"D'Elles" - on the charts!

IMO D'elles is Celine's MOST commercial album out of all her french ones! See the package, 3 EDITIONS, Tf1 special was such a commercial, an very very radio friendly songs (2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12).

But i'm okay with it not being promoted as it maybe deserves. it's a fan favourite already, and that's all that matters. It was always that way: french = quality ; english = $$$

I was talking about the music alone, not the packaging. If D'elles is commercial than what are albums like One Heart and stuff  No, it's not that commercial, it's just great music.

Anyway, Sony expected it to sell 500,000 copies, which it has already done only one month, so for sure the sales will surpass their expectations. I guess it will reach 1 million, especially after her Paris concerts next year. And 1 million for a French album nowadays is just amazing!

well DELLES sold around 250k worldwide til now and not 500k :thumbsup2:

it's a poor result even for a french record and i truely cant see how this album will reach the 1 million mark

the fact that they r not releasing A CAUSE makes it all even worse :shifty:

I don't think D'Elles was ever meant to score big, I think it already did better than expected...the English album and her plans to tour again are what they will focus on. From what I've heard they are going to put everything they have on that one and that it's going to be one of the biggest Sony albums of 2007, but even with the english album and promotion I think we should be extremely happy if it sells 10 million worldwide.

How anyone can say that "D'elles was never meant to sell big" is beyond me.

Record companies release albums for one reason only - TO MAKE MONEY!! It's a fact that if new artists albums don't sell then they get dropped from the label. Why? Because the record company hasn't made any money out of them.

Celine and Sony continue to release records because they want to make money, let's not get away from that fact.

Point is, with Sony doing more and Celine promoting her work they could be making much more than they are doing.

that's right shaun . now the question is - r they THAT stupid? i mean do the people at sony cant understand this simple fact? :glare:

i still believe she should be able to sell more than anyone else.so if she can't sell 20or30 million its because noone can, right?

if Kelly sold 11million i think Celine should too

Sony has always made the wrong choice when it comes to chosing singles from a Celine album. It's happened since the release of her first English album Unison. And yet, she managed to sell more album than any other female artists. Isn't that Ironic??

Those days are over for anyone, not just Celine. Records don't sell that much anymore because of illegal internet downlaods. So if anyone is expecting Celine to pull it off again with her forthcoming English album, they sould remove their blinders right now :giggle:

i dont get the all "the industry has changed" explenation...it's not like all artists used to sell 30 million albums back then - celine always sold more than most artists in the world and with the right promotion she can do it again . not 30 million copies but around 15 million is possible .

having said that i know who we r dealing with and her next album is probably gonna sell around 3 million copies worldwide :glare:

Several artists were elling over 20 million copies of an album when Celine was selling 20-30 million. Shania, Britney, Mariah, Alanis, *Nsync, Backstreet Boys, etc.

Now look at how Timberlake is selling... and he's got a few #1s all over the world. Or look at Nelly Furtado's numbers.

It's not only an opinion, it's a fact that record sales dropped severly in the few past years. So to expect someone to sell as much as they did (not just Celine, but anyone) is ignoring the facts.

Celine could sell 15 millions with a few #1 singles. But without radio presence, it's not gonna happen no matter how much she promotes the album. It needs either to have a constant presence on the airwaves (radio or TV) or a massive media blitz à la Nora Jones circa 2002.

Posted

When it comes to D'elles, it would be a hit for the album if it can reach 3 million copies or more 'cos that would mean D'elles has more more than most of Celine's french albums. But how about buying 2 albums for each Celine Dion fan? It might become the 2nd biggest selling francophone album in music history, just behind D'eux.(",)

But if Celine Dion's english album is promoted well and the songs she will release are really cool that they're heavily played on music televisions and radios ( like It's All Coming Back To Me Now, Because You loved Me and My Heart Will Go On ), I'm pretty sure Celine can sell 30 million again.

OMG!! :w00t: Celine's new English album is on top of the list for "20 most anticipated albums of 2007" in India compiled by The Record Magazine, June 2007 issue.

Here is what the magazine says about the album:

"...Celine is a no one-hit wonder. Everyone knows her to be the big-voiced Diva who gave Titanic the 'My Heart Will Go On' push. With seven #1 hit singles in India and four #1 albums, it is beyond doubt that Celine is the best selling female foreign artist in India and if she continues this sales trend, Celine will cross the sales of over 1.5 million sales in India and be the #1 foreign artist beating out Bryan Admas who has sold over 1.5 million albums. With a new French album D'elles doing wonders in French-speaking countries, the new English album is what is needed from this super Diva. Expected to be released towards the end of October, 2007 this new english album is full of promises and from sources, we have heard that this album is going to put Celine on top once more. When asked, Sony Music India said that they have no intentions of releasing D'elles in India yet....but who knows, once the new english album is in the market, Sony BMG may re-package it and release it (this is what they did with D'eux).

So this is our #1 most-anticipated album of 2007. Watch this album rock the market like what it did with A New Day Has come and One Heart.

Here is a glimpse of how much Dion sold in India till December, 2006.

Falling Into You - 150,000

Let's Talk About Love - 400,000

All The Way...A Decade Of Songs - 200,000

A New Day Has Come - 250,000

One Heart - 150,000

Miracle - 50,000

*This list is just an estimation. The true numbers are elusive due to the piracy*

If any Indian artist had these numbers, they would have achieved what Ms. Dion has achieved. "

Guys, even though I tried posting the link, I just can't seem to. Somebody please help!!

Yup. I wil try to get to chart run but will have to do a lot of research on the web and go through the old issues of The Record Magazine.

But here are the number ones:

#1 albums in India

Let's Talk About Love - #1 (3 weeks) highest selling Celine album in India and cetified Gold (should be Platinum)

All The Way...A Decade Of Songs - #1 (1 week)

A New Day Has Come - #1 (2 weeks) should be certified Gold

One Heart - #1 (whopping 4 weeks)

#1 Singles in India

The Power Of Love - #1 (1 week)

It's All Coming Back To Me Now - #1 (1 week)

My Heart Will Go On - #1 (10 weeks)

That's The Way It Is - #1 (5 weeks)

A New Day Has Come - #1 (3 weeks)

I'm Alive - #1 (1 week)

I Drove All Night - #1 (5 weeks on Video charts), #2 (7 weeks Radio charts)

January and February 1998 - Artist Of The Month - Music World India

April and May 2002 - Artist Of The Month - Channel [V] and MTV India

April 2003 - Artist of The Month - Channel [v]

------------------------------------------------------

Forget the petitions, its useless even contacting Sony BMG India. :nono:

The only artists they are concerned with right now are Simon Webbe (ex-BLUE member) and Shakira. :ermm:

Shakira is selling like hotcakes here after her concert here in India. Someday I fear that she is gonna overtake Celine on the sales. Shakira is the second highest selling international female artist in India right now with sales over 700,000 copies.

But atleast Mariah Carey is nowhere here in India...she's sold only about 200.000 copies :whistling:

Mmhmm...I know and its a good thing she left SonyBMG :giggle: .....I REALLY wish that Celine would do that someday :shifty:

D'elles is just holding onto the charts only and only because its a CELINE DION album. :thumbsup2:

With the very little promotion it got (getting), it had to languish at the charts

C'mon Sony, we desperately need A Cause on the radio now  and maybe a super hot video sometime next month :w00t:
