"At last night's press conference, she said she'd change a song/songs if fans ain't happy," wrote a United Kingdom fan who goes by Shamrock2010 on his Twitter site.

"Well, fans think the middle of the show is too boring," he said
This statement is true. As fantastic as the show is, halfway through fans begin to wonder.....are her hits over?  I said it before, the show is top heavy for hits, but lacks in the middle.
Cut out a couple of covers and add a couple of Celines's hits...She's got plenty.  "If you asked me to" is begging to be played.
heu you might want to rephrase that for : I agree with that statement. because its not a fact, some fans think that way. I don't. I would be happy with only ballads. Although i would get rid of the lullaby, cauz i think its really boring.

Jesus Christ. It was a bloody misunderstanding. Darren does a lot for this site, probably a whole lot more than you all do.

"Some fans..."? I would say "Many fans..."!

Hopefully they will change the songlist until Dec. 2011  :-D  :shifty:

BTW, the writer of the article Norm Clark was mesmerized by the show and he had written on his twitter how much he admired the show; so when he read the tweet about a suggestion/semi-complaint on behalf of her fans, he got all worked up and he posted a damn stupid article on his website. You know old men are grumpy and sometimes talk too much crude words, well this one is no exception.

Darren I don't mind what you did because it seems like they never look at what the fans really want.
Last tour, although I looooooooved seeing Celine live, the setlist was pretty much vegas on tour. And I think when you do something new
you must bring something new and not only the same thing all over.

In a way this new show is refreshing because it has a lot of material in it we haven't heard before and it is maybe not the big vegas show with dance etcetera but all about style
I must say I have been one of the people complaining about the setlist... but having heard the final show now, I must say I am pretty pleased with the setlist. What I understand now is that this show is not only focused on the Vegas-concert audience, but also about the theme.
The theme is bigband and classic movies. They picked the bond theme because it perfectly works with the big orchestra.
I must say Seventeen and Lullaby have emotion in it, and I like them a lot. Lullaby at Oprah not impressed me , but this song with the orchestra accompanying it.. pretty amazing. And how great to have Where Does my heart beat now in it! As for my heart will go on, they could have pushed the arrangement further. I was expecting something even more impressing, using the arrangement for the grammy awards of 1998, that was soo amazing. What I hear now is almost exact the same version I have heard on the tour, in A New Day. Now that they have this orchestra they should really do something with it!
And they do, because the Bond theme is perfect for it. I like the spinning wheel song too. And mr. paganini,is a perfect song for this setting.. it oozes style and jazz and really a big band song, perfect for this orchestra.
With all do respect to mr. Stevie Wonder, I did not like the song... but it just does not a AAAA feeling.
I know it is not easy to please everyone, and that some of us really want to hear Because you loved me, IACBTMN and TPOL. Well for the TPOL the orchestral version was perfect and I looooooooved that long note afterwards! So they made a good way to put that song in the setlist.

I think that we really should think about the big band theme and which songs do fit in it.
Then you look at me is a perfect song for it and what about Call the man?  perfect song, maybe not known by the general audience,
but so was I surrender! and it worked big time! So they really should look in Celine's repertoire over the years, with so many gems left untouched life. Not saying they have to change the whole setlist because in terms of covers I think the Bond theme is a very good move.
and so is the michael jackson theme! I loooove ben and man in the mirror!  And River Deep Mountain High is great too, maybe add The Best to the list. Definately a big pleaser too!

that said, I like the show as it is now, minus because you loved me and iabtmn because it adds nothing new and , well alll has been said about that, and that is my opinion about those songs.
And I am sure the show will change a lot in the upcoming years. So I don't worry for that.

And I keep saying this; everyone should have their right to give his or her opinion and that does not make one more or less fan!
At the moment I don't have the money and to be honest it is a lot of money to go to Vegas , not only the ticket but the planeticket as well.
So I enjoy the forum and what everyone has to say and has to tell and has to share with us.

The thing is, I'm sure many would agree they were a little dubious about the set list before seeing/hearing the show because the number of covers. I myself was a little 'disappointed' but I think I never really opened my eyes to the idea of a new show, and just expected A New Day 2.

Having now listened to the full audio, a few times, I'm in love with the show. When they say it's all about Celine, with no in your face glitz or glamor like A New Day, they mean it. The covers don't feel like covers. The Bond and MJ sections are amazing, the duet with herself sounds amazing, I can't wait for some video footage of this to appear!! And to top it off, the show is 99% live!!

