So the question is…

Is she still a little bit back, as she said last June.

Half back.

Three quarters back.

Or about to be back, back? :)

I don’t know what to think… I used to thing a show would be first thing if she ever returned, now im convinced she’ll do albums first.

She sounds so beautiful. I think it sounds like in 2016 on the  EUS album. It made me happy to hear her sing live again.
Oh yeah, some parts reminded me of that album.

I think recording is her way of prepping for a show.  A show will come. I’m convinced.  Even if it’s like half a dozen Per YEAR.   And  that’s it, she’ll be on stage I’ve not a doubt in my mind.

It sounds like her voice from the past 10 years or so to me. Sounds fine.  Its clear that throat rasp/froggyness that started around 2007 is just part of aging I guess.

Id like to hear one of her classic songs though.  Not Im Alive or A New Day Has Come but something from 90s.

Or maybe SPS?. Most of the people who have SPS can’t even use their vocal cord normally because of the rigidity around it.

We will never know the normal effect of aging on her voice. Cause she experienced SPS before normal ageing. And still managed to build a live career.

I’m honestly happy if we still have the SPS voice from the last 15 years versus ageing cause it s still Celine Dion and it s still the immense interpret and vocalist she is.

I do not understand what some of you are hearing - I think you should clean your ears.

Celine sounded wonderful. Rich tone, pitch perfect, strong lows, heavenly breathy parts. Yes, the voice is a bit condensed due to SPS and there is some nasality, but these do not invalidate the positive aspects of this performance.

This is the most promising thing since the Olympics - a cause for celebration! If she recorded an acoustic album like this, I'd have it on repeat!

I think she sounded good. While nasal on all the vowels, she usually is nasal on all the vowels, so that didn’t surprise me. Plus, it was French. A very nasal language lol. The arrangement also didn’t call for much vocal gymnastics or belting. She’s also near 60, guys. Voices change. While I’m sure some of her vocal changes are due to SPS, you also have to factor in aging. She seemed a little nervous too, which is understandable. But overall, I thought it was a lovely performance. Happy to see and hear her again.

It’s that last line “dee dee dee dee daaaaa” with that perfect vibrato, and her face and reactions afterward that does it for me

Imo her voice is the way it is because of aging. I dont think that curing/treating SPS will make her sound like 2003 or whatever.  I think a lot of people are betting on that and I think they are setting themselves up for disappointment.  Her voice changed every year of the 90s and was already different by the early 2000s before SPS

As the queen of pioneering and conquering a new concert format in Vegas,.. I wonder if she could redefine twitch live stream type concerts where she gets to chill with Scott in a studio, and I pay big, big money to be in that chat lol Posted Image

After seeing Clips of Kelly Clarkson‘s new residency simply titled “studio sessions” … It really had me thinking that could be a perfect avenue for Celine if and when she was ever able to return, the stage is intimate, there’s couches,  rugs on the floor, it really feels as if it’s inside of a recording studio & that type of environment would allow Celine to be comfortable/safe if she was able to perform again. It could also allow for the more relaxed performance/ acoustic experience.

I think Kelly did a great job with this concept.

Gave it a few more listens and watching the video.
I just love it. And I love WATCHING her make music, it's all joy, happiness and love.

How wild would it be if they just continued making some more music and they upload it for us.
You can't tell me they just flew Scott in for just this ;)

And honestly for me, this is all it takes.
Celine, Scott, piano and just having fun and play some music.
I don't need high end performances, fireworks and fancy dresses.

I saw that, but I didn’t take that as anything other than him assuming that homage video was recorded from the palms… I think it’s her personal studio at home… the trim and background of the palms is very distinct.

However Celine was spotted by someone I know in Vegas at the studio at palms last March/April before her Olympic performance.

I watched the clip and enjoyed it for sure. The closest to a live performance with live vocals that we’ve gotten since 2020. I suspect at this point the tone will be an issue, I don’t think it’s realistic to expect her 2011 voice again. It seemed she had more control over her softer tone, which was nice to hear and quite hopeful. Some of the belting still sounded a tad thin, but I expect this could also be a test two figure out if she would be good enough to do a full concert eventually. Even if her tone improves in terms of Belton, she’s probably just so used to being that nasal at this point that it’s second nature to her.

