celine sang on was a stage. no spectacular steel thingies. wouldn't it have been nice to have those steel thingie eh? i definitely would have gotten more for my money staring at the steel constructed thingies.

well hello! i didn't even notice the stage when celine hit the notes i was wanting her to belt out. a plain boring stage with a woman in the middle hitting high notes. i guess i should have taken more notice of the stage and complained about it.

:ermm: you can't please everyone i suppose.

it was just so clear that people get affended by what i write - but:

can´t somebody be a fan AND also be critizising something? i don´t get the point.

simply saying: "then don´t go to the show" is not really the smartest comment.

just look at the bon jovi - croke - park- pictures on page one.

this is what i mean by delivering good qualitiy to their fans who pay a fortune to see their stars.

and always just saying "i come for her voice" - of course, everybody loves her voice (except for the parts she is miming to old playbacks), i love her as a person, but she (her team, management, whoever) should give the fans a show that suits the "star" celine.

why dress changes, why light show, if it is all about the voice?

i am exclusivlely complaining about the outdoor shows (indoors it is great).

i stick with my opinion.

every stupid rock festival has a more sophisticated stage.

terrible, cheap, tasteless, a slap in the face of fans.

We have to ask Rene. No one HERE can know why the round stage was not used.

well i agree that people come to hear celine's voice however a much better stage could be used to. Even much less famous singers have a better stage

Wow! I think you'd have a better view of the planets aligning than to see Celine from those seats!

But seriously, there's always a compromise that has to be made when doing these big tours with any big act or group. They obviously want as many people to be able to go to the concert(s) in each city which usually means a big venue which means a lot of the audience will be far away. Of course now most of these shows have the big screens to help out with the viewing, but you still want to be able to see the artist in person, not just on a tv screen.

I was in premium seating, and i had to resort to the big screens to get a decent view....

NOBODY NEEDS TO CALM DOWN...wishing Celine ill reviews or giving negative feedback on this forum should be probhitibed SIMPLE AS THAT...afterall repeated info or info saying that a show is being repeated is automatically thrown out...seeing this still on made me ashamed of someone calling themselves a fan then saying something like this not to mention the fact that the moderators left it up for casual visitors and those just taking a look to see...IF YOU DON'T LIKE CELINE DON'T GO SEE HER SHOW OR WASTE YOUR TIME GIVING THOSE WHO DO YOUR OPINION...SIMPLE AS THAT....and that is my opinion...Why do people waste their time and energy going to such lengths to tell someone they hate them...I just can't comprehend this sorry...

And then when you've implemented the whole "speak no evil about celine" rule, you can set about changing the name of the forums to "Iraq", and having people executed for crimes against celine....

We have to ask Rene. No one HERE can know why the round stage was not used.

Clear?

I think as someone said it would probably damage the pitch, but i don't think the problem was the type of stage, more the quality. It was just an end stage with a few screens. A catwalk or a few fireworks wouldn't have gone amiss...

I have been looking forward to that concert for so long and seeing what we get is just such a major dissapointment.

well , i think i made my point clear.

if it would all be about the voice, then why make up, why costume changes, dancers or hiring a show producer?

of course a tour is about delivering a good qualitiy show that suits an international superstar like celine.

and - in my opinion - the outdoor stage doesn´t deliver at all.

even less famous singers have more sophisticated stages. it should have been her big comeback to the road, her big show, announced with the words "spectacular effects and light show" - i am sorry, i don´t see anything like that at all.

not even different levels or a stairway or anything - just a flat steel construction with plastic sheets covering the sides. give me a break.

the did not even pay for an automatic camera system the films her for the screens - she has a camera man on STAGE following every step of her.... can it get any cheaper?

It probably is the stadium limitation. She sing at center stage in Amsterdam, out door, 65000 people. The end stage is just an alternation, so maybe that's why it sucks. I understand your point. I saw her concert in Shanghai which has the same stage too. I was very disappointed at that time. But not mainly because of the stage, but because she was very rushed in Shanghai, no interaction with audience at all.

Next time she's in the end stage in dublin, you shall find me in the surrounding streets listening for free, cuz she's taking the piss out of her fans charging them such amounts just to sing....

Compare the end stage with the in the round setup, and you'll see why i feel cheated.....I personally think it was a case of they couldn't be arsed flying out their own additions to the stage, i don't think they would "waste" money transporting stage from mainland europe to ireland for one show, because really who cares bout the irish....

it is not just the irish - she is doing the same here in germany during her outdoor concerts.

but i totally agree with what you say - personally i don´t mind seeing her on an end-stage - but the whole production for this so-called "endstage-solution" is so unbelievably cheap and lame, it is almost unbelievable.

having construction workers standing around (as you can see on the Croke park pics), see the cheap plastic covering... they did not even bother do design a stage, they just take what is locally available...

and all these arguments that it is all about the voice blablabla...it is not!

just look at the indoor production - this is all that is needed. it is not too much, but it supports the songs and it just makes it a special event.

this outdoor crap doesn´t.

and - it is exactelly what you say - they are charging a fortune and are not even bringing their own stage with them to all venues.

have a look at any female artist that toured lately (and they do have a voice as well, believe it or not) like kylie, madonna, pink, anastacia or a few years back cher or tina turner - these were amazing shows.

see and learn, team celine.

Posted
whether is her personally or her team - i don´t care. and of course she does in a way- it is her artistic responsibility.

i love her, i really do - i just would like to see the best of her. i know i know you all come because of her voice ...blabla....but this cheap steel constructions she plays on plus the fact that she is miming a good portion of the show - i really get disappointed in a way

Again; SHE is not charging anybody. SHE is not designing the stage setup. If she was to get personally involved in EVERYTHING -the stage design, the ticket price, AND all her music, she would be a business woman, not a singer. She has a record company that does all that, and for good reason. If you're that unhappy, write to them if you want to complain, do something constructive instead of writing about it on a Céline forum. That won't change a thing.

gosh they are so far far seats!!!

quote all that thing, couse im about to spend 200 british pounds and thats only for one ticket to see Celine in my country poland!!!!( to make it clear this is what some people earn in whole month!!!!!!!!TOTAL MADNES!!!! god this is totally taking the mickey!!!!!

i have just back from amsterdam and got two tickets for 186euros, amazing tickets first rows!!!!

i understand, that poland has not even been included in tour at the first place, but those prices are maddness!!!!! gosh plus flight tickets and hotel!!!

and I do not only want to hear Celine, I want to see her either!!!!!!!

plus that stage aragement is exactly the same as in dublin and shanghai!

I can understand what martin is saying, as i said in the dublin thread, for paying 250 euros for 2 premium seating tickets, i should not have had to rely on the screens to see in detail what was happening on stage. I couldn't see what her entrances, couldn't see the band. I see no reason why she couldn't have had a cat walk or 2 at either side.

One of the things i hate about coming on dedicated celebrity forums such as this one is the comments like "Kylie needs a mindblowing stage because she can't sing". Kylie can sing, she is a very capable singer. Die-hard fans of people like Celine, Mariah, Whitney etc immediately write off people like Kylie just because they can't hammer a song home. At least Kylie's mindblowing stage justifies her prices. I wouldn't again pay 250 euros just to hear Celine sing, it's her/her company blatantly taking the piss.

The stage Celine performed on in Dublin was the cheapest looking stage set I have ever seen her on. I was quite happy about the end stage at first 'cause I had very good seats and knew that with a round stage, I'd have not seen her for a percentage of the concert while she was on the other side. But with the end stage, she's always in view. However it was a black cavern with no thought put into design and no great lighting effects. 2 red heaters were far to visible sitting slap bang at the front of the stage (it got bloody cold so no doubt Celine needed warming up, but they got in the way) I adore Celine so much I was very concentrated on he anyway and so the stage design didn't interfere with my enjoyment of the night but it certainly didn't enhance it one little bit. A major concert like this should have moments when the look of the stage and the lighting effects perfectly enhance the performance, to give you that "goosebump" feeling, but, as has already been mentioned in the Ireland concert topic, Celine had to work pretty hard at the end of the concert to get the crowd cheering for more, and I think the stage had a lot to do with that lack of excitement.

