CSCfan Posted May 20, 2008 at 10:44 AM Posted May 20, 2008 at 10:44 AM Dion gig goes down like Titanic with Mickoby Mark May, 20 May 2008 Wicklow boss Mick O’Dwyer has slammed the GAA’s decision to allow a Celine Dion gig to affect his county’s chances of playing in Croke Park. The Canadian diva plays a concert in Croke Park the night before the Leinster Championship quarter-final tie between Wicklow and Laois on Saturday week, resulting in the match being switched to Dr Cullen Park in Carlow. And Micko is anything but impressed with headquarters’ decision to allow concerts to take place on the hallowed turf of Croke Park while the Championship is up and running. “Croke Park should be hosting all Leinster games in the summer months,” the former Kerry supremo told the Irish Independent. “We built Croke Park to accommodate Gaelic Games first and foremost and they should be given priority. “Carlow is a good venue too, in fairness to it and we’d have no objections to playing there but Croke Park is special and young fellas love to play there. “If they are serious about promoting games in a county like Wicklow which has been rated so lowly then Croke Park is the best place to promote it.” The Garden County have enjoyed moderate success in Croke Park in the last year and O’Dwyer reckons that bit of experience stood to the county on the weekend as they recorded their first ever Championship victory at the Jones’ Road venue. He added: “I feel they made the difference. We had enjoyed the experience there last year and we benefited from it. “Then we won the Tommy Murphy Cup and always targeted the Kildare game once the draw was made. We had our fun in the previous year’s O’Byrne Cup and weren’t too interested in that again.” Quote »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» MATHIAS ««««««««««««««««««««««««««««««««https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzPrxI0AIDY

nic Posted May 20, 2008 at 11:30 AM Posted May 20, 2008 at 11:30 AM (edited) He has a point in fairness. Although, i suppose you could argue that by renting out the ground, the GAA will gain a lot of revenue that can be put to good use elsewhere... Edited May 20, 2008 at 11:30 AM by nic Quote
J-Man Posted May 20, 2008 at 05:49 PM Posted May 20, 2008 at 05:49 PM Yeah, but to give Celine her dues, she's offered to pick up a hurley and score a few points for Cork when they next play at Croke Park, so she's giving something back. Anyway, the GAA have more money stashed away than the Vatican! Quote http://www.powerofthemusic.com/other/FORUMSIG1.png
