What she needs is credibility and not pretension of being the next best ho a la Mariah Carey or Britney Spears. They got success cuzz they're hos. Simple, cheap, commercial, lip-synching silicon bags. Nothing more. Yet Céline is more than that and she will sing songs with class not with cheap appeal like some of her peers.

This performance of Summertime (from Porgy & Bess, Gershwin) was one of the best live performances that I have seen from her. This performance of this song was much better than the one she did in the early 90th. I love the way that Celine do and I really hope a Jazzalbum came out soon.

You need to get your facts straight. Puh-leeeese...David Foster produces both Celine and Renee so I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't David Foster's idea to "steal" Renee's style for this song.

 

Celine gave a better performance than Renee. Also, Renee shoudl be flattered that Celine chose this to for the telethon!

I pointed this out on Classic Whitney two days ago. I was really shocked to discover that. Celine's voice is obviously better, there's no point in pointing that out. I still don't see why she had to copy that rendition. It doesn't matter if David produces for both, Celine didn't need to sing all the same runs and adlibs, regardless of the arrangement.

 

I'm a Celine fan, but that doesn't mean I can't criticize her every now and then. She's a diva and should show it!

Can you imagine if Celine fans complained every time another singer sang Because You Loved Me the same way as Celine or My Heart Will Go On? This video is pathetic. Some songs are meant to be sung a certain way and I'm sure Renee borrowed from the dozens of others who sang this song over the years too.

Exactly! People have been singing this song since 1935 and you're telling me Renee is the first one to sing it that particular way? Get out! And you know what? It's for charity. Celine helped raise over $61 million singing this song on the Jerry Lewis telethon so she could have sang it in Renne's dress and underwear for all I care, she did a good job.

Like many of you have mentioned before... it's just an arrangement of the song. And my gosh, CELINE owned that stage that evening with this performance, and she did it with divine presence, big heart, and compassion. This telethon raised the record $61 mill. Don't you dare compare BIG, HOT MOMMA Celine to ANYBODY!

It was a little bit disappointing to find that clip on youtube.

 

I know it perhaps was a bit naive of me to think it was a new rendition, when it's such an old song and all, but taking a such recent rendition...

 

It's just sad that's all, I would like to see Céline expressing her own original reneditions. And I saw some people on youtube blamed this on David Foster... Perhaps. I would hope she wouldn't work with either Foster nor Goldman in a while. New perspectives is well needed.

 

And jazz album would be super of course, but the main risk is it will be too similar to other artists' "dinner albums". And it wouldn't sell much so everyone would see it as a flop even though the quality of the album would be quite good. My big hopes are that she'll take jazz and blues into a "new" sound of popular music, music with a little edge. Something similar to - I never thought I'd say this - Christina Auguilera's Ain't No Other Man, although less screamy and more soulful... - by the way how many more than me thinks this song was meant for Whitney Houston?

No, he told me this year he has worked only on Renee Olstead and Peter Cincotti new albums, on 9 tracks for the upcoming Josh Groban album and on Katherine McPhee single. He is a VERY reliable source.

I love Celine's performance. Who cares that it is similar to another artist approach on the song. That doesn't matter. The fact is how she sang the song and how she sounded. She sounded wonderful. It was something different which is what we all wanted.

 

You know if people are going to complain about her singing Summertime the way she did, she might has well have sang If I Could. No wonder Celine gets frustrated with fans opinions. I think she has the most opinionated fans that are really hard to please. We wanted her to sing somthing different, so she did. She likes Renee Olsted (not sure how to spell her name) so why not sing a song from an artist she likes. If nothing else it is a compliment to Renee that Celine Dion sang one of her songs....or one of David Fosters arrangements that Renee sang.
