Hey, Does anyone have any information on seating (if there are seats) for Celine's appearance. I keep seeing tickets with SAQ zone, Bell Zone, Ultramar Zone, Desjardins zone- etc- Is one zone better than the other? Or is it General Admission and those are just the sponsors?

Any answers??

Céline battles McCartney over the Plains of Abraham / Quebec settles Celine concert flap

QUEBEC - A battle over the site for free outdoor concerts on Quebec City's Plains of Abraham by Celine Dion and Paul McCartney appeared settled Monday, as organizers for Quebec City's 400th anniversary celebrations stuck to their decision to stage Dion's concert in an open field.

"The shows will take place where we said they would," said Daniel Gelinas, who heads the 400th celebrations. "We will reflect. Probably nothing will change."

McCartney will play on July 20 in the natural amphitheatre behind the city's historic armoury, which burned to a shell this winter. That site, where French crooner Charles Aznavour played Sunday to a capacity audience of between 75,000 and 80,000 spectators, is not available to Dion because on Aug. 22 - when she will hold her show - a 19th-century golf course will be recreated on the hilly site.

Dion's show will take place in an open field about three kilometres to the west of the McCartney site.

She announced earlier this year she would take a break from her hometown run of shows at Montreal's Bell Centre, where tickets cost as much as $1,100, to give a free concert on the Plains of Abraham, as her gift for Quebec City's 400th birthday.

Dion will sing for about 20 minutes, but her show will also include Quebec performers Garou, Claude Dubois, Marc Dupre, Jean-Pierre Ferland and the Dion family.

Controversy flared over the location of Dion's concert when Rene Angelil, Dion's manager-husband, was told the site for the McCartney concert can hold 250,000 people, while the site Dion has been offered is limited to 100,000.

Organizers for the 400th celebrations refuse to provide crowd-capacity estimates.

But a source close to the organization said the amphitheatre site's capacity is closer to 80,000. Adding spectators off-site, where giant screens will be erected, it is possible that 250,000 could see the show.

No tickets are needed for McCartney's free concert.

For the Dion concert, free tickets, either handed out or distributed by event sponsors, are available.

But there have been problems. On the weekend, people slept overnight outside a participating McDonald's restaurants for free tickets.

Some holders of the "free" tickets have put them on sale on eBay.

Angelil, who is with Dion's world tour currently in France, told Quebec City daily Le Soleil he was horrified by the ticket giveaway.

"I want a maximum number of people to see Celine," Angelil said, adding that the idea of the tickets was not his. It was proposed by Gelinas's predecessor and the number of tickets was capped at 100,000.

"When I learned there would be 250,000 for McCartney on the same site, I was shocked, surprised."

In fact, Dion's concert is not on the same site. But, while it is not a natural amphitheatre, the open field is about four times larger.

In a statement, McCartney said music is a fantastic way to celebrate Quebec City's founding 400 years ago.

"It's a universal language that can bring everybody together," he said. "Our two countries have close ties that remain strong to this day."

McCartney has never performed in Quebec City. His old group, The Beatles, played the Forum in Montreal in 1964.

Céline is an international Superstar and one the world's best singers. I totally agree with Réne.

But however, I think Céline will do the show - elle est Québecoise!

I so wish i could go to this! :( i bet it will be great. i think the ticket idea was not a good one...wasnt it obvious they were going to end up on ebay  they should let more than 100,000 people in too and like they said have the big screens.

Dion and McCartney get equal space for Quebec City concert

QUEBEC — The battle for seating space on the Plains of Abraham between Paul McCartney and Celine Dion has ended in a draw.

To help celebrate Quebec City's 400th anniversary, the pop diva offered to give a free concert on August 22nd. But the site chosen for her show was limited to 100,000 fans who had already stood in line to get reserved tickets.

That upset Dion's manager-husband Rene Angelil.

The location of an open-air concert by McCartney on July 20th can hold up to 200,000 people.

