Watching En direct de l'univers with Yannick Nezet Seguin - what a great show!

He spoke briefly about how much he loves Celine (and has since Une Colombe), and how much of a thrill it was to meet her at that show in Montreal in 2016. Interestingly, heading up the string section on the show was none other than.... Celine's concertmaster Philippe Dunnigan!

And Celine was there via video (live from Vegas, I assume!) singing a bit of Quand on n'a que l'amour, in a duet with Yannick's boyfriend!

They also had Rufus Wainwright and he happened to sing my favourite Rufus song (April Fool's). All my favourite people!

So thrilled to have Yannick in NYC. Hope he does something with Celine one day. He has said several times he'd love to... hope it happens! How cool would it be to have Celine sing at the Met?!

What a nice surprise! Quand on n'a que l'amour, sitting in the recording studio   Judging by that setting and being in Vegas, that must have been done while she was recording something for the new album?

It’s crazy, she is constantly in the recording studio (and I love it!!!). I wonder if she is recording an initial version of songs first and then they figure out what they really want and she records again and adds the final touches, or if it’s brand new songs each time. Remember during recording 1fille&4types she recorded initial veesions of songs in Paris first, and then rerecorded them in Las Vegas again or changed and improved things. Maybe it’s the same now. However, during the Taking Chances sessions she recorded one song each session without going back and doing it again. I think this is so interesting!

I would love to have a full, very long documentation process of making that album on DVD that goes beyond promotional clips! I think the behind the scenes processes are fascinating, especially when you are a real fan!

Yannick Nézet-Séguin is the newly-appointed Musical Director of the Met - one of the world's most prestigious opera houses, the Met's first new MD in ~40 years, and only the 3rd MD in the Met's 130+ year history.
He also conducts the Philadelphia Orchestra and Montreal's Orchestre Métropolitain, and has previously also conducted Rotterdam Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Royal Opera House, among others.
He's one of the most in-demand conductors in the world.

He has been a conducting prodigy all his life - started in grade school, and was conducting major ensembles around Montreal as of his late teens /early twenties.
People love him because not only is he great at what he does, but is "young and hip" and a breath of fresh air into what is often considered a stodgy art form. (When not conducting, he's into hop-hop, works out like an athlete and posts about it obsessively (check out his IG!), sports tattoos, has a cat named Rafa after his tennis hero Rafael Nadal, etc.) He has been with his partner, violinist Pierre Tourville (who you see singing with Celine in that vid) for 23 years.

Yeah, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Celine episode of En direct de l'univers was the only one they pre-recorded? Normally it's all live, right?

I feel it's live because the audio is a bit late. It's usually like that when they use a live video.

Those were the rehearsals of the songs in Paris, she wasn't recording the songs yet just rehearsing them with the team of songwriters. But they were filming the making of the album so they made it look professional with Céline having her make-up and looking as if she was recording the songs, but if you notice in the DVD they dub the playback of some songs just like they sound in the CD

Unfortunately we didn't got to see barely any footage from the recording sessions that took place in Las Vegas, were she did lots of grace notes and played with the songs like she only used to do a few years ago

always live. I don't know how they did it, with the delay we see often with live news etc. Must be a good technology.  Just the Celine one was recorded.

what a nice surprise! And she sounds amazing, it would be great when she would sing it again in some of her next french shows in the future.
And this makes me wondering, because she slayed some of not that easy songs of the 90´s this year, like this one or can´t help falling in love, so if she would sing for example the power of the dream again this or next year, 100% live, with all the big notes/belts, I´m sure she would still slay it after all these years...   she´s simply the best

As you'll undoubtedly remember from the Celine episode, En direct de l'univers is a bit of a family love-in. That's what this was about.
