"ALONE" an official U.S. flop... on former staple format AC

just got the latest BDS figures... and celine is down 14 plays this week with "alone" as the new chart blossoms tuesday/may 13. pretty clear that the song is not even going to chart in the top 30 on billboard's AC... we tried, oh how we tried... and yet knew so much better. arghhhhh....

 

two large market stations gave it as many as 9 spins this week: WWLI/providence and WLTW/new york...

 

friends, it's over. if sony has even a quarter of a brain, they will quickly move to the next single... but sadly, i'm afraid we know better. are "fades away" and "eyes on you" too challenging to promote for a crippled label where no one can even spell celine's name anymore?

 

my only hope is that she and rene can ride out their contract -- and i honestly don't know what's left there -- and find a label that cares. amazing that barbra streisand has been with columbia her entire career and they still roll out the red carpet... sony had such a chance to cash in with "taking chances" and did pretty much everything wrong...

 

you know, after working in this industry for a dozen years, i try so hard to not be cynical, but i see a label where 90% of those who were in charge when celine celebrated joining the greatest record company in the world have been fired... if only i had any vision of who they planned to replace her with. it just seems like an endless shrug and a giant DUH... leona lewis is wondrous and i love her, but a single new artist cannot carry an entire company.

 

i can't believe that i'd ever say it: but i think her only savior at this point is clive davis. he may be mafia, but at least he recognizes talent and pays whatever is necessary to achieve fame... just wait. whitney's next album will be regarded as the ultimate return... thanks to clive's $$$ and mojo. and at this point. celine needs the same.

 

so frustrating.... ultimately debilitating. never ever thought we'd reach a point where celine had to fight for her right on the AC chart...

Chuck : Thanks for the post!! This was so avoidable if only Sony would do the leg work. Take a look at other Sony artists websites (not necessarily official, but MySpace) MySpace and Facebook are HUGE resourses that Sony should have fleshed out.

I know that some of the things he has said about Celine's album sales has made me cringe. Isn't it his job to make sure her albums sell? Again, it is NOT a matter of charts, million selling albums etc anymore! Its about the treat she's receveing from her record company, which means any promotion! Its like they don't mind about her, they have consigned her to oblivion. She is being ignored and ridiculed by her own music label! You dont care about the miserable releases we are getting since 2002?

 

Don't you think that Céline Dion deserves (at least) the same good promotion and material that Madonna, Beyoncé, and many others have for their fans? Why not Céline Dion?? Its all about that. Everything is going down since 2004, and the show business is forgetting her, can't she and René realize? Why they want this indifference?. Its NOT about sales or money, its about bringing back Céline to the place that her music and she herself deserves!. But this situation? This is just shameful!!

Completely true. I just don't want to talk about the situation in Spain because its painful. She's just forgotten in the radios, and when a song is played (which rarely happens), she's almost compared to the singers that are beggining their careers

I don't think the world needs to hear more ballads from Céline Dion . If she keeps releasing slow ballads as singles for the radios, however much good they are, they won't do anything but making worse the image that non-fans have about Céline's music (screaming-ballad singer, slow and oldish songs, etc). I can notice an increasing feeling of contempt towards the music of Céline (I think I'm not discovering you anything new with this statement), and more ballads wouldn't help to improve her situation in radios today

 

So she just needs good uptempo songs, but maybe this rock album hasn't arrived in the best moment. I still think that the RNB songs would have worked better in radios...
