Del Posted November 17, 2007 at 11:01 AM Posted November 17, 2007 at 11:01 AM Dion concert cancelled, officials at a loss print this articleBY JIM REYNO, TRANSCONTINENTAL MEDIAThe Nova Scotia Business Journal What do you mean, the venue won’t do? City officials don’t believe an inadequate Halifax Common is the reason Celine Dion’s promoter cancelled the singer’s scheduled Aug. 23 concert. “Following discussions with various professionals and experts, it was agreed that the venue is not appropriate for the concert’s elaborate production needs and would not satisfy the best interests of Celine Dion’s public,” Gillett Entertainment Group said in a media release yesterday. “Yeah, well, that’s interesting,” HRM spokesman John O’Brien said with a laugh after being read the release. “One would think that, obviously, they know the kind of show it’s going to be. All of the sudden it’s on, and then it’s off. From our point of view, there was the announcement 10 days ago, and then for them to come back and say, ‘Well, it’s not suitable.’ I guess that would raise some questions.” Mayor Peter Kelly couldn’t figure it out, either. “As I understand, she brings her own stage, it’s their own process,” said Kelly, adding that Gillett approached the city about a Dion concert through Events Halifax. “So if it’s the stage, then to me that doesn’t make sense. The Gillett Group have been here. They’ve seen the Common. They were very impressed with its potential. They seemed to be very proactive in choosing that location for a concert.” Downtown Coun. Dawn Sloane, too, wondered about the sudden staging concerns. “I’m a little shocked,” she said. “Typically, for a concert of that magnitude … I would say that should be taken into consideration before you even ask if that individual can be there.” News of the cancellation came quickly. The Daily News received an e-amil from Gillett at 3:36 p.m. When reached shortly after, Scott Ferguson said Events Halifax learned of the cancellation within the hour. “There’s not much I can say about it. It’s Gillett’s call,” a dejected Ferguson said. “I guess they reviewed the site and decided that it wouldn’t work, given her production needs. I guess that’s all there is to say. I’m disappointed for sure. Again, I have to respect their position.” The Gillett Group didn’t return phone calls by story deadline. -- The Daily Newshttp://www.novascotiabusinessjournal.com/i...1093&sc=107 There's no words to describe how disappointed I am or was when I heard the news yesterday. Although I did fear this news on thursday when I no longer saw Halifax on the tour list. Quote Instagram: @delphis78
Prince Whiskers Posted November 17, 2007 at 12:24 PM Posted November 17, 2007 at 12:24 PM Don't be surprised by that Halifax cancellation. The venue is a mosh pit more appropriate for rowdy acts and crowds. We can't expect Celine fans to be rolling through the mud, can we? LOLAnyway, I have a feeling that the Monte Carlo shows are going to have the most outrageous ticket prices. That's where Celine is going to have her, um, most intriguing audiences. Royal figures, big-time CEO's, the most expensive hookers in the world, Hollywood vacationers, tax evaders, shady operators. Del Posted November 17, 2007 at 01:53 PM Posted November 17, 2007 at 01:53 PM The promoters knew about the site when they booked it so if it wasn't appropriate then they wouldn't have booked it. Plus there's a 10 thousand seat arena just down the street where she's performed 5 different times. I mean the center in Winnipeg seats about 13 thousand... not that must more and she's going there. I don't think it was right of them to announce the concert and then cancel it. Plus the official site didn't bother to mention it. Quote Instagram: @delphis78
Dionesque Posted November 17, 2007 at 02:02 PM Posted November 17, 2007 at 02:02 PM I think the reason why the oncert is being cancelled isn't the capacity of the venue but some other technical specifications of the venue. Still, they should know all the specifications when choosing the venues so it's indeed strange to put a venue on the list and then remove it a few weeks later... Prince Whiskers Posted November 17, 2007 at 02:33 PM Posted November 17, 2007 at 02:33 PM I'm very curious about those so-called production needs. By the way, I had been reading comments on news articles regarding the Halifax gig and some idiotic rock-loving types were threatening to riot around the area on the night Celine was supposed to perform. When the concert was announced there was a very negative response from the people in the city. They cannot stand to see something come to the city they they don't like. So when acts or something is proposed for the city and they don't like it all they do is complain till it's cancelled. THAT'S why Celine cancelled because people complained she was coming. It's a shame because those who love her aren't going to be able to see her now. I mean if you don't like a concert don't go to it and shut up. Quote Instagram: @delphis78

Dionesque Posted November 17, 2007 at 03:41 PM Posted November 17, 2007 at 03:41 PM Tbat sounds really insane and I'm so sorry for you about this!!! But do you mean it seriously?! I mean, is it possible that Céline cancels her show because of a few idiots in the city?? Every "normal" person would think that when he/she doesn't like the artist, he/she simply won't buy tickets for this event and not complain this way!! And I'm sure otherwise there would be big demand and they could easely fill this venue!... Very strange... I hope for you that there will be a show in Halifax added later! Dionesque Posted November 17, 2007 at 06:15 PM Posted November 17, 2007 at 06:15 PM I'm happy for you guys who are going to Montréal gig(s)!!! I guess it will be huge - that's the city in Northern America where I'd looooove to see her - in her home province! About the entire presale, I think there are many bad things, not only about TeamCeline.... 1) For concert in Köln TeamCeline offered only not-so-good seats - aside and starting from 8th row... 2) General presale for Amsterdam was the biggest disastar in my opinion!!! I haven't heard of anyone who got better seats in general presale than 8th row in A section and these were gone almost immediately plus there were huge problems with the site, incl. rejecting valid and good credit cards.... TERRIBLE service!!!... I'm happy I'm actually done with my tickets now, I will only buy more if there will be some concerts added in destinations we haven't got a concert in already, otherwise my personal "tour dates" are just closed. Kay Posted November 17, 2007 at 06:26 PM Posted November 17, 2007 at 06:26 PM I just saw that Celine was coming to The Palace of Auburn Hills and mom is up in the kitchen washing dishes and I went "Mommy Celine is coming to Michigan I have to go! I'm getting tickets and I'll pay you don't have to. Ok?" and she goes "What if your mother already got tickets?" and I SCREAMED and ran up and hugged her and she was like "Well I can't take you if I'm DEAD!" So basically I'm the happiest person EVER on the face of the earth right now...except that the show in Halifax was cancelled so now my friend can't go see her. That REALLY sucks. I'm praying another east coast date will be added! I can't believe Celine wouldn't play ANY shows over there. Not really a huge fan of her management team right now.
