SACDs can only be played on SACD players. I'd had no idea how to transfer a song in this format to a computer for starters... Sorry I'm not that technical either

Mirage this is a very good example of what you can hear on the different channels of the SACD mixes Maybe it's not very noticeable because all the channels are mixed together here but there are some little details and nuances when you are in the center of the 5 speakers that can make wonders of the listening experience.



And in this example they have isolated center channel only, having Céline's voice mainly , but you can hear also some music details that are hardly or impossible to notice in the CD version

It's been a while since I've said anything here. But I recently got the new reissue of the ATW SACD from Hong Kong. I was completely surprised by the different vocal take of BATB. Added nuances and some of the phrases sound very different. And so many of the songs sound so fresh with the different arrangements.

I thought this might interest some of you...

As there is no way to do a spectral analysis of an SACD file I converted each of Celine's SACDs to 24bit 88.2kHz FLAC files just to see what was going on. It seems that the ANDHC SACD is the only one that has sonic information above 22kHz (the limit of CD quality) on all/if not most of the tracks, which kind of makes sense as it was released in 2002 so they had the DSD technology at the time of recording the album. The All the Way... SACD has tracks with sonic data above 22kHz but they were mostly the tracks originally recorded/released from 1999 onwards. As for the 2015 Falling Into You SACD, ALL the tracks had no data above 22kHz, which means the source material/master wasn't high-resolution.

I provided the graphs for the first track off of each SACD, the data you can see at the top in blue is just ultra sonic noise.

Sorry for the double post but I just contacted the mastering engineer via email about the source material/masters used in the production of the SACDs (ATW, ANDHC, FIY), my hunch is that none of the albums were actually recorded in DSD and were recorded in PCM then converted into DSD. If/when I get a reply I will post it here (fingers crossed).

This one I took from the DVD 5.1 audio mix... The two SACD you've mentioned are amazing!!!
ANDHC has not so much difference though... ATW is more interesting and have new elements to the songs.
FIY I noticed none... Is there any difference?

That one was quite a disappointment, the spectral analysis I did suggested that it was no different to the CD version apart from added DSD ultrasonic noise. Maybe it sounds better because of DSD mastering or the original master tape was captured in DSD, but I'm not sure...

As far as I'm aware.
I wish they could go back to the original masters and give us more hi-res releases. One Heart would've been so awesome on SACD.

I haven't compared them but I doubt there'd be much audible difference, K2 HD discs use a different mastering technique but are still 16-bit/44.1kHz CDs.

Here is a spectral analysis comparison between the first track ("It's All Coming Back To Me Now") off the FIY K2 HD CD and SACD, upon closer inspection I think the SACD version might actually be higher fidelity than both the CD and K2 HD versions after all because there's some data that exceeds the 22kHz mark (look at the zoomed in image). It obviously wasn't originally recorded in DSD because it was 1996 (SACD/DSD wasn't even a thing until 1999) but the SACD might be using an uncompressed version of the original master, in other words this could be the highest quality version of FIY we'll probably ever get to hear. It's not completely bad news.

So you're comparing the SACD and the K2 HD CDs? Are you able to analyze the difference between these two and the IACBTMN recently uploaded on Apple, Spotify, and Amazon referred to as lossless, 3D, and Spacial Audio? I recognize most of this is marketing jargon, but I would love to see it visually. You're so scientific - this is what me need more of in the world!

Yeah. If someone can upload the tracks here (or personal message) I can probably compare them and upload the graphs for comparison. It would be best if they were lossless though, if they're just lossy mp3s for example then they will automatically lose out to any CD or SACD release in terms of sound quality. Haha, it just happens that my two areas of interest, hi-fi and Celine, come together!

EDIT: I don't know how to rip music from streaming services so someone will have to do that and send them to me.

I think you can subscribe for free on Apple Music for 3 months? If you guys really want to listen to the dolby atmos tracks. I know Apple Music is available also for Android users

it will be much better if your headphones have spatial audio feature (airpods). Just change the settings (dolby atmos - always on) and lossless quality if you have hi res headphones you can change the settings to hi-res lossless quality under settings.

I don’t think we can easily share these tracks knowing that Apple is so strict in this part. iTunes and Apple Music is different.

A bit late to the party, but I just got this SACD - original US release. Are the alternate vocal on BATB and IFCT on all versions of the SACD, or only the Hong Kong release? I don't yet have a player that will play SACDs (coming shortly, now that I have a reason to have one!). TIA!
