That's great!

 

But it sucks indeed if these were the only reports about this concert in Dutch media as the concert was really GIGANTIC!!!!

 

I already wondered on Tuesday morning when I saw that tiny weeny "Celine Dion returns" article on page 26 of Dutch "Metro" but than I thought: maybe that's because it's a free newspaper and they mainly put small articles for quick read in the trains....

Where you've been seating in 2nd row - what section? I was in A6 front row and I'm almost sure some people behind me spoke Spanish... And the guy on my right in the front row was Swedish, hehe!

Is there anyone who would like to create a nice cover for the audio bootleg using some picture(s) from Amsterdam show??

Somewhere in a corner of the cover please give credit to Dionesque for the recording and to you for making the artwork (like Bralo20 did for the Antwerp May 14th bootleg - you can see his work in the Antwerp May 14th topic).

There are some more articles in the newspapers in Holland. Yesterdag in the local newspaper "Brabants Dagblad" a long article.

I don't have time to translate but overall it is quite positive. Although it says that the covers from Queen, Man's World and RDMH are not her kind, she can't do them because of her thin voice.

 

Also some technical notes: They've found out that te sound during the concert came overall half a second later. At some points even 1,5 seconds later. But the ArenA is known for her bad sound..

Geen idee of het overal ter wereld zo is, maar in Nederland voltrekt zich bij het noemen van de naam Céline Dion een waterscheiding. Mannen beginnen te kokhalzen; vrouwen beginnen licht te geven, een zacht, gedempt romantisch licht, waar je je als man graag aan zou willen laven, ware het niet dat je net aan het kokhalzen was.

 

We generaliseren natuurlijk. Toch was de overweldigende aanwezigheid van vrouwen bij het langverbeide concert van Céline Dion, maandag in de Amsterdam Arena, opmerkelijk. Althans net zo opmerkelijk als de overweldigende aanwezigheid van kerels bij een concert van Motörhead.

 

Blijkbaar bestaat er zoiets als vrouwen- en mannenmuziek.

 

Superster Céline, een van de bestverkopende platenartiesten aller tijden, was acht jaar niet meer in Nederland geweest. Te druk met andere dingen. Een zieke en weer genezen echtgenoot, een zoontje, en vooral een contract dat haar van 2002 tot en met 2007 verbond aan het vierduizend stoelen tellende Colosseum in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas.

 

Maar in februari begon ze in Zuid-Afrika weer aan een wereldtournee, getiteld Taking chances. Net als in 1999 stond er ook weer een concert in de Arena op de rol. "Het is veel te lang geleden dat ik hier was", zei ze na een hartverscheurende versie van haar signature-song The power of love, een van de typische spierballenballads die het fundament vormen onder Dions megasucces. En: Let's make up for that lost time, allright? – zinnen die ze de komende dagen ongetwijfeld ook in Kopenhagen, Stockholm, Berlijn en Frankfurt met evenveel professionele oprechtheid van haar lippen zal laten rollen.

 

Bijgestaan door acht dansers en een vakkundige band bracht Celine Dion in het midden van de Arena een geoliede, geen moment vervelende show, met als enige, maar niet onbelangrijke minpunt de meer dan erbarmelijke kwaliteit van het geluid. Een continue vertraging van een halve seconde veranderde de totaalklank anderhalf uur lang in een akoestische soep.

 

Een bizarre ervaring. Maar geen woord van protest bij het publiek, dat deze waanzin blijkbaar accepteert.

 

Vanaf rij acht was goed te zien dat Céline Dion zich met hart en ziel overgaf aan de muziek. Geen geplayback, zoals bij Dolly Parton of Madonna, maar een zeer energiek gezongen show, geregisseerd door Jamie King, die ook verantwoordelijk was voor Madonna's tournee Confessions.

 

Dions glasheldere sopraan – ze kan écht geweldig zingen (She really can sing amazing)– wordt door zeurpieten nog weleens als synthetisch weggezet, maar live is er een vocale gloed die de rillingen over de rug kan jagen, of je nu wil of niet, vooral in de langzame nummers.

 

Maar een rock- of een soulzangeres is ze niet. Voor covers van Queens We will rock you, van James Browns It's a man's world of van River deep, mountain high (de eerste toegift) is haar stem te gepolijst.

I want to thank you very much for the bootleg from Amsterdam! I have listened to it all day & it's wonderful. You're the best!

Martijn, if there are 120 minutes CD-Rs available than it will be possible to burn it on one CD but I'm not sure if there are such CD-Rs on the market...

I want to check it myself the next time I'm going shopping.

Otherwise you can burn it on one CD as MP3 if you have a hi-fi or car CD player that plays MP3 CDs.