I also think that a daylight concert is a bad move and don't think I'll be going to one in the future. Celine of course had the talent on the night and gave it her all, but the magic was slightly missing because of the other factors.

By the way there is far too much "shouting" going on in this topic. Stop using oversized fonts and bold type, if you have a valid point it doesn't need to be rammed down our throats.

John and Martin I agree with you and understand what you're saying. I wouldn't say it was a disaster but I feel like the venues with the outdoor or end stages didn't receive a truly spectacular show.

The voice undoubtedly is amazing and I'm sure is at the center of all ticket purchases, not stages or anything like that. We all come together to hear the voice of the best selling female artist of all time. Which brings me to my point, Celine is an A-list star regarded by many in the world in the top 10 if not number 1 best voice in the world.

These types of simple staging may be fine for new comers in the music industry just breaking the market, but not for the big time.

I too saw her on an end stage in Australia, she was amazing and her voice was what I came for but after seeing shows with the round/center stage I felt quite let-down and ripped off in a way. We all payed the same price for premium tickets, diamond section in Australia was $400AUD. If we are all paying the same kind of money for shows within the same tour, management should at least try and make the shows as equally visually appealing or else lower the price for those who do not get the "wow" factor with the in the round stage.

It just seems as though they suited the type of performer she is; established in the music industry and breath-taking and seeing her on a tacky stage just seems out of place.

I'm not annoyed with the performance that I saw and I'm sure nobody will really criticise for that, but when it comes to the stage (doesn't have to be exactly the same) they should just try and make it as special for each country as possible.

I was in Dublin and I have to say it was a little disappointing. I spent a lot of money, not only in my (and my boyfriend) tickets but also the flights from Spain, the accommodation...I know that we all fans go to hear Celine's voice, but there is people that are not truly fans, but they go to see a show, a spectacle, and the Dublin concert wasn't. I enjoy myself a lot, I lost my voice singing and I even broke my camera after All by myself  but if I would know that the stage was going to be like this I would choose a venue with the center stage. Celine is a superstar, is a Diva, I don't know how she can sing in a stage that is not even for an amateur..

Yesterday i decided not to be so negative about this stage anymore, but now that I hear all the latest comments I could start over again.

I just do not understand why one of the biggest stars in the world is willing to take such a blame and perform on this "thing". It does add absolutely nothing to the atmosphere, just a few lamps, this black plastic hole, construction workers, red (!) heaters and a camera man following her all the time.

Very very bad indeed.

And sad in a way.

Personally I think her management needs to fired for a lot of wrong decissions lately - but how can you fire your manager if you are married to him?

To him it is all about cash - i would not blame her for that, he has the lead in the business decisions (as you can see in the specials of the "new day"-dvd, and I do believe her if she says she feels free to do whatever she wants to now.

Even if the concerts are not at all sold out she still earns a fortune alone for this Munich concert.

Obviously this stage doesn´t cost her anything - zero. It is all local equipment. It would even pay off if she would perform in front of 500 people here in Munich, considering this tremendous ticket prices.

So, who cares about the atmosphere? Who cares about the fans? Who cares about delivering a good show?

Clearly nobody.

This is very sad, and I hate to say that, but I think she missed chances big time with this tour to present herself as an artist.

She was the ultimate drama queen, belting out ballads like nobody in the world could do, performing state-of-the-art-concerts - even 10 years ago her show was more modern and sophisticated.

As written in an article about her, the decision to do this Vegas-Show might have been extremely smart when it comes to money, but she kicked herself out of the recording market.

As seen with her latest album. A good one, but rushed together.

If you compare the recoring sessions for "Lets talk about love" and "Taking chances" you will notice that there are lightyears of difference - for LTAL she was travelling the world, recording with different producers, artists, she took time for it and it resulted in a number one record.

