CONFESSION TIME:

 

It was 11:58PM, I was inside of.... Lo and Behold: WALMART

 

WALMART!

I went to the music section to find the "Taking Chances" Walmart Plastic Double CD/DVD Exclusive Smiley Face Package!

 

none. nada. nothing.

 

They had so many of those "exclusive" CD/DVD packages of Chris Brown and Maya (I don't hink you know these people )

 

 

So, I went to the counter and asked and they said that they'll stock the CDs in the morning at 5AM. LOL

 

As I was walking out, I spoke to some Filipino ladies who worked there (SUCH SWEETHEARTS, btw ), and they were like... "Let's see if we can help you." So, one of them pulled me by the hand and yanked me over to the music section.

 

I was like.. "No, no, no. It's okay. There are three people working in that department and there are like 20 people with xbox games in their hands. I don't want to go against the gamers. I'll be back later." :mdr:

 

 

So, no, I did not get the Celine Dion "Taking Chances" Walmart Blue Edition. :whistling:

 

 

 

 

 

Wal-Mart e-mailed me yesterday to say the item was shipped! And I never had to enter a Wal-Mart store.

I don't know if anyone's posted this yet but I went to Walmart at 6 am to get the cd and the bonus DVD is only the very first recording session we saw with Alone, and EOM, etc...So only 40 minutes! Guess we'll have to hope they'll release the rest of the sessions on DVD at a later time, possibly for a rerelease or something!

As her five-year engagement in Vegas nears its end, the record industry looks to her new CD with hope, while her fans circle concert dates on calendars

With her five-year stint performing exclusively in Las Vegas almost complete, Quebec songbird Céline Dion launches a new album today that, combined with an international tour, is set to reacquaint her with a legion of fans worldwide.

 

And with CD sales slumping, the industry is happy to have her back, especially since Dion's fans are more likely to actually buy her CD than download it from the Internet.

 

She's such a commercial force that other artists with new CDs – such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and the Spice Girls – for one reason or another all found other days to release their latest works.

 

Veteran music biz journalist Larry LeBlanc, who has heard an advance copy of Dion's new studio album, Taking Chances – her first major release since 2004 – said he expects it will propel her back into the public consciousness.

 

"It's a really, really good album. It's a much more aggressive album. I wouldn't say it's a rock album, but it certainly has rock rhythms, whereas before she was purely a pop artist," LeBlanc said.

 

"Each album has been a little bit different. She takes chances and not a lot of artists do. Look at the timing of this record ... six weeks before Christmas. I think you'll see very good first-week sales."

 

Details of Dion's 45-date North American concert tour have just been released, kicking off in Boston on Aug. 12 next year. Two concert dates at Toronto's Air Canada Centre are slated for Aug. 27 and 28. A huge outdoor concert is scheduled for Halifax on Aug. 23, as well as a free outdoor show Aug. 22 on the historic Plains of Abraham in Quebec, part of Quebec City's 400th anniversary celebrations next year.

 

The publicity machine is already cranking up for Dion, who got the full Oprah treatment yesterday, complete with film clips of her son and husband and duets with teary-eyed audience members.

 

With her five years of performing at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas set to end next month, there's a genuine curiosity among Dion's fans about the live tour to see "how much of Vegas is coming with her in terms of the show and how it's going to look," LeBlanc said.

 

With record sales industry-wide relatively flat in recent years – in part due to Internet downloading – LeBlanc said Dion is among the few artists who can buck the trend.

 

"What people forget is (Dion) is a world artist and there aren't many that are actually world artists. There are actually only a handful. She sells in every country of the world, she has a huge Asian base, a huge South American base, Europe of course," LeBlanc said.

That is a genuinely fantastic, and fair, article from TheStar.com. Thanks for sharing that Seb.

 

I love the part where it implies all other artists have shifted their release dates to avoid clashing with Celine. That's superb! It's also true to note that whenever Celine releases, or whatever she releases (see Miracle), it will always sell really well around the world. It's good to see the media acknowledging this. Also, Sony UK take note, most Celine fans like to buy the CD and not download - so true.

 

Celine for number 1 in the US? Quite possibly.

Celine Dion's eighth English studio album, 'Taking Chances' is out today in stores and online. Celine has also released six French albums in her career.

ONE is a Australian treasure, the other one of the world's most loved singers - and now Delta Goodrem and Celine Dion are on track for a diva duet when the Grammy Award winning performer arrives in Sydney next year.

 

After she wraps up her flashy five-year residency in Las Vegas in December, Dion yesterday announced she will tour Australia through March and April 2008.

 

The tour announcement is music to Goodrem's ears - not only because she has idolised Dion since childhood, but because the pair's recent musical collaboration means a combined performance is likely when the diva hits town.

 

In a professional and financial boon for the Sydney star, Dion recently recorded a track Goodrem penned for inclusion on the Canadian crooner's comeback album, Taking Chances.

 

Goodrem wrote Eyes On Me last year with Swedish hitmaker Kristian Lundin, but it didn't make it onto her album Delta - with Dion instead taking the opportunity to record it.

 

While both large-lunged ladies are signed to the same record company at Sony BMG, the approach is likely to come from Dion's US management.

 

"It's early days but the opportunity is definitely there - Australia is one of Celine's best selling territories so it would make sense,'' a Sony BMG spokeswoman said.

 

Goodrem met her idol for the first time in January this year, when the pop princess and her boyfriend Bryan McFadden popped backstage for a quick meet and greet following one of Dion's Vegas shows.

 

"Delta is such a huge fan of Celine's and it was a total highlight for her song to be included on the album,'' Goodrem's manager said.

 

"If their schedules allow for it we'll make every effort to connect with Celine - Delta would be beside herself.''
