Céline, why did you decide to cut your hair and sport a new look? 
CÉLINE DION: There are several reasons, but the main one is that it had become a need, not to say an imperative. You should know that I have temperamental hair that's very difficult to style. Over the past few years, every time I had to make a public appearance, I wasted two precious hours and a good part of my energy styling my hair, often—it must be said—to achieve a result that wasn't always satisfactory. And then, to be honest, I no longer felt beautiful with long hair. In fact, there were days when I was struggling so much that I felt like I looked like a drag queen. So, since my patience has its limits, I took drastic measures. 
RENÉ ANGELIL: People don't know how much trouble Céline had with her hair. One day, she could have a magnificent hairstyle, and the next day, despite all her and her hairdresser's best efforts, no one could make her hair look as good as the day before. I would describe her hair as unpredictable. 

So, wearing long hair meant wasting time that you could no longer afford? 
C.D.: Absolutely! I need my energy more and more, and honestly, wasting two hours a day doing my own hair or having it done, I just couldn't afford that anymore. Note that, if I'd had healthy, easy-to-comb hair, I wouldn't have cut it. But, since that was far from the case, I made the decision that seemed most logical to me. 

So you would have preferred to keep your hair long? 
C.D.: Of course! Personally, I'm crazy about long hair. If I'd had hair like Cindy Crawford's, I would never have agreed to have it cut. But, well, since it had become a nightmare to style... 

Are you happy with the result? 
C.D.: Very! I like it because it's practical and quick. It's the complete opposite of before. Now, when I get out of the shower, I just have to dry it well and give it a few strokes with a comb, and that's it! Today, you've chosen what's called a wet look. 

Will it always be like that? 
C.D.: No. I have a number of options. For example, when I wear them dry, they're a bit curlier because my hair is naturally curly. That makes a difference too. Let's just say I'll wear them depending on my mood. 

And you, René, what do you think of Céline's new look? 
R.A.: I love it! Personally, I think it's beautiful, fresh, and very modern. In fact, those who have had the chance to see Céline in person since she cut her hair think she made the right decision. 

But, initially, did you agree? With the idea that she'd get her hair cut? 
R.A.: Of course! I was even the first to bet her on it, six months ago. I knew her long hair was driving her crazy, and since we were working on her new album, I thought it was the perfect opportunity for her to show off a new look she'd be more comfortable with. 

A way, ultimately, to kill two birds with one stone... 
R.A.: If you like. But what I meant was that even back then, I knew she'd be more beautiful and more comfortable with short hair. 

How did you react the first time you saw her with that haircut? 
R.A.: I was shocked because, to tell you the truth, it was even better than I'd imagined. Actually, I knew she was going to get her hair cut, but I didn't know she was going to get it cut so short. It was the first time in my life I'd seen her with her hair that short. But, I repeat, I immediately loved the result. 

Céline, I imagine it took you a few days to decide to get your hair cut? 
C.D.: It took me a while, I admit. This whole thing actually started six months ago. I contacted some hairdresser friends in Montreal, Los Angeles, and New York, and we all came to the conclusion that I had to get my hair cut. The only question was which cut would suit me best. So, since I was going to be spending several weeks in Los Angeles recording my new album, and consequently would be away from the public eye, we thought it was the perfect time to do some experimenting. 
R.A.: What Céline did was, for a few weeks, she wore different short wigs. That gave her time to get used to different looks. 

Did you enjoy wearing wigs, Céline? 
C.D.: I won't deny that I found it exhausting. It was hot under those wigs, and, to be honest, I found it even more unbearable than the two hours I had to spend doing my hair before public appearances. 

And it was once in New York, finally, that everything changed... 
C.D.: That's right! It was in July. I was supposed to spend two days there, working on another stage of preparing my album. That's where I got fed up, as they say, and decided that I'd had enough of long hair. 

How did you end up calling on the famous hairdresser Frederick Fekkai?
C.D.: It was Anne-Marie, René's daughter, who told me about him. She was with me in New York, and since she knows all the top hairdressers and designers, she suggested I use the services of this internationally renowned hairdresser. 

Who are his most famous clients? 
CD: He styles Madonna, among others, and some of the biggest fashion models. 

How did you get in touch with him? 
CD: I asked René to call him. Luckily, he knew me. I admit that made it easier to get an appointment because, usually, his waiting list is three months long. 
R.A.: I explained to him that Céline was only in New York for two days and that she wanted to change her look. He was delighted, since he also thought she needed a new hairstyle. 

Once at the salon, how did things go? 
C.D.: For an hour, he played with my hair, combing it in a thousand and one ways. He even had me bare my shoulders. At first, I wondered what the result would be, but since he's an artist, I let him do his thing. Finally, after an hour, he had made up his mind. And that's when he started to work with the scissors. 

Did you receive any special treatment at the salon? 
C.D.: They asked me if I wanted a drink, if I wanted something to eat, if I wanted a manicure. They really take great care of their clients. 

And once your hair was cut, what was your first reaction? 
C.D.: Honestly, I wish it had been a little shorter. You should know that my hair was a little longer than it is now, so a bit more voluminous and curly. Once in Montreal, Louis Hechter, my hairdresser, agreed to cut it a little shorter so that, in the cut I'm showing today, there is, inevitably, his personal touch. 

After that, you continued to wear a wig. Why did you wait before presenting your new look? 
C.D.: We wanted to wait for the right moment and do it at the right time and place, during a press conference. 
R.A.: What Céline also needs to mention is that currently, in the United States, she is once again at the top of the Billboard magazine charts with her rendition of the song "When I Fall in Love," from the film Sleepless in Seattle. So, since she still has long hair in the music video and was recently invited to appear on The Tonight Show, we preferred to wait before revealing her new look. In fact, she wanted to maintain the image she'd had since the beginning of the song's promotion. 