For TC she recorded all the songs within one week. Thats it.

And it feels similar with the tour. No break after Vegas, rushing this tour together, instead of somehow reinventing herself and come back to the road with new arrangements and a great show she uses old playbacks, playes the same old stuff over and over again (can anybody still hear "love can move mountains"?) and on top of that - she has the nerve to present herself on an outdoor stage that would suit a school band but definitely not a star her size.

Missed chances.

In Antwerpen I myslef would have preferred very much a frontal stage and I so don't give a damn about the central one! It's ridiculous to tell she needs dancers, fireworks or similar to deliver a show. This is a show about her voice or let's say those 13 tracks that she sings live and I dare to say it's really worth to go out and listen to the live versions of the songs. She could be standing with just one simple spotlight and do her thing and I'd be still mesmerized just as I was when she was gently caressing each word of Ziggy live or being so raw on Je Sais Pas. I will always remember that moment. To be honest all the dancers and laser lights and those absolutely shallow LCD animations and little-movies are nothing more than just a simple pointlessness. They're not and never will be the real Céline I came to watch.

Some ppl so need to chill. Disappointed? Well, watch Live A Paris again. PErhaps you'd think differently if the show you saw was in French but I strongly disagree that Céline needs any kind of help to emphasize her music. Just sing live and everything will be more than fine.

I sooooo much agree on this with you, Seba!!!! As I already said a few times: I just need Celine singing live in front of me and that's the fullfillness of all my expectations about the "show" of hers! I don't care about the stage, the dancers and so on... OK, it looks nice altogether but I could easily miss on all these "extras" and just have Celine, her presence and esp. her VOICE!!! :D

i would say that i would partly agree - back in the old days, when she was more a chanson-singer, it was fitting into the whole picture.

but she came back with an edgier, almost rock sound - "i drove all night" or "fade away" is not the kind of music you close your eyes to and just listen and dream...

and it is also not about whether she "needs" a show or not - fact is that she does not deliver a good outdoor show to the fans. besides the need of it.

a lot of people (myself included) just expect to get a greater concert experience from a worldwide star.

when the tour was announced they used words like "spectacular production and light show" - all i see is big black plastic bag with some lamps and three not-so-impressive-screens.

no, she does not need a big show - but combining her outstanding talents with a show that is appropriate would have been what a lot of people expected when they bought the ticket.

I think when you compare the stages it was a dissapointment... Westlife played after Celine in Croke Park on June 1st and they used the exact same stage but have huge screens and better lighting added to it!?, she's under the same label as westlife "SonyBMG" and their manager is a huge Celine fan so why the hell couldn't have just done the stage up for her too?

She could be standing with just one simple spotlight and do her thing and I'd be still mesmerized

If Celine was performing an intimate concert of simple, beautiful music, say a D'elles concert, then a single spotlight with Celine sitting on a stool in a darkened, small venue, would be a beautiful show. But this wasn't that show. This was an 80,000 seat arena, the Taking chances tour, outside and half performed in daylight. Therefore it demanded a spectacular stage. You can't rock out to RDMH with a single spotlight.

This tour is about showing the world that Celine Dion is a vibrant woman who can put on a show as exciting and energetic as anyone else out there, as well as showing her ballad led, more emotional side, which is the preconception most have going to her show. Who doesn't thrill to hear the crowd gushing about how they never thought Celine would put on such a thrilling, rocking live show? If the stage doesn't sparkle then the performer on it is fighting an uphill battle to wow the crowd even more. Celine did a great job, but the stage and lighting is an important factor, it's like having Celine sing her heart out accompanied by someone that's plink-plonking on a piano behind her. It doesn't match up.

I love Celine to bits and I'm not critiscing her, but the stage did not fit with the performance that was given by Celine. It was messy, dark, dull and uninspiring. The complete opposite of the woman standing on it.