My question to those now would be, if Celine were to drop a few songs from the show and replace them. What would you drop and what would you replace it with? Because the classic diva sound that echoes throughout the show is far superior to anything she's released since Lets Talk About Love.

Yeah, I'd love to hear her sing I Surrender or IDAN, ANDHC or I'm Alive, but then, it's my own fault for not going to Vegas before or catching the Taking Chances tour.

I wanted her to do "Refuse to Dance"

'I never even heard the song the orchestra was playiiiiing'

Can you imagine the impact of this song with the orchestra and dramatic violins

What a missed opportunity!

Totally. Absolutely. Refuse To Dance... :in_love:

I'm sure they didn't even stop for a minute to look at the back cover of her CD's to think what songs they could include -_-

I just PMed the administrators about this. I am outraged. You have NO RIGHT to speak for the members of this forum. I am so disgusted I asked to have my account here closed because I am embarrassed to be associated with people who did this. Bad mouthing on the media Celine 2 days after her premiere? What sort of sick people are you? You call yourself fans?

Seriously, what's with the entitlement? Celine didn't sing your favorite song? BOO-OOH! CRY ME A f****** RIVER. Do you always behave like petty annoying and spoiled children when you don't get what you want? How old are you? 5 years old?

I am feeling quite sick right now. How unfair is this, not only to Celine, who is working her butt off, but to the whole team of Rene, Ken, Mego, Aucoin and others who worked so hard for this. To have a bunch of entitled people writing such bullshit. You should be very ashamed of yourselves. I am ashamed of being remotely connected to this so call forum of fans. Seriously. And what makes me actually shake with rage is the fact that you mention the forum with 25000 members when it's only a bunch of you who are pissed off. You had no right to do this.

This forum had fans dancing on the streets of Vegas, people offering gifts to Rene under a banner with this forum's name, people doing interviews just 2 days ago. Now this articles made them look like fools. You made us all look like fools. Next time, used YOUR NAMES, not ours. It's not fair!

Haven't you learned nothing from Celine all these years? What about respect and humility? Learn your lesson, then.

I second that

pra and others that approves Mozinha's rant and blabber can move one; Darren explained CLEARLY the situation and he isn't guilty of anything; It's not like Darren went to the NY times and told them or something to that matter; he explained clearly that MOST of the requests made on this forum was to include a song or 2 in replacement of the boring covers; it was SIMPLY a request; it wasn't meant to HURT anyone nor Celine nor the whole team behind or something else; now the dumbass news reporter who was on twitter read it like he feels it and made a little column on his WORTHLESS little site like he knows what's he's talking about; It's not like the headlines of a catastrophy; speaking of catastrophy, there's MUCH more serious problems happening today than this little misunderstanding. Hopefully, someone would close this topic because the rant is going on and on and on and in circles!

maybe I'm the only one with this feeling but

If I could...

I would replaced almost all of her own songs with covers.

I don't like 30 % of her songs. 30% I'm bored with (heard so much). 20% okay.  And I don't think that a high note makes song better.

BUT I LOVE HER VOICE, TALENT AND PERSONALITY!!!

If I go to a Celine Dion show I go because her incredible voice and the way she sings

SO delete all of her own songs from the show and find some gems from music history  :bananadance:

Here's my two cents:

OK Darren made a mistake. Fine. But when talking to the media you need to pick the right words. Because using the word "boring" is not the best choice. You can say "too slow paced in the middle" or something like that because now other media will pick this up and say "fans think Celine's show is boring". I'm sure this will happen... GREAT!

And the worst thing for me is that Celine got MANY rave reviews for once!!!! But this time the negative comments came from some members of celinedionforum.com... how strange, isn't?

Sure I agree that she should have more of her songs in the show but maybe she wants to do something really different... I don't know... And why does someone go to a journalist to push a song he wants Celine to perform is beyond me!!! I'd rather hear Celine sing Refuse to Dance or If You Asked Me To or TTWII instead of Then You Look at Me. I think that's also a big mistake to say that members from this forum want to hear that song... Because it's NOT true.