She sounds lovely I think. She’s never gonna sound like she did in the 90s; she’s approaching sixty and she’s battled with a neurological and physical illness throughout the best part of twenty years; the change in technique, which gradually became essentially squeezing out the songs and hoping for the best have probably caused irreparable damage, so I doubt there’s much chance the belt will ever be especially resonant again. Luckily, even her with a damaged voice is far superior to many singers and she is so passionate when she sings that at this stage in her career and her legacy - who cares if it’s technically perfect?

I guess that squeezing singing i have noticed it before during her 2nd residency show. That her voice sounds tense i always say that before that I’ve missed her relaxed singing during A New Day… like she’s very careful with every lyrics she’s singing. I guess SPS really takes that away. I wish she can go back to this relaxed singing.

Listen to A New Day Has Come - A New Day Las Vegas. Bootlegs. You will know what I mean about how relaxed her voice was when singing.

Then, in 2015, you will noticed the tensed singing like instead of “I was waiting” she’s doing it like “Iwaswai—ting”. Like she’s late and wanted to catch up lol

I wonder if her vocal therapy can fix this or maybe she should watch again her old performances that it’s ok to slow down the tempo a little bit to sound more relaxed?

Or maybe she’s having problem with her breathing due to SPS that’s why they’re speeding up the tempo a little bit but yeah it doesn’t sound relaxed in that way.

Oh wow she sounds so good and clean, that's amazing given her condition! After all, she is a song teller in her soul, I don't mind a new album with this exact style all the world will give the bless for that to happen.

Well well well ... I wanted to also give my feedback and two days after the release of the video I still have mix feelings.

First of all, what a surprise and what a PLEASURE to hear Céline and this pleasure is still on, so satisfying to see her happy. BUT I am not as much enthusiastic as many of you regarding her ability of singing.

We love Celine, most of us have "known" Celine all their life so we kind of accept everything that come from her, especially because we know about the disease. But honestly.... would this video have been produced by an anonymous singer, would we fall in love ? I don't think so.

I listen to the song several times. For sure Celine has done a lot of progress and maybe she has worked tougher than we can even imagine to get this result. But is it enough for releasing a quality album ?????. I sometimes make a parallel with my daughter who is disabled and learn pastry to become pastry chef professionally. She works maybe 3 times harder than the others and honestly regarding her disabilities she is doing a great job and improve constantly but at the end of the day, is the quality/ presentation up enough to be sold ? No. Celine seems to do better actually but to me it is enough to make a real comeback soon.

Last point, and I am surprised no one mentioned it in the previous posts I read is the way she looks. She recorded a video for a tribute, just for that she could have dressed up and have her hair done instead of this bun she carries now all the times ( just like women who don't give a F ) . And don't say it's about her disease. She was classy when she went out for Coldplay concert so she could have done an effort for this tribute.
I really don't understand. It's not about turning into fashion queen like she did previous covid period Posted Image Posted Image  but respect yourself and the others. When she took part to "the payer" during the lockdown period, she also sung from her home, but she was dressed up. So I don't understand why she present herself like this when she works.

I agree with everything you said.

Now let’s wait for those people who are going to tell us that we shouldn’t dare criticize Céline for the way she does her hair or the way she dresses—because she has SPS. But you’re right. Even the fact that it’s black and white—I know that it’s related to a death but the tribute itself is a joyous moment. It looks as if someone randomly took out their phone and recorded Céline singing on her couch in her free time, which is strange coming from a woman who dresses up and brings a whole camera crew with a perfect angle and perfect picture just to record a 2 sentence message for some random thing every now and then.
The best is yet to come...

It looks as if someone randomly took out their phone and recorded Céline singing on her couch in her free time, which is strange coming from a woman who dresses up and brings a whole camera crew with a perfect angle and perfect picture just to record a 2 sentence message for some random thing every now and then.

Interesting point about her clothing.

Maybe Celine was indeed in a studio and this performance was just a part of her recordings that day?

She'd usually dress quite casually whenever she recorded in the studio even in the past.

Wishful thinking on my part here Posted Image

I assume she was quite nervous about 'showing herself' again so they purposely created a home environment to make her feel comfortable. The casual outfit may have been part of that.

And if this were some anonymous singer in the streets, I definitely would still be paying attention. I imagine some early nineties fans may feel differently, but as a big fan of her more mature voice, I'm quite happy with what I'm hearing.
