"I Drove All Night" as the opening song

I'd definitly prefer an older song like IDAN to something like TC which people are still learning. It makes sense to start with a song people know (even if they know it from cyndi lauper)

 

Originally the song was written for Roy Orbison in 1987. Unfortunately he died a year later before the song was released to the public. Cindy Lauper covered the song in 1989 and had a rather big hit with it. The original version by Roy Orbison was released in 1992 when a new (posthume) album from Roy was released.

 

Although it's a cover it's a nice way to open the show...

I think it's a great choice! However- I don't know what to tell my 7 year old when she quizzes me about the show!!

 

It's her favorite song and she's not going to the show...maybe I can record it somehow w my phone...

I think it creates a great energy for the beginning of the show. It gets everyone on their feet with excitement!

I still with that she'd have more D'ELLES songs, but we can't have everything.

I do think it is a good song to open the show with - however I have thought it's a bit strange to open up your show with a song that isn't originally your's if you know what I mean.

 

But it is a good song and it get's the crowd going! (as if Celine herself isn't enough to get the crowd going!!) :D

If we want to be picky about it, a huge part of the show isn't originally Celine's material!!!

Taking Chances is a cover??? :o What, can't be!! :o :huh:

 

About those other covers, sure they are all covers, but some of them, like River Deep Mountain High, All By Myself, The Power Of Love and It's All Coming Back To Me Now have also become very famous sung especially by Céline (many years ago already), so I don't even think about it anymore that they're not originally hers. To me they are really "Céline songs", cause it's by her I have heard them the first time. Then again, it's different with Show Must Go On and We Will Rock You, which are never gonna be Céline songs, they are Queen's forever and then again used by soo many other artists too, that I consider them more like just some "extra performances". But I think they're just a great part of the show! Especially Show Must Go On.. wow!! It gave me chills..

 

Oh and to respond to the topic, I think I Drove All Night was a great choice as the opening song, it really made the excitement to grow and grow, and then, she came on stage and started singing a capella..! All the excitement went to my feet at that moment and I didn't know how to be!! :D And the "is that alright Helsinki?!" (or which ever city/country in question) was so awesome! ^_^ And I too thought the lyrics were so great for this tour exactly, I drove all night to get to YOU! ^_^

 

But I still can't believe Taking Chances would be a cover.... Is it really?! :huh: :mellow:

Yes, it was recorded originally by Platinum Weird. Their lead singer Kara DioGuardi worked with Celine on the album, you may have seen her in the "making of" videos.

i think it's the best choice....after five years in which we went to see her in vegas.... now is she the one that comes to us, and i think that is beautiful this concept.... moreover the song is powerful and perfect to give us the right strenght for the concert.

perfect choice - except for vienna (did not really work, did it? ;)

 

honestly i think the song theme is great to open a show - it should be live for a live show though
