It depends on the hospital and on how big it is but there always administration departments such as purchse, communications, computers and tech support, as well as finance and marketing. Also, there are sometimes training centers or research centers as well, and of course working in an actual department (let's say as a secretary or an assistant of some sort) doesn't neccesary mean that you see patients and people in a bad condition. sometimes it's only administratory. When I started I was the secretary of the director of the trauma unit. my office was physically inside the ER and I never really saw patients (excapt for people walking around which are not critical patients).
