everybodys repeating himself here as the whole forum has only one topic - celine. so i won´t post anything about global warming here. some keep saying how great is was, i keep saying that it was not...

I could write an overwhelming review about Celine´s 99 LTAL concert her in Munich (in front of 65,000 people) - the best I have ever seen - she was soooooooooooo good.

 

I have seen a lot of shows ever since (Kylie 3 times, Cher twice, Anastacia, Tina Turner...have a bit campy taste, haven´t I;) ) and Celines 99 concert was by far the best - so I kept telling everyone to come and see Celine because it would be massive.

 

Well, you know my opinion, I won´t repeat it (I have heared rumours that it bothers people ).

But I only saw two concerts over the last ten years that were really a major dissappointment - one was Shania Twain ( frightening), the other one was...this one.

I haven't written any comment here before, although I have been a memeber in this forum for a long time now. But after having read all your comments on the Munich Olympiastadium Concert, I just think, that now I also have something to add to this discussion.

 

I am a really longe time Celine fanatic - bought my first album in the early nineties and I am collecting any version of an album or single, that I can get and afford.. and I can really tell you that I really have a lot of nice stuff collectied through the years...

 

My first concert was in 1996 in Nürnberg /Nuremberg (Yes, then she also did the smaller cities in Germany...) and of course, like someone just said here in the forum that nothing can beat the first time seeing Celine live in Concert. It was incredible and I will remember it always and forever.

 

my second concert was the legendary Munich Concert in 1999, the sold out one and the one so many here take to compare the 2008 concert with.

Yes that Concert was really fantastic, sold out stadium with 65000 people is really a great experience. But it wasn't so hard to have it sold out because most of the other German Concert were canceled that year, because of Rénes disease and because Celine was on top of her career that time...

 

Since then 9 years have gone bye and a lot of changed. In 2008 a lot of things are different:

 

1) The ticket prices have reached such an high level, that there are a lot of people you would love to see her in concert simply cannot afford it anymore. I talked to a woman outside the stadium the afternoon, just 5 hours before the concert. She asked me if I had a ticket and how much I payed for it. I told her and she said, that she also would have liked to atend the concert, but she could not a afford a ticket in the first first two or three categories, and the other cheaper tickets, she told me are too far away from stage to be worth buying... I understand that, also because she said, that in Munich, when you stitt outside of the stadium, you have such a good sound, so she took her daughter and a picknick basket and sat outside with many others!!! to have her own money free concert experience... and the sound outsinde is really good in Munich ... I also attended some other concerts there outside and really had fun always ...

 

2) In times of youtube and downloadable HD videofiles from fans... you can have a concert experience at home too ... although I know that for me that never would be enough... but for some people I know this i also ok... when watching her on the 42" flatscreen in there living room... ;-)

 

3) Celine didn't have a big success here in Germany for years... and so ther are 14 year old kids that don't even know her... or just had heard MHWGO on the titanic video, but thats all by far... and for th older ones... Celine is not the normal star ...maybe it was the big success in the nineties that made them mad, because you couldn't listen to radio anymore without having heard MHWGO, that got so much on there nerves, I really don't know, but Celine is someone you really like, or you hate... there als less people who don't care about her... but there are a lot that roll there eyes, when they hear that I like to listen to celine ... ok.. so I think that this also limits the people that want to go to a celine concert.. or what do you think...?!

 

But for me the Concert really was great! Thanks Mischa for such a good job getting such a great place in row2 in A2 for us... SO close to Celine, that really was THE Experience for me :-)) And I am happy that the cheap Endstage was there, I like a good show, but I don't care having a good show, when I see her in front of me only 25% of the show... I am in the concert because of her and not because of the stage or the show around her... that maybe differnt with other stars but with Celine I like that more, but thats just my thought and I haven't seen the middlestage show, so I can't really compare, I juste imagine, and I liked what I got... I got to see her ))

 

Although I knew the Songlist before, having heard and watched the you tube videos before, it was great and different seeing here live just in front of me...

