This isn't an ordinary test... It's a very important one. I MUST pass it if I wanna study in USA... Kind of scary!

I'll check what kind of questions they ask, then I'll see if I need precisions

If I remember well I have to get at least 80 out of 120!

If I don't reach that score, I won't be able to go! And if I reach it, I'm not even sure to go, because there is a lot of other people who wanna go too!

There is a part where I'll have to listen and prove I understood, and another one where I'll have to write a little text...

So it's not easy to train on that, but I'm especially working on grammar things...

You have a point, it's hard for me to say because I learnt from a small child, but I guess you would need to hear a lot of accents to get yours right? Especially in French, words get pronounced differently depending on where the person comes from, and even the liason changes depending on the accent.

i use VERY simple grammar when writing essays its hard to go wrong when you use simple stuff

Both The Daily Mail and The Daily Mirror are both considered to be right-wing newspapers, especially the Daily Mail. Yes, they are British, too.

 

The Tarmac (macadam?) is a black road base, in this instance, it refers to the landing strip at the airport, because it is made out of tarmac.

Bubbling (bouillonnement) refers to the fact that the debate between Royalists and Republicans is lively, il y a beaucoup de gens qui ont des avis forts, qui est comme l'eau avec beaucoup de bulles dans lui, il se bouge beaucoup, très animé et en activité. Compris?

 

Bemused (stupéfié) means that the people are confused and dumbfounded, i.e. Confus, incertain

 

To Dump (décharger) in this case means getting rid of something, getting rid of the Monarchy, but dump usually means to throw something away, like garbage.

 

Simmering is a cooking word, like when something boils, and then you turn it down, so it is just beneath/below the boil, in this scenario, it has been used to imply that the argument was very lively (boiling) but now has calmed down, (simmering) but could come back to the boil at any moment.

Again, bubbling means that the argument is still active and alive. "Bubbles under the surface" means that the argument is not in the open, or on the surface of the water, meaning that it is still a big issue that many people have strong feelings about, but the arguement has died down recently, so it is not as big a public debate as before, but it could be again.

The Australian government wants to take the right of workers to be able to challenge their boss if s/he fires them. By taking away the unfair dismissal tribunal, it means that employers could fire someone for a bad reason, and that person can do nothing about it, it also means that employers can threaten workers with being fired if they don't do something that the employer tells them to do, without any warnings.

 

also, the term is "Labour market reforms" not just "Market reforms" a 'Market' in this case, refers to the "Job Market" and it is a term that refers to peoples jobs and employment/unemployment etc. The government wants to make it harder for constructions workers to strick and wants to take away their unions and job security. A reform, is when the government changes something, a peice of legislation or policy.
