My favorite winner is Carrie Underwood, but my favorite overall contestant is Anthony Fedorov who came in 4th place on Carrie's season. He's the blonde guy known for singing ballads and has a hole in his throat from a tracheostomy he had as a baby to help him breathe. During the season, one of his standout performances was when he sang Celine Dion's "I Surrender". Here's the video of him performing the song: http://youtube.com/watch?v=MGAi-xNvbQs I have seen Anthony perform live 4 times and I met him 4 times as well. Saw him perform at the American Idol season 4 live tour two summers ago, and I met him at a music festival in Rhode Island, as well in NYC twice where he performed in the lead role on the off broadway play, The Fantasticks, this past summer. And I also met him at the seaon 6 American Idol finale in Los Angeles. He really is one of the sweetest people I've ever met. Tragedy has hit his family last september when his older brother died from a form of cancer called Ewings Sarcoma after only fighting it for a year and a half. Since then, Anthony has been the spokesman for the Sarcoma Foundation of America where he works to raise funds and awareness to help fight the disease. Also earlier this month, Anthony put on a solo concert in his hometown of Philadelphia where a part of the ticket sales went towards the SFA. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this concert but one of his fans I've gotten to know quite well called me during the show to let me listen to him singing, and I was really impressed even though the phone reception wasn't the greatest. And guess what song I heard when I first recieve the call.....Celine Dion's "That's the Way It Is"! yea!!! Here's a video of him performing that song. In fact one of Anthony's favorite singers besides Marc Anthony is Celine Dion! He often calls the style of music he sings as a male Celine Dion with a latin twist from Marc Anthony thrown in. And There was a Q&A session he did during the time he was still on the Fantasticks where he was asked if he could do a duet with any female singer, who would he choose...he immediately said Celine! As for this season, I agree, most of the singers weren't that great, but I still saw the show live a few times. It's just that I now live in Los Angeles and it's something to do for the heck of it. Of course though, no live elimination show has beat the experience I had going to the Celine Dion taping for Idol Gives Back. *sigh*. If only I had been bold enough to ask the host sometime in between the tapings if I could get a hug from Celine. Or if I only looked like Paula Abdul from behind, I could have sat dead center front row. Quote
