Céline does need to address the pink elephant in the room:  how is she able to perform again on such a grand scale?   With the last scenes of the documentary, we were lead to feel it was pretty hopeless.  It's clear she's made some major advancements.  I'm sure this will come in an interview when she announces her next project but I do get tired of seeing the "I thought she was dying" message on each post.  This needs to be better managed professionally and singing to album version playbacks doesn't help.

I think this performance is setting the direction for her new shows. Less live singing and better production, lighting, etc. I’m fine with it, but at least I hope she will prerecord with her current voice.

I think the end of the documentary was premature,  she should have waited to get more footage of her rehabilitation and return to form before releasing the documentary.
It was such a tear jerker ending with no happy ending that people have many questions about whether she has been misdiagnosed or something because people having real SPS suffer throughout their life with no real cure.
So when you see her back to form on stage with all the triggers that come with it: it is either that she is saving face and waiting to collapse at home or she got misdiagnosed and she had a very light version of SPS to begin with that got cured already.

I do agree with this but I also think that *if* Céline’s voice has changed permanently then she’s also terrified to showcase this.

In the documentary she said that she knew when she went to the studio people were “expecting Celine Dion” so she’ll know the general public, and media, will be expecting the same if and when she announces concerts / albums etc

The documentary set people up to expect that her voice may have changed but then to come back with these “perfect” performances will have confused many.

I just wanted to say that I saw one clip of TPOL and I was like “oh God why is she still lip syncing” she can’t pull that card out at every event. and then I saw another clip of Im Alive on Instagram and now I’m like “did she actually sing?” Almost fooled me… 🤔

The thing is she is excellent at lip syncing, always been, and she can appear to be singing extremely easily. The problem is they used 20-30-year old tracks when her voice was different and it's way too obvious. If they had rerecorded them with her current voice, we wouldn't be able to tell right now. She has been saying she has nothing to prove for many years but because of the disease or rather making it public she has yet to prove she can really sing, more than ever. There is no doubt she can control her body movements with the treatment and that mentally she is great, the only question that remains is if she is going to control the voice.  So far they have been sending mixed signals about it.

I don't think they'd go through all of this if she could no longer sing or give a version of herself that she is proud of --and she's quite the critic of herself.  Let's not judge things from a fashion show performance.  I think the magical days of people not knowing playback exist is over for many Céline fans and the management isn't up to date with the fact that we all know what she sounded like on each live performance she's ever done.

One thing I noticed is that Celine was much better with lipping this time compared to the Olympics (even though it was harder during this event in my opinion due to lipping to older tracks - especially ALBUM version I'm alive)

How come is Celine so taller than anyone else   Did she wear giant heals or are others really so short in comparison?

I disagree with most comments in this thread.

In my opinion:

1). We were lucky to have this performance as it confirmed that Celine can withstand lights, noise, and emotional stress! At least while she is on stage! This is BIG!

2). Choosing lip-synching does not mean she cannot sing live anymore. Or that her voice is in bad condition. It actually means nothing! Celine has been choosing her 'vocal battles' since the mid 90s. She will not waste her voice on such events or to sing songs that she finds boring.  

3) Choosing to perform in Saudi Arabia will not hurt her image to any extent as it does not mean that she supports their political decisions. The world is a mess right now, we would have something very negative to say about most countries. To perceive specific countries only as being the problem is a quite one-dimensional view, in my opinion.

Just my two cents.

I was thinking the same.
But I'm afraid she was better because she knew that everybody knows that all singers are not live.
So she wasn't trying to prove that she was singing live with those facial movements like she usually does with lip sync!

Totally agree with this. My only difference is the lip synching part… I do agree with her voice is probably better today than 5-10 years ago now that she’s receiving treatments for the spasms. However, I truly believe that the reason she lipped is because of the logistics of the show. Every performance was lipped, and same with the Olympics. The director of the Olympics tried saying it was live, that was BS, maybe she was actually singing beneath the track.. but it wasn’t live and reason being the production.

Celine and her team aren’t stupid enough to come back to live performances (2 times now) if she isn’t capable of performing again with her current voice.

The only lazy aspect of this is her team wasn’t wise enough to have her record a new vocal track for these two songs… I’m guessing TPOL wasn’t done due to laziness because IA studio has always been live her shows right?

In a way or another, she would have done it if she was up to it. My guess is that she is not vocally ready to do it.

Her speech is that she wants to, so if she doesn't do it, it can only mean she can't do it.

She can be on any stage of the world, every tv show, etc... opportunities is not the issue here.  

But maybe I'm wrong, maybe she belts out ABM every evening in her shower...I don't know.

As much as we all wish that Celine was performing like she used to before SPS took over, we all gotta keep in mind that CELINE HAS NOT ACTUALLY SUNG LIVE IN A COUPLE OF YEARS NOW!!

The last time Celine has sung live that any of us know of was during the "Love Again" recording sessions from what, over 2 years ago?? We all know the Olympics performance from last July, while was great to see Celine on a stage & all, but WAS LIPSYNCH FROM A PREVIOUS PERFORMANCE!! & this most recent performance seemed the same thing. & yes I know it is VERY COMMON with these kind of events that there would be no live singing & that lip synching would be involved. That is a no-brainer lol.

But again some of you are putting THE CART IN FRONT OF THE HORSE AGAIN when it comes to Celine & her current situation!! At this point, we know she can stand on a stage (even for about 3-5 minutes for a song or 2,) & of course that IS GREAT!! But can SHE BE ABLE TO SING LIVE will be the million $$ question in order to commit to any major shows, tours, etc down the road.

& even if yes, many of us fans would not care much if she lips lynched through her shows... But we are forgetting about the GENERAL PUBLIC, who might eventually catch on to her lip synching all of her performances (just like what eventually happened to a group called Milli Vanilli back in the late 80s, some of you younger fans might not have ever heard of Milli Vanilli, but please look it up, real life example of a career ruined by lip synching at a show & being caught!!) & if that did ended up happening to Celine if she was caught lip synching by the general public, it would be TOTALLY DISASTROUS!!!! It would automatically end her career!!