 

I also was surprised that I really liked the performances of I am your angel and Soul Man... much more than I thought when having watched it on youtube ;-) Also The Prayer and The Show must go on worked good for me ... I didn't really care about We will rock you... but it worked on the concert like LCMM ... ( I don't really know if I like this song or not, but I liked it on the concert) Shadow of Love was ok, but I wouldn't have missed it if she would have skipped it... but it also was ok)

 

I don't understand why Celine does some songs full or partly lipsync on a live concert, although I know that this is common with so many stars so I cannot blame her for it... I just wonder why she does it, because her voice was perfect this evening... really great and also a friend of mine who is not a die hard fan, but likes her and also was on the concert recognized that some of the older songs are lipsynced, because you can her it... and thats really not good work!!! When she sings live her voice is more directly more intense and also a little bit one ore two notes lower ... than the prerecorded parts... but ok, she did a good job, also during that little break in IACBTMN she managed the situation perfect... but you really could see her getting nervous ;-)) I do not need those songs like IACBTMN or the power of love or MHWGO but I understand that the normal crowd is waiting for these songs, because that are the songs they want to listen in a Celine Concert. Thats what they know... I ,as a fan would prefer to get more new hits and maybe more french hits... For me it is a pity that she divides the Concerts so much in English and internationally ones, that only have one french song ( remember in 1999 there were two and in 1996 there were even three french songs) and the french part of the tour...

 

Why isn't she just a little bit more risky and tries also some different stuff, like french songs, like new arrangements... she is vocally so good to

interprete her songs, make them jazzy or something... you can hear that rudimentary in the soundcheck!!! I really like to listen to the file of Taking chances I recorded when she sang it during soundcheck--- that sounds really nice... I really love her when she plays with the music and the song like that ...

interprete her songs, make them jazzy or something... you can hear that rudimentary in the soundcheck!!! I really like to listen to the file of Taking chances I recorded when she sang it during soundcheck--- that sounds really nice... I really love her when she plays with the music and the song like that ...

 

Great review Chris, really enjoyed reading it. You are so right in explaining the empty seats in the stadium, times have changed unfortunately. When I see what young teens listen too nowadays, I get a headache.

 

Could you please upload the files your recorded from the sound check? I'm really curious.

I really like your review - like it a lot.

 

I have been pretty harsh on my previous reviews - I think yours is much better than mine

Anyhow, as you I have seen Celine in Nürnberg and Munich before and it was such a major difference. As you I would not mind if she skips TPOL and other old stuff - I really like the new songs.

To me it felled a bit rushed together, more or less the same ideas as in Vegas (TPOL as the second song, the ending is exactelly the same), not really much effort spent on arrangements or deliverering something new and stunning. I also thought it was extremely obvious when she did her lipsynching - very dissapointing.

A lot of people write that they don´t care about the show, it is all about her voice.

But if there are 5 songs done playback and clearly no show delivered - I don´t know what you think but thats a bit lame.

Also found it a bit irritating that you could see her walking in and out of her dressing tent. Not really appropritate for her, given her status.

Other than that, I agree with your review 100 % - very good job

After the concert in Munich, i can not stop listening to her cds, watching her dvds and thinking that i'll be following her through her music for ever.

ahhhhh.....I drove all night to return to Munich, this time for a visit at the famous Oktoberfest (Beer fest).

 

On the way coming in the city (by car), I drove by Olympiastadion and of course got filled with mixed emotions: sadness that it has long passed and the joy the memories give me every time I think of that amazing experience.

 

Just thought I'd share this with you and bring life to this topic again.

I was planning to travel to Munich too ( to attend the Oktoberfest and visit my aunt again) But i cant because of shool etc. Next year i will be there and then i will be overwhelmed by emotions. It was the greatest Concert and the greatest night EVER!

I'm now driving to work with the tour CD at max volume in the car. I just close my eyes during the intro song (I don't know what it's called....the one at the end of the intro video) and it's like I'm on the stadium again. I was shaking from excitement to see Celine live on stage in front of me for the very first time.
