A New Day Has Come Posted March 28, 2008 at 11:39 PM Posted March 28, 2008 at 11:39 PM (edited) Taking Chances. Edited March 28, 2008 at 11:39 PM by A New Day Has Come Quote
cymro2007 Posted March 29, 2008 at 01:08 AM Posted March 29, 2008 at 01:08 AM D'elles without any doubt! This album is a masterpiece both lyrically and musically. Celine's vocals are so passionate and fresh (something we've not really heard since A New Day Has Come) and everything about it oozes quality and true artistry. As a whole album it works better than anything she's ever recorded in English or French. I have never felt the need to skip to the next track. Don't get me wrong, she's recorded some amazing tracks over the years which I love but as an ALBUM this is as close to perfection as you can get - the mood, the direction, the sentiment. This album has it all. And even if you don't understand the words, from the first listen you can tell that this is something very special indeed. This cannot be said for Taking Chances - an album which can only be described as a mess. You kinda get the impression that it was a rushed job in between shows in Vegas - poor choice of songs, tracks placed in the wrong order, too many fillers, Celine sounds tired and bland in many of the tracks and the quality of production on some tracks is questionable. Celine isn't as experimental as the title suggests either - if the album was radically different from anything she's ever done before i wouldn't mind, even if it wasn't to my taste. You couldn't knock the girl for trying, but it falls so short of the mark. She just hasn't tried hard enough. Admittedly there are some flashes of brilliance but I find the rest rather dull. There's just nothing that moves you when you listen to the album. Having followed her career from the early days, I have always had that 'wow' feeling after listening to all of her previous albums for the first time. And don't get me started on that horrific cover version of Alone! I don't mind her covering other people's work but do it with conviction or don't bother! Please don't slate me on this one guys - I love Celine as much as the rest of you - but i feel very underwhelmed with this much hyped album. I just hope she gets her act together for the next one! How about an English version of D'elles and see how that sells? It's gotta be worth a shot! It's D'elles every time for me!! Quote
Black Kitten Posted March 29, 2008 at 01:13 AM Posted March 29, 2008 at 01:13 AM D'elles is booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring! Quote
celínico_sin_remedio Posted March 29, 2008 at 01:36 AM Posted March 29, 2008 at 01:36 AM Even if Taking Chances is not as edgier as it was said to be... The most important thing is trying to do something new... So my vote goes for Taking Chances!! About D'elles...yeah,it has great songs...but most of them are a little bit boring , as dhena said.... Esty Posted March 29, 2008 at 09:53 AM Posted March 29, 2008 at 09:53 AM I can't really compare the two albums... They're too different. D'elles is the artistic, profound Celine, whereas Taking Chances is the more commercial Celine. There are great songs on both albums. They are two different worlds with one in common - Celine's magnificent voice. Quote

Taking Chanes - "the more commercial Celine" - yes, but it's just a shame it doesn't work for her. And judging by poor performance from the record company in terms of promotion and such lack of airplay on radio, people in the industry clearly don't think it works either!! Quote

TC is good---but D'ELLES is a HAPPENING in Celine's career. Exactly! I had the same thoughts, Alex. I mean I really don't get it when people say that "D'elles" is boring That is one heck of an insult! Besides, comparing an amazing artistic french record to an album which is..umm.. "good but not there yet" record is ridiculous. I wonder how those people who find De'lles boring can say that Don't they understand the lyrics or can't gt the music or whatever.. I don't know.. but whatever the reasons may be, D'elles is definitely not boring. It would be like comparing D'eux or even SSDA to a somewhat lifeless album like LTAL (another commercial product) which is just not fair. My fav. album is D'elles, too. So my vote goes for it. Nevertheless, Taking Chances is a good album and one of her best after her hiatus. But comparing it to D'elles is just Quote

Cris77 Posted March 29, 2008 at 02:12 PM Posted March 29, 2008 at 02:12 PM D'elles is booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring! It was not so neccesary to confirm how it booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooores you. However I may say this album has much more quality than taking chances. You don´t seem to appreciate it girl. Lyrics are like poems. It's so rich in texts. Their meaning and the depth is so impecable. Songs have been meticulously selected to fit the wonderful texts those women wrote. The digipack is far better than the taking chances one.I also agree with what some of you said. Taking Chances seems to have been done so quickly. Despite this I love the album. My vote's for D'elles with no doubt. Quote
destin139 Posted March 29, 2008 at 02:24 PM Posted March 29, 2008 at 02:24 PM i voted taking chances because it shows her going in a new direction and shows her versatile she is!although i love d'elles too...! Quote http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww171/destin139/Celine2.jpg
WendyB Posted March 29, 2008 at 02:43 PM Posted March 29, 2008 at 02:43 PM How can you compare them? They're so different. However, my vote goes to D'elles - her French CDs are generally in a different class to her English ones. Quote

PEOPLE, LEARN TO RESPECT OTHER'S OPINION! You're exaggerating girl. Who said rude words to you???Nobody meant to be unrespectful. Don´t know why you get so angry but it was your way of writing what is annoying. You used a kind of sarcastic tone. You could have said: Well I don't particularly find D'elles entertaining or I find it a little boring. But saying Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring looks unrespesctful to the rest of people who love it and quite childish in behaviour. Edited March 30, 2008 at 10:56 AM by Cris77 Quote

Prince Whiskers Posted March 30, 2008 at 12:39 PM Posted March 30, 2008 at 12:39 PM I enjoy TCH more because of catchy songs like FA, IGNL, ML, TT, SS and SOL. It's her 1 fille & 4 types in English as far as musical adventurism is concerned. D'elles is more art-minded than chart-focused. It is this evocative album whose primary pursuit is not to entertain (unlike TCH) but to express an artist's personal emotions.