So, she was wearing a wig during her most recent appearance on The Tonight Show... 
R.A.: Exactly! In fact, very few people noticed. 

But now that Americans recognize Céline, isn't it risky to change her look so radically?
R.A.: No, I don't think so! You have to understand that her next album will benefit from such a massive promotional campaign that people will get used to Céline's new look in no time. And besides, to be honest, this next album is so extraordinary that Céline's look will be secondary. After all, as far as I know, Céline's look has never been the main reason for her success. 

Are you, however, worried about the public's reaction? 
R.A.: No, not at all! This look probably won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I think Céline made the right decision. 

On another note, for a little over a year now, Céline has been increasingly bold in her clothing choices. She's moving towards a sexier image. Is that a reality you easily accept? 
R.A.: It's true that Céline is daring, but honestly, I prefer someone who's daring to someone who never dares to do anything. Now, as for Céline's clothing choices, I don't have a big deal to say about that. She knows a lot more about fashion than I do, and to be frank, I give her free rein in that area. 

Do you agree with all her choices? 
R.A.: Sometimes we have discussions. I've never been the type to say yes just to please someone, especially not with Céline. When I don't like something, I say so bluntly and I stick to my guns because I'm stubborn. But Céline is stubborn too, so... 

So, as for her outfits... 
R.A.: That's her business! Actually, all I want is for her to feel comfortable so she can work at her own pace. And besides, you know Céline, she dresses according to her mood. Some days she'll be very comfortable in sexy clothes, and the next day she'll wear something completely different. So, I leave that to her discretion. 

And you, Céline, would you describe yourself as daring? 
C.D.: Yes, I am daring. I'm daring in the sense that I'm always open to what's unconventional. I don't mind, for example, wearing sexy and revealing dresses. Not being prudish, I don't mind showing my body. However, when I do, it's never with the intention of saying, "Well, here, I'm going to show you my body!" Let's just say I'm not an exhibitionist. I do it simply because I enjoy it and I get a certain pleasure from it.
For example, in my most recent video, for the song "Did You Cive Enough Love," I wear particularly sexy clothes. Actually, I wear very little clothing. (laughs) But I didn't do it so people would say, "Look at her! She wants to show off!" 

It's not to create a stir... 
CD: Of course not! I agreed to do it simply because I thought the idea was fun. Sure, when I watch the video, I'm the first to be surprised by what I did, but there's nothing to write a novel about. People might be surprised because it's Céline Dion, but honestly, there's nothing shocking about it. 

In February, at the Grammys, you wore a dress that some described as quite revealing. In fact, we even saw a photo of you wearing that dress in the July issue of Playboy. How did you react when you saw your picture in that magazine? 
C.D.: It didn't bother me. After all, I didn't pose nude. That would have been a bit more worrying. But, as for that photo, I have to live with it. To tell you the story, that evening I was wearing a knit dress. Since I found it rather opaque, I decided to wear it without a bra. Actually, no one paid any attention until I stood in front of the photographers, who, with their flashes, made it see-through. It was only afterward that I realized the camera lights had played a trick on me. They completely exposed me. But, well, it didn't keep me up at night, and again, I want to make it clear that I'm not an exhibitionist. 

Do you have any insecurities about your appearance? 
C.D.: I have a few minor ones, like everyone else, but nothing major. Besides, in the line of work I do, I'd be very unhappy if I had insecurities because I feel like it would hold me back. I'd probably drag it around like a ball and chain. That's why I don't try to find more flaws than necessary and I accept myself as I am. In fact, I've always accepted myself physically. The only thing I've done over the years is try to improve myself and be more and more at peace with myself. That's all! As for the rest, I have never perceived my physical appearance as a burden or something that would prevent me from moving forward in life.

It had been posted in this thread already in 2021 - but the technical Forum difficulties "ate" the pictures. So - I just ran over them again (on the official webpage of the photographer) and they are too iconic to not post them again. Taken by Matthew Rolston in 1997. I even can still remember my (positive and ecstatic) shock when I discovered one picture of that session for the very first time in an issue of "US weekly" in April 1997. I still owe this one page and I had this picture framed on my wall for a very, very long time (before I took it off to not let the light destroy it)! For me it's certainly one of my most beloved pictures of her - among the many, many gorgeous photo session of her career!

I can't believe the moment did arrive where more of the "spider dress" can be seen. I'm still stunned how Frida was able to find it with two pictures in 2013, where only the straps and a blurry "derrière" were seen! Unbelievable!!! But, thanks to you, I could attach another picture to the finding! GREAT! Definitively a very crazy outfit!

Quite funny that they shot at this splendid location - but nothing "chaeteau-ish" is to be seen of it at the official chosen pictures.

I’m not saying this about you—I like you. I’m referring to other people on the forum.

I haven’t uploaded it in high quality because I’m tired of people here mocking my opinions and making a huge fuss when I express them, or questioning my mental health and mental integrity. Some even add me to their ignore list on the forum just for disagreeing, or call my posts s***. And then, when I have something interesting, they come back with open hands to get content from my collection. I’m sorry, but I won’t go along with that. I’m kind, but not stupid.

So those people will have to settle for the low-quality material that’s publicly available (unreleased songs, unreleased photo sessions, etc.). Sorry, but that’s how it is.

And I’ll say it again: Shaun, at no point am I talking about you. I will send you material, but privately. As for the others… well, they know. Ah, and I’m not saying that about Emilia either, who I also like very much and who will also receive material.
