On January 12, 2008 Celine Dion taped a new CBS Special, aired on February 15, 2008 on CBS in the USA and on CTV in Canada. On this special Celine performed the song "The prayer" in duet with famous singer Josh Groban. This live recording of "The Prayer" was released as a digital single on February 12 in Canada and the USA. Celine Dion originally recorded this song in a solo version with the name "A mother´s pray" and then in duet with Andrea Bocelli, song wich was inlucded on Celine´s album "These Are Special Times" of 1998. A single of the duet with Bocelli was released as a single too in 1998. And in 2002 Celine performed the song with Josh Groban by first time during "The Concer For World´S Children Day".

Wasn't the solo version recorded like... 5 years later, for Miracle? At least that was the first time I heard it.

There are two solo versions. One recorded for the movie Quest of Camelot and one for the Miracle album (under the name A Mother's Prayer). These two are almost the same...

They perform this together at the Grammy Awards 1999 Feb 24, you can watch it here . This is when Josh gets in the picture, he stands in at the rehersal for Bocelli who had fell ill. The performance is lipped most likely to Bocelli still not fully recovered.

 

They perform this together at the Oscars, as the song being nominated for Best Song, 1999 March 21, it was a wonderful live performance and you can watch it here, too bad about the low quality however.

Wow! Thanks for the information. That really is quite a story for one song!

And thanks for the links too. I remember seeing the Grammy performance on TV and i guessed that it was playback.

But I have never seen the Oscars performance before. I didn't even know it existed! What an incredible performance! Thanks a lot for the link!

I have both of Celine's solo versions but have never heard Andrea'a solo - will definitely have to check that out.

 

I had heard rumours that Celine and Josh Groban had performed the song together before the World Children's Day concert when he stood in for Andrea. But I thought it was an actual performance rather than just a rehearsal. So was the WCD concert their first public performance of the song?

I'm still crossing my fingers that I will be able to see it...'cause I get a Channel that's split CBS/VOA (Voice Of America)....and they alternate the programming so....let's just hope the Special shows in it's entirety..... it's so annoying sometimes during the commercial breaks they show this awful pink slide by my cable company showing just CBS/VOA and the audio starts you know the show is already on...but can't see a thing

well of course you can be a huge fan of Céline without even ever saw her in concert... but what I meant was that reporter is FROM vegas....now if you were to live in vegas, and you were a huge fan... wouldn't you have gone to at least a show a year?

 

I'm not setting the basic rules for fanship.....but I can't stand people who say 'ooooh I'm a huge fan' and they only have 2 albums, or doesn't even know she's from Canada... or what the name of her son is

 

 

BTW I hope SBS will broadcast this special... they broadcasted AND so I think they will

Good point Davey, I agree with you. I would add that you can be a fan and also have a critical and objective point of view, like I do.

I haven't seen Celine in concert, just because I can't afford the travelling, that's it.

I see that Sony's concept is not really to promote a particular album of Celine, but to find ways to cash in on her popularity - through various ways. She's one of the few singers today that still sells her albums well, all over the world. Even her older albums keep selling. She's timeless.

Maybe not everyone's in the financial state where they can drop 100 bucks on concert tickets every year. If somone only has 2 cds, but loves them to death I'd say they were a huge fan. Not everyone has to own every Celine release and know what her farts smell like to be a huge fan.