Hi all, first time posting here. I have to agree the stage was not great, also the photographer who was snapping her every move was also a distraction. On the subject of tickets though, our tickets cost almost €300 for two premium seats and I was so disappointed. We were sitting up in the gods and the two small screens were not good enough to get a good view. Two friends of mine had tickets in A3 and were in a great spot, at a cheaper price. Tickets were still available for A3 the day before the concert and it was supposed to have sold out within three hours last November. I thought myself that although Celine's voice was as good as ever, she didn't have the same connection with her audience as she did when she performed last time here in Dublin in 1997. She involved the crowd much more that time, chatting at certain points in the show and really seemed to enjoying herself. This time it just seemed like work to her, no passion or friendly banter. The costume changes were too frequent, and worst of all was the closing of the show. She finished the last set and the stage went dark, all lights out and no-one knew if that was the end, so there was no crowd calling more , more, for the encore, because she didn't say she was finished. Don't get me wrong I am a big Celine fan, but I felt we were short changed this time. I think that most of the positive reviews were from first timers who had never witnessed a Celine concert before. In my opinion it didn't even come close to 1997 when she gave a mind blowing performance. Just my tuppence worth for anyone interested. I would like to hear from someone who was at that 1997 concert to hear what they thought.

I couldn´t agree more with what you wrote - I think especially those outdoor shows are fairly bad, carefully said. Not even comparable to the shows back in 97 or 99.

She had the chance to create something unique and big and bring herself back into the spotlight with a show that everybody talks about - I think that failed big time.

A lot of people here in the forum say she doesn´t need the big show thing - that might be true for the die-hard fans, but everybody else who would simply like to see a good show gets not much.

The show was announced to be massive, and clearly, I don´t see any show. Not even the light show is anything special. The screens are small. And having this photographer following every step of her is just too cruel. I couldn´t believe it when i saw the pictures - you can see construction workers, boxes, cables everywhere. Every Rock Festival has a better setup.

And for people like you who payed a fortune is really a slap in the face.

Celine was magic back in 97 and 99 - this show is way below average.

The more you love someone the more when you feel cheated you are arsh with this person.

It's somehow what I feel too and I agree with Martin.

Some people say stage is not important, we go to see Celine because her voice, right ?

Well then she really has to sing live. I mean no playback pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.

I don't need to hear All by myself or The power of love or My heart will go on, especially if from a tape. If she can't belt them right any longer or if it's too tiring for a worldwide 120-concert tour, don't add them to the playlist, that's all. Sing lighter song such as My love. It's emotional. They are the best.

When the show was advertised in December it was supposed to be a Jamie King type show, ie with light effects, dancing routines, big screens and so on. A small A New Day venue in a way. Hence you naturally expect the round shape stage type with the 8 big screens plus video-floor ; and even more when paying outrageously high priced tickets (when I went to the Stade de France in 99 I paid equivalent to 140 EUR to get the golden seats. Now it would be 250 EUR...). If the show is not as spectacular as promising it's a let down. And Celine is responsible. She's a grown up, a 40 year old artist. She has to deliver what she is : an international superstar, that's all.

Saying that, of course stage in itself is not important but therefore she has to perform live in "intimate" concerts (ie no stadium like) as she was saying she would do when releasing 1 Fille et Quatre Types. I'd love that. I'm just so hoping she would do that next time. Talking directly to our hearts, to our soul with the best instrument I have ever heard so far in my life : her voice.

I agree about the stage. I went to Antwerp and it was great. Central stage, in a venue that has a capacity of max 15,000. Futhermore, the sound quality was great.

Having seen pictures of Dublin, I would have been disappointed as well. But, as mentioned before, I have waited for over 9 years to see her, to hear her live, and I would have paid any price to do so. Antwerp was an ideal setting (max 15,000 people and central stage), everyone could SEE her on stage, Dublin however.

The only thing that bothered me was the lipsinging... My friends told me that I was wrong, but I'm sure she didn't sing everything live (if you download the bootleg of 14/5 you can here it yourself).

BUT: I saw here, and it was the (second) best concert of my life, thus worth every cent!
