Javito Posted September 9, 2006 at 11:56 AM Posted September 9, 2006 at 11:56 AM Although I love Céline's voice, I still think that it isn't the moment to sing that kind of songs . She needs a new english album with pop, rock and uptempo songs! (another ANDHC for example would be great). But no more slow and sleepy ballads please Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

They got success cuzz they're hos. Simple, cheap, commercial, lip-synching silicon bags. Nothing more. Yet Céline is more than that and she will sing songs with class not with cheap appeal like some of her peers. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg

TomH. Posted September 9, 2006 at 07:09 PM Posted September 9, 2006 at 07:09 PM This performance of Summertime (from Porgy & Bess, Gershwin) was one of the best live performances that I have seen from her. This performance of this song was much better than the one she did in the early 90th. I love the way that Celine do and I really hope a Jazzalbum came out soon. Quote

Puh-leeeese...David Foster produces both Celine and Renee so I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't David Foster's idea to "steal" Renee's style for this song. Celine gave a better performance than Renee. Also, Renee shoudl be flattered that Celine chose this to for the telethon!(reply to this) smeagollum (2 hours ago)Wow, Celine really wipes the floor with her! You realise how much nicer Celine's vocal tone is compared to Renee when you hear them side by side like this.(reply to this) dragonleader (2 hours ago)i prefer Celine's.(reply to this) ibelieveinyou222 (1 hour ago)Dude, I just flagged you, you loser! HOW DARE you compare a little girl to Celine Dion - THE GREATEST Singer on EARTH? Celine can sing WHATEVER she wants!(reply to this) Rosannasfriend (1 hour ago)I pointed this out on Classic Whitney two days ago. I was really shocked to discover that. Celine's voice is obviously better, there's no point in pointing that out. I still don't see why she had to copy that rendition. It doesn't matter if David produces for both, Celine didn't need to sing all the same runs and adlibs, regardless of the arrangement. I'm a Celine fan, but that doesn't mean I can't criticize her every now and then. She's a diva and should show it!(reply to this) smeagollum (1 hour ago)Can you imagine if Celine fans complained every time another singer sang Because You Loved Me the same way as Celine or My Heart Will Go On? This video is pathetic. Some songs are meant to be sung a certain way and I'm sure Renee borrowed from the dozens of others who sang this song over the years too.(reply to this) nippyprice (1 hour ago)fyi: that arrangement is a classic arrangement of summertime that sarah vaughan did in the 1960's and many people have done that very arrangment.(reply to this) colorsofthewind (2 minutes ago)AMEN!(reply to this) Rosannasfriend (2 minutes ago)were all the adlibs the same? Cause that's the most glaring similarity here.(reply to this) smeagollum (1 hour ago)Exactly! People have been singing this song since 1935 and you're telling me Renee is the first one to sing it that particular way? Get out! And you know what? It's for charity. Celine helped raise over $61 million singing this song on the Jerry Lewis telethon so she could have sang it in Renne's dress and underwear for all I care, she did a good job.(reply to this) celinegroup (18 minutes ago)How funny... because celine sang this song almost 10 years ago on "Ad Lib" too! ROTFLMAO. I think you need to find something else to complain about.(reply to this) dreamdreamdream (6 minutes ago)Thank you for the information, Nippy Price.culturemp3dotcom, GO GET A BLEEPIN' LIFE! Oh... wait, you don't got one, you nosepicking, videoediting, couch-potatoe geek!(reply to this) colorsofthewind (2 minutes ago)Like many of you have mentioned before... it's just an arrangement of the song. And my gosh, CELINE owned that stage that evening with this performance, and she did it with divine presence, big heart, and compassion. This telethon raised the record $61 mill. Don't you dare compare BIG, HOT MOMMA Celine to ANYBODY!(reply to this) ibelieveinyou222 (35 seconds ago)LMAOOOOO!!!! You removed the comments???? TOO PAINFUL??? poorbaby... fred Posted September 10, 2006 at 02:57 PM Posted September 10, 2006 at 02:57 PM (edited) It was a little bit disappointing to find that clip on youtube. I know it perhaps was a bit naive of me to think it was a new rendition, when it's such an old song and all, but taking a such recent rendition... It's just sad that's all, I would like to see Céline expressing her own original reneditions. And I saw some people on youtube blamed this on David Foster... Perhaps. I would hope she wouldn't work with either Foster nor Goldman in a while. New perspectives is well needed. And jazz album would be super of course, but the main risk is it will be too similar to other artists' "dinner albums". And it wouldn't sell much so everyone would see it as a flop even though the quality of the album would be quite good. My big hopes are that she'll take jazz and blues into a "new" sound of popular music, music with a little edge. Something similar to - I never thought I'd say this - Christina Auguilera's Ain't No Other Man, although less screamy and more soulful... - by the way how many more than me thinks this song was meant for Whitney Houston? /fred Edited September 10, 2006 at 03:15 PM by fred Quote Peace and love to all.

kdw123 Posted September 11, 2006 at 04:36 AM Posted September 11, 2006 at 04:36 AM I love Celine's performance. Who cares that it is similar to another artist approach on the song. That doesn't matter. The fact is how she sang the song and how she sounded. She sounded wonderful. It was something different which is what we all wanted. You know if people are going to complain about her singing Summertime the way she did, she might has well have sang If I Could. No wonder Celine gets frustrated with fans opinions. I think she has the most opinionated fans that are really hard to please. We wanted her to sing somthing different, so she did. She likes Renee Olsted (not sure how to spell her name) so why not sing a song from an artist she likes. If nothing else it is a compliment to Renee that Celine Dion sang one of her songs....or one of David Fosters arrangements that Renee sang. Quote

Bellamy Posted September 17, 2006 at 05:20 AM Author Posted September 17, 2006 at 05:20 AM Celine @ Jerry Lewis on Hello Magazine? Which issue? 'INFLUENTIAL' CELINE DOES HER BIT FOR CHARITY IN VEGAS When Celine Dion gave a show-stopping performance for a good cause over the weekend Rene Angelil, her number one fan and husband of 11 years was - as always - at her side. The Canadian chanteuse, who appears in a sell-out show on the Vegas Strip, was one of the star guests taking time out to help raise funds for charity during the annual Labor Day Telethon hosted by legendary comedian Jerry Lewis. And combining motherhood with a hugely successful music career has clearly proved a winning formula for the svelte singer, who shows no signs of slowing down after more than two decades in the business. Dressed in an elegant white halter-neck gown that showed off her svelte physique, the talented mum of one - son Rene-Charles is now five-years-old - pulled out all the stops for the 21-hour TV variety show. Her performance proved that the 38-year-old chanteuse still has what it takes to stay at the top. Indeed, a recent poll named the Quebec-born star as one of the 100 most influential names in showbiz, placing her in 24th position on the list, above actor Tom Hanks.http://www.hellomagazine.com/canada/2006/09/04/celinedion/imgs/celine-dop1a.jpgCeline and husband Rene, who celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary in December, looked as devoted to each other as ever at the weekend benefit http://www.hellomagazine.com/canada/2006/09/04/celinedion/imgs/celine-dop2a.jpgThe Canadian chanteuse was a vision in white as she performed some of her hits in aid of charity during the live telethon Source: http://www.hellomagazine.com/canada/2006/09/04/celinedion/ Quote Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link Click here.
