ZoraSourit Posted March 18, 2008 at 05:45 PM Posted March 18, 2008 at 05:45 PM Fantastic! Love it! It's always different when Céline takes the time to sing a song that's king of personal. fred Posted March 19, 2008 at 12:00 AM Posted March 19, 2008 at 12:00 AM OK, I just have to say this: stop blaming Rene for not seeing Céline/not seeing Céline's state. He sees, and what do we know if he acts or not?! The song isn't about people around her not seeing how she feels and she tries to call for attention, it's about her finally admitting she has forgotten many aspects of herself during this long and incredible journey. Stop blaming. And stop blaming Rene, for Christ sake he loves her, it would brake his heart (and Céline's) to see the interpretions some of you put into this. /fred Quote Peace and love to all.

tonybower Posted March 19, 2008 at 11:42 PM Posted March 19, 2008 at 11:42 PM Probably one of the best songs on the album. I love it... Maybe the fact that Celine really connects with this song is what makes it stand out so much... Linda Perry did great work on this album. She was definitely right for Celine... However, I'm not sure I like her approach : bring Celine to tears and make her sing! She definitley seems to be a bit of a ball-buster and very intimidating. Not sure Celine was expecting that! I won't say they didn't get on personally but I doubt Celine will be having Linda round for tea anytime soon! But who cares as long as they make records together! I have just realised that when I made these comments about Linda Perry, I was actually thinking about somebody else.I'm talking about the woman who produced Surprise Surprise. I thought it was Linda Perry but I have just watched the recording session for this song again and realised it's not Linda at all. It's a much younger girl. Any idea who she is? She certainly seems very demanding and I cn imagine a bit of tension in the studio that day! Still, she gets results! Surprise Surprise is one of may faves off the album! CellyDee87 Posted April 28, 2008 at 01:21 AM Posted April 28, 2008 at 01:21 AM After watching roberry82's Youtube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYkKAi_wCWc in "If others can why can't Celine", I was absolutely stunned! I have never really seen this side of Celine, letting her guard down. I think it really shows how very symbolic the lyrics are to her. It also made me question her home life though and Rene's attitude to Celine's career clearly always being on the go without a minute to spare. And she actually says she doesn't really know who she is and that the artist has taken over Celine that little girl I was honestly brought to tears I really do hope she is happy but this made me wonder whether she's continually covering up because she can't say no. Any Thoughts??? Quote

shedawon Posted April 28, 2008 at 03:45 AM Posted April 28, 2008 at 03:45 AM Beautiful the way Celine sings this song - this was my favourite when she performed in Brisbane - Australia, when she sang "My Love" - she sang the bridge " I would share my whole life with you (she pointed to the audience) - would you do the same for me." and " I would give all I am too you (again she pointed to the audience) - would you do the same for me". Like she has given her life to everyone else through out her career but she forgot about herself what she needs ....and Linda tells it in the song "it is what Celine wanted right from the start" and Celine admits it, sadly, she totally forgot about herself. She is the most UNSELFISH person...and love her dearly for it. Thumbs up to Linda Perry - incredible song writer Quote "life is on loan to us"...Celinehttp://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o292/cell_016/555555-Kopie.jpg

Jacqui Posted April 28, 2008 at 07:36 AM Posted April 28, 2008 at 07:36 AM I find it hard to believe that she feels she doesn't know herself. She's always said in the past, and since then, how her voice as a woman is stronger than her voice as a singer, how grounded she is and how fame hasn't changed her. She seemed so genuine when she said that stuff...was it all a lie? How could anyone seem so happy and honest as much of the time as she does, if at least some of it isn't real? That's sweet about her pointing to the audience...I think most of us would do anything for her, if she asked us to, or needed us to. Hopefully she knows how loved she is. Quote
Jumpy Posted May 4, 2008 at 09:53 AM Posted May 4, 2008 at 09:53 AM (edited) this is the first time that i really dont understand what she is trying to sayAnd I still don't understand what this song talks about. If someone has the patience to tell me... hehe didnt you watch the vid? Of course I did, but I still don't see what Linda said on this song... Linda says that Celine is somebody who is or was unable to say 'no' in the past. I think this means Celine is constantly putting herself out for other people, making personal sacrifices and working herself into the ground basically becasue she doesn't or can't stop to think about what she really wants.I think it goes deeper than that. People here are saying that it's all a little over dramatic and Celine lives a good life and has always been in control. Whilst that may be true, sometimes it is hard to think of ourselves in a certain way, until somebody else puts it into words, and when that happens it can be very emotional. When somebody puts your life into words you could never form, even if it's in a simplistic way, it can be uplifting, painful and enlightening. It doesn't mean Celine is unhappy with her life and has acted like some kind of martyr, just that not everything in life turns out the way we want, or meets expectations. I don't think it's all about her career, although that's a major part. I think it says a lot about her relationship with Rene: My love, we have seen it all, The endless confessions, the rise and fall......as fragile as a childbut lately I'm sorry, I can't hold a smile...But I'll stand tall to get byNo matter how hard I try to hideDid you know I'd take the time for you...How did you know that I would play the part?I must have made it clear from the start. The important parts are highlighted. Let's not forget that Celine was a child star, like Michael Jackson. She was not an adult making a rational choice. People around her recognised her talent and saw that she wanted to sing so 'helped' her with her dream. Her amazing talent coupled with good business management made her a huge success. She was almost born into showbusiness. I wanted to be a vet when I was 12 but now it's the furthest thing from my mind. My point is that, what Celine wanted when she was 12 is not necessarily the same thing she would want at 18, 25, 40 etc... Celine's life was more or less shaped for her from the word go, and of course she has her own mind and played a part in it but that does not mean she is ever in control. And just likes it is hard for any of us to actually make a change and take risks with our future, it will also be hard for Celine to decide to stop performing. She may not need the money or the fame but it's the only lifestyle she has ever known. It's interesting where she says 'as fragile as a child' because child-stars never really grow up, partly because they never really have a childhood. Celine has only ever had limited experience of a normal life, where her days were not about this appearance or that show, or this recording. She has always been in the limelight. So yes, it might be difficult for her to stop singing and we might think that music is her life and she could never fully retire. But that is because it is all she has ever known. And even if she did stop, she couldn't have a normal life now. So she keeps working. And as an artist you need to remain fairly active in order to keep your name relevant, you have fans you need to please etc... and so, even if you don't feel like it anymore, even if you feel trapped and can't hold a smile, you 'Stand tall to get by' 'I must have made it clear right from the start' is a line that suggests she did it for other people (Rene, her family etc) in the begininning more so than for herself. Of course, if you look at Celine in her early twenties and around the FIY period, you can see a very determined, ambitious, focused young woman. Like Linda said, that is how she got where she is today. But her success has come at a price and a lot of personal sacrifice. I can understand why some people might find it hard to feel sorry for a successful multi-millionaire, but fame and money does not buy happiness. And isn't the grass always greener: many people would give anything to live like Celine, but Celine has the life and she has found that it doesn't necessarily amount to personal happiness. There is a song by Janis Ian called Stars and I think some of the lyrics are very enlightening and might help to understand why Celine might not always be happy with the choices she has made: 'Some make it when they're young, before the world has done it's dirty jobLater on someone will say you've had your day...But they'll never know the pain of living with a name you never owned... Perhaps pretending you never saw the eyes of grown men of 25that follow as you walk and ask for autographs, or kiss you on the cheekAnd you never can believe they really loved you... The point is, whatever choices Celine made, she probably never thought it would see her reduced to a name. A name she doesn't own. Celine Dion is a a brand now, but behind the brand name and the voice, is a person, with human emotions who is allowed to doubt her own choices. I think Celine is very happy with her achievements, but it pains her to see people devoting their every waking breath to her because it is not her: it's her voice and her music and nothing else. You will also notice that Celine advises people to follow their dreams but not to make it their life like she has. Okay, great if you succeed but don't expect it to make you happy. and if you don't succeed, well life goes on and it is still possible to be very happy. I think that is a very encouraging message from such a successful artist. Well, that was a ridiculously long message. I apologise. I would edit it but I think I've spent far too long on it already. The point is that Celine made choices, with or without the influence of other people, but now she has a lifestyle and a hell of a big responsibility towards her fans. For the vet who suddenly realises he wants to be a lawyer, or a florist or a teacher: there are risks nvolved but it would be relatively easy to change career paths. For an international artist with devoted fans, it's not so easy: I know how I'd feel if Celine retired and I'm just one fan. Multiply that by several hundred thousand and you can begin to understand why Celine's situation may not be so rosy... None of us is in her position so we cannot possibly know what it must be like to live in the spotlight, to exist only in the spotlight, to be approached by complete strangers who claim to know and love you when in fact they only know your face and name. It certainly does not seem very appealing to me... Probably why some people like Agnetha from ABBA become a virtual recluse once the career ends. Thank you very much !! I speak english a little, right now I understand what a emotion "My Love" means. Edited May 4, 2008 at 09:59 AM by Jumpy Quote Are you ready to jump? _ Get ready to jump _ Don't ever look back, oh baby _ Yes, I'm ready to jump _ Just take my hands _ Get ready to, are you ready?