Basically, Celine never listens to her fans; so if we liked her show or not I really think it doesn't matter to her. BTW, the journalist read Darren's twitter. When you post your tweets, you say what you feel and most of the tweets are informal in general :thumbsup2: People should never read too much into tweets. It's not like Darren went to the journalist and told him FACE-TO-FACE that the show was boring in the middle; he just tweeted it which is quite different than talking face-to-face with someone.Plus, I bet that Norm's Clark little silly column won't even see the day and it won't make headlines and If so well be it; How can you justify the fact that Celine should add some of her songs without using "realistic" words that normal people would use; if you sweet-talk sometimes the message does not come through :thumbsup2:

Personally, I'm glad to see Celine performing many new songs that are not from her regular repertoire.  For one thing, the fans are getting to hear her sing new (old) songs and for the youngins like myself she introduces us to a generation of classic hits that are apart of musical history.  I agree that it would be nice to see her include more of her own songs but what I like most about this show is Celine's involvement in it's development...to her this is the perfect show...and being that she (supposedly) selected every song from beginning to end, that really says something to me.  At the risk of ruining the show for myself, I've decided not to listen to any of the bootlegs, but from what I've seen in snippets of videos from here and there, this truly looks like the fruit of her labor...and I appreciate it.  The show will definitely evolve within the next 3 years, so there's plenty of time to make changes.  I remember when they cut 'Fever' from AND...I was livid, so let's just enjoy this show while we have it cuz we know they will eventually just cut songs and not replace them with anything.

Also, no need for anyone to be let down.  The caption under Celine's photo in the recent Newsweek article said that after this show's run, Celine can see herself playing Vegas for the rest of her life.   :flowers:

No I don't like to sweet-talk either, but reading that some members of her biggest fan club thinks the middle of the show is boring is not very subtle. That's something that could come from the mean-spirited reviewers.

I just wanted to add that most of the rave reviews that Celine is getting are made because they see in Celine the means to attract more people to the show which will boost the economy of LV IMO. Now I do like the show and everything; but her critics were ALWAYS harsh on her even when her voice was at top notch in the 90s; so the only explanation that makes those same reviewers change their mind is the fact that they don't see in Celine the performer this time but they see in her the money-generator/economy booster. I mean when I saw her welcoming-back bash in LV, I was like those are the people who would #ss-kiss her in order to get a living out of her if we exclude the fans that were there too.

Sorry but that's simply not true. When it comes to the Vegas press it may be true but she's getting excellent reviews from a ton of publications outside of Vegas as well, including some very respected critics.  People are trying too hard I swear..

The number one criticism she got from serious critics during the 90's was not just about oversinging, they often noted that she was gifted with a technically impressive voice but that her material was turgid and trite.  Considering that she's singing an eclectic mix of standards and classics, that was one huge part of many of the rave reviews she received.

Some fans are disappointed because there isnt much "Celine"... Were all here because we love HER songs. So of coarse people here are going to care more that shes not singing her songs then some random reviewers that dont really care what she sings as long as she sings MHWGO and BYL...

I personally am a fan of Celine not Ella, Billy, or James Bond theme songs... I like the way the show is right now  I just wish she would be more considerate of her fans and add another song or two from her catalogue but thats up to her... And I hope that she did read this article because if she is told by everyone that the show is amazing as is than we will probably never get a revised setlist!

Totally agree with your opinion!! Many newspapers outside of the US wrote rave reviews, not just LV papers! And they don't really care about LV economy...

I was going to stop posting in here after the first two comments because I felt from the start that the witch hunt against Darren was unfair but seriously the same suspects are coming in here and turning it into their whinefest again and twisting the truth just to strengthen their arguments

First of all to some of us (at least some of the more sane ones) it wasn't that we were upset someone was complaining that they didn't like the setlist, it was that they insinuated that the fans in general found it boring.  It may seem such a trivial little detail, that someone was quoted as saying "the fans" instead of "some fans" but it is a huge deal considering the kind of drama that went on in this forum just days before the premiere regarding our disagreement over the setlist.

Again I don't blame Darren, and I don't know if he was misquoted or misunderstood, I could hardly care, he's a great poster who's contributed a lot.. but having said that what's this BS some of you are spewing about "oh Norm could've quoted any of us on this forum, he just chose Darren" or "Norm was just going off of casual-natured tweets Darren wrote on his twitter". Um no.  Darren himself explained that while he and Norm do follow each other on twitter, when it came to the infamous quote in question it was through a direct message.  DM's are like private messages on twitter.  He might as well have e-mailed Norm, it's the same thing.  So don't make it into something it's not.

