Here's some highlights : Linda Perry says Celine doesnt know how to say no, how to stop and be just Celine. Celine breaks down crying during the song recording because she releaizes how the song really is about her and how she has forgotten about herself over these 25 years. She has to stop the session and Linda says she knows that the song is brutal but thats why she wrote it for her. Celine explains how she really hasn't stopped and thought only of herself enough. I was crying right along with her. I will upload the video in a minute (if I can figure it out)!! EDIT : Linda makes Celine sing the bridge of the song while she's crying!! Maybe the fact that Celine really connects with this song is what makes it stand out so much... Linda Perry did great work on this album. She was definitely right for Celine... However, I'm not sure I like her approach : bring Celine to tears and make her sing! She definitley seems to be a bit of a ball-buster and very intimidating. Not sure Celine was expecting that! I won't say they didn't get on personally but I doubt Celine will be having Linda round for tea anytime soon! But who cares as long as they make records together! Your_Su_Phu Posted March 3, 2008 at 07:20 PM Posted March 3, 2008 at 07:20 PM (edited) I disagree, the lyrics are more emotional and gritty than a lot of her work, and it does sound christina-esque to my ears. lyrics for "my love" are simple yet affecting, in fact more affecting because they are simple. i think there's a big difference between simple vs banal. something banal would be "because you loved me". If I'm honest, I don't really consider Celine's songs to be lyrically rich in general. That's probably because first I hear the melody and the arrangement and then, but not always, I consider the lyrics.I'm not saying Celine sings banal songs but, 9 times out of 10, I'm moved by the music and her vocal performance, before I'm moved by the lyrics. Anyway, I've always liked My Love even though I never really heard the words. When I heard Celine talking about the song and how much it meant to her I decided to actually listen to it properly, paying attention to the words: 'But lately, I'm sorry, I can't hold a smile''But I stand tall to get by, No matter how hard I try to hide''Did you know I'd take the time for you... (How) Did you know that I would play the part?I must've made it clear right from the start.' Okay, not exactly earth-shattering or profound, but then a song doesn't need to be in order to have an impact. If these are the words that moved Celine to tears maybe there is something in them. A comment on her relationship with Rene, or her career perhaps, or both? I don't know. But whatever the reason, this song really showcases Celine's voice and is certainly one of the best on the album.
