Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon 2006 Back in Vegas

 

TUCSON, Ariz., August 1, 2006 – The Muscular Dystrophy Association’s 2006 Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon will be broadcast live from the South Coast Hotel in Las Vegas, Sept. 3-4. The Telethon’s national broadcast returns to “the entertainment capital of the world” after a 12 years of origination from Hollywood.

 

The South Coast’s 22,000-square-foot ballroom will be home to the 21½-hour live

television event which reaches nearly 50 million viewers in the United States and Canada via 190 television stations in MDA’s “Love Network,” and is available to millions more worldwide, thanks to Real Networks, on the Internet at www.mda.org.

The national show airs from 9 p.m. EDT Sunday, Sept. 3, to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4. Broadcast times vary; local listings will show start times and stations.

 

Comedy legend Jerry Lewis, MDA’s national chairman and star of its world-renowned

Telethon, is ready to light up the tote board from his hometown. The Telethon also will feature live remotes from New York and Chicago.

 

“I’m absolutely thrilled that we’re bringing the Telethon back to the bright lights of Las Vegas and the great people of this city,” said Lewis, a longtime Las Vegas resident.

btw, I'm not sure if we should share a better quality version of "If I Could" (short blonde hair) from the 2003 telethon. The other version is from Sophoan who used a digital camera to record it.

ANDHC would be great, but I doubt they would broadcast that song live from the show for the teleton since it is the opening of the show and it wouldn't really fit since Celine usually talks before she sings. But it would fit if she goes to the telethon live and sings there. I guess we will see in a few weeks. My prediction is that she will sing ATW.

Are you kidding? I think there are many people who'd love to see this performance!! Céline looked great that day with her short haircut and it's really hard to watch Sophoan's version over and over again, 'cause you'll get crazy

I guess it's been confirmed Celine will be on this years Jerry lewis telethon!! That is awesome!! I'm excited to see Celine doing it. She's been on it several times already. Can you believe it, it's been almost 10 years since she sang To Love You More on it!! Unbelievable. Where has the time gone?

Jerry Lewis will tap a rich vein of local talent when his Muscular Dystrophy telethon returns to Las Vegas for the first time in 12 years.

 

Joining Lewis from 6 p.m. Sept. 3 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at the South Coast will be resident headliners Louie Anderson, Lance Burton, Celine Dion, Clint Holmes and Rita Rudner. Barry Manilow, whose double hip surgery will keep him home, will send a tape.

 

Also invited: cast members of “Phantom: The Vegas Spectacular,” ventriloquist Ronn Lucas, comedian Max Alexander and members of The Coasters, Platters and Drifters.

 

Co-anchoring with Lewis will be Ed McMahon. Co-hosts include Jann Carl, Tom Bergeron, Norm Crosby, Billy Gilman, Larry King, Tony Orlando and Bob Zany.

 

The on-air talent includes Paul Anka, Goo Goo Dolls, Lee Greenwood, Dave Matthews Band, Neil Patrick Harris, Ray Romano, William Shatner, Patti LaBelle, BeBe Winans, Brian McKnight, Branford Marsalis, George Clinton and members of the casts of Phantom of the Opera, Shout, The 25th Annual Putnum County Spelling Bee, The Color Purple and the Wedding Singer. There will be segments from New York, Chicago and the Tournament of Kings at the Excalibur.

AS VEGAS, NV, United States (UPI) -- Jerry Lewis` annual telethon in Las Vegas will be part of an expansive nationwide effort this year to raise funds to fight muscular dystrophy.

 

Organizers of the Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon said that, while the Labor Day Weekend event will feature the usual assortment of celebrities and business and civic leaders, it will also work in conjunction with thousands of MDA fund-raising events across the nation.

 

The grassroots events are scheduled to take place in several U.S. cities at locales including bowling alleys, malls, racetracks and parks.

 

All of the events -- along with the 41st annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon -- are intended to help raise funds for research and treatment of the over 40 neuromuscular diseases the Muscular Dystrophy Association focuses on.

 

Celebrities scheduled to appear on the televised fundraiser include actress Julia Roberts, 'Star Trek' and 'Boston Legal' star William Shatner, singers Patti LaBelle and Celine Dion and the Goo Goo Dolls.

The only reason we want Céline to sing with PAtti live is that she would have to SCREAM like she has NEVER EVER screamed in her life when singing with PAtti. They would both kill the whole audience with their screamings. OMG I so want that to happen. Both are termendous singers with great songs. That would be a great opportunity for them.

patti sounds much better than celine this days , eventho she is much older - i believe she will steal the show and will oversing celine so i'm not sure about it...

i remmember that feeling when beyonce sang with celine "emotions" and celine was like a background vocalist for her , now celine's voice is in even worse condition .

 

in her glory days noone had more powerful voice but this days she can barely hold a note and i still dont know what happened to her famous vibrato - it disappeared completly.

 

she is still an amazing singer ofcours and she can scream like hell but it's just screams ...i miss the vibrato and the long notes and not those high and weird things she is doing.