It may seem like I'm freaking out over tiny meaningless details but I really don't understand how it's so difficult to try and not speak for EVERYONE on the forum or for all Celine's fans. Again this is not a knock on Darren.  It's just the same people are coming in and trying to tell us what "we all" are supposed to want.  One post in this thread just insinuated that even though we were supportive of the set-list, that surely we  wouldn't have complained if there were more Celine songs in there.  Well that doesn't mean either that you can speak for all of us in saying that it was boring.  Speak for yourself. Nuff said.

Even now the same members are insisting that the ones who like the setlist wouldn't be hurt if their wishes came true and one even turned to blaming Norm, claiming that he's a grumpy old man and thus while enjoying the show  was upset that "the fans" didn't and retaliated by making the celine forum look bad...WTF? Could you be more delusional?

LOL @ her catalog. Yes her catalog made up of covers.

I so agree with you Mozinha' Celine has worked her butt off and all her amazing crue of musicians' Mego and everyone else'
I think her show was incredible i didn't see it but i've heard live audios from the opening night.
The setlist is classy and amazing and her VOICE...5 Octave magical soprano and her singin so perfection'
I am very dissapointed in the fans who don´t think Celine did great because there is no other female singer
on the planet who acctually has that ability to sing standards and other Classics' than she can.
Look at Open Arms' Mariah Carey covered it in 1995 and now Celine' both very good.
They even sounded similar at some parts. I loved when she sang Where Does My Heartbeat now
How many years has passed since she sang that song...it was in 1994...She nailed it in 2011...totally amazing.
Celine's Voice is stronger than any other female voice i know.

Oh good grief...people need to get off Darren's back.  He's taken much more initiative than many others on this forum.  And quite frankly, the middle of the show does drag a bit.  The show is still in its infancy and it's obvious that editing still needs to take place, but attacking someone who was TRYING to do something with the best of intentions is dumbfounding.  I don't get it.

If Norm was a good man, he would have written his post with more respect even if the message was a bit too blunt. When I read his post on his website, Norm is like slamming us right in the face; so yeah I have the right to express my disappointment with his way of expressing a private message he got into an article. If he knew better, he could have spared us all the drama; but he is a stinky journalist who likes to take things and blow them out of proportions like all journalist do on a daily basis   So basically, if he had chosen his words and not reported a PRIVATE conversation/message like he got it, nobody would be hurt and the message would have come across without a person to blame :thumbsup2:

I would personally say I do love Celines music old or new and its nice thats shes trying something slightly different and new style ,Its Celine of course! :blushing1: :flowers:
I guess there are some songs, I guess we are not used to, which would Celines normal style be, but with no doubt I sure they will grow on us all on which they have in the past, I dare not spoil it for myself{which I would admit I did have a sneek peek tonight, wont again dont want to spoil it for myself} :blushing1:   I am due out to see her soon so I will force myself not to attempt to listen of watch any clips if I can help it.But I do love the photos that are coming through she looks great :flowers: :kicking: :whee:
I do like that ochestra, must be awsome with Celine, wow! :whee: :kicking:

Here's my two cents:

OK Darren made a mistake. Fine. But when talking to the media you need to pick the right words. Because using the word "boring" is not the best choice. You can say "too slow paced in the middle" or something like that because now other media will pick this up and say "fans think Celine's show is boring". I'm sure this will happen... GREAT!

And the worst thing for me is that Celine got MANY rave reviews for once!!!! But this time the negative comments came from some members of celinedionforum.com... how strange, isn't?

No I don't like to sweet-talk either, but reading that some members of her biggest fan club thinks the middle of the show is boring is not very subtle. That's something that could come from the mean-spirited reviewers.

Mmm so how do you like the felling to be described then if not boring? Why do you want to rephrase it when you know that in truth the middle of the show is a total bore"? :giggle:

The show flows too slow since Lullaby starts (as if it announced what comes next... LOL) and there are moments when you can even take a nap until LCMM arrives :whistling:

No no not even LCMM is something to wake up now, that has also become a bore because even Céline herself forgets the words of the song! :giggle:

Are we all reading the same article? Darren expressed a statement and Norm mentioned it, the end. They have both been friends of the forum and both help us to promote Celine. No need to attack either individuals...