It wasn't possible to relocate the venue for Dion's show.

So to keep Angelil happy, organizers were able to expand the site of his wife's concert to make room for another 100,000 fans.

Expansion of Céline's site helps smooth feathers for Quebec City headliner concerts

recount in the turf battle of the Plains of Abraham - set off when Céline Dion's husband-manager René Angélil objected that Paul McCartney would have 250,000 spectators for his free concert July 20 and Céline would only have 100,000 for her Aug. 22 performance - has resulted in a tie.

Each show now has room for about 200,000 spectators.

Daniel Gélinas, who heads the Société du 400é, which is managing festivities marking Quebec City's 400th birthday, told reporters yesterday that calculating three persons a square metre, and expanding the site, there will be room for 170,000 to 200,000 at the natural amphitheatre where the McCartney show was originally planned.

Using the same calculation, 350,000 could squeeze into the site planned for Dion's show. But he admitted not all those places have a good view.

So in addition to the 100,000 holders of free tickets, who will have reserved places, Gélinas said another 100,000 to 120,000 could see Dion's show.

Gélinas phoned Angélil in France yesterday and reported that Dion's manager is "very, very happy" with the the new arrangement.

Paul McCartney is Timeless. But who dares to battle with a DIVA?

I think that government is quite smart when it comes to saving a buck, they will have a kick #ss show with U2 even if Céline is not there, they are HUGE, even more so than Céline. And if Céline is not there it will hurt HER image to abandon their fans and town. I understand it is business, but that is not how local people will see it, it will look as if Céline turned her back on them and the organization people know that so they kinda have Rene by the *you know what*. Céline should do it for free, not because she can't get paid, but bc she cannot win this one.

Unfortunately, I agree. In the end, if she doesn't perform, she will be the one who takes the fallout from the negative publicity (not her management, not even Rene). Though this is not business related, it's just like the thing with her cover of "Shook me all night long. She wasn't the only one singing the song, yet her name, and her name alone is the one being associated with it being the worst cover of a song (I don't agree). The general population will see her not performing in Montreal as her decision and not a business decision made by management. And because it is such a momentous occasion, I don't think she'll be able to live it down. They'll associate it with being about the money. This whole thing is just UNFAIR :nono: , even more so because I think it is something she really wants to do, not just because it's home, but because of her "first fans". I hope this makes sense. I think, though, if Celine has any say in it, they'll make a compromise and she will do it. She is about her fans and I don't think, with this being the occasion that it is, she'll let her fans down, even if she doesn't get as much as her management initially wanted.

Céline's concert will be aired live on Indigo, on demand on Illico and later on TVA!!!

He cited the recent example of Paul McCartney’s monster concert on the Plains of Abraham two weeks ago, which was broadcast live on the company’s pay-per-view TV service.

For those who missed that opportunity, the ex-Beatle’s performance is now available on Videotron’s Illico video-on-demand service, while Peladeau said it will soon be broadcast on TVA, Quebecor Media’s over-the-air TV network.

He said a similar package will be put together for Celine Dion’s Aug. 22 show on the Plains.

That Paul McCartney show at the Plains recently was a big success. He put on a great show but even HE was involved in a bit of Quebec controversy! When he was booked to play there some (I think just a few) thought it was inappropriate to have someone from England play at a Quebec anniversary show because of

the history of that region, etc.

I guess I can sort of see their point, a little bit but it's 2008...can't we all just get along!

Anyways it's nice to see that it's not just Celine getting the controversy! :giggle:

It will be also possible D to attend the service of the singer of the Bank-South, where six giant screens will be installed. According to the Town of Lévis, this second site, is the ground of the new Center of the congresses, will be able to accomodate nearly 100.000 people.

Identical to that used by Paul McCartney as regards her base, the scene on which Céline Dion will evolve/move will be provided D a higher ceiling. By doing this, it will be heavier than the preceding one.
