A kind of interesting article:

http://www.cyberpres...celine-dion.php

I still don't get it though. She says Celine has a lot of anguish? But why? What on Earth would make her feel that way?

And I don't believe this woman for a second when she says she's not a gossip.

Perhaps her anguish would be the pressure she puts on herself? Celine says she doesn't have anything to prove anymore - which is true - but she still wants to be successful and keep her fans etc, so the pressure/anxiety etc would still be massive. Even after all these years. And we all know how upset she is when she has to cancel/postpone concerts.

Yeah, I would agree with you.  I think we'd all agree that Celine is an emotional person, and has always put pressure on herself in many aspects of her life.  The feelings of pain or suffering aren't alien to people of celebrity; if anything, they could be even stronger, given all the pressure that falls on them.

Imagine one person being responsible for so much.  Concerts, shows, appearances, smiling, singing, dancing, albums... all that pressure on you, almost 24/7.

People on this forum all started posting like crazy when the photos were posted of Celine at an airport or a hotel, and NOT smiling.  Everyone wondered what was wrong, and all the speculations started.  Let's just remember she's a person, just like all of us, and full of emotion.

Didn't we also get a great track from Linda Perry's observations of Celine:  My Love.  C'mon.  Celine was crying in the studio over the lyrics and the way Linda captured what so many overlook about Celine.  It's not too far fetched that Denise was able to pick up on things about Celine, considering the time they spent together.

Yes exactly, None of us know Celine or what she goes through , money doesnt buy happyness and no one is happy all the time. Yes Linda Perrys song was a true eye opener for the fans, Celine is human, and we really dont know her true and true even though sometimes we like to think we do....

I agree with u guys. She is a human too and i think that we dont really know what was happening there with her,but once i talked to one of my friends and we realized that sth is going on there and that she might not be the way we think(smiling always and doing all other things she must). She is just as we r and she got a lot of pressure and i also agree with roberry when he says can she really hold on all these things. It's complicated and hard and we should understand her.But i believe that she is gonna explode one day and it could be a mess.I'm scared for,but everybody is just looking the other side that she must smile and..come on..think about her and her life..lot of pressure..LOT..
Thank u Jesus. Im in ur hands now.

I don't agree with you about her exploding one day. If she was going to it would have been either during AND or the world tour before Vegas. She had HUGE pressure on her shoulders at those times. I've always known Celine must have days when she's got things on her mind or not feeling very well and still has to do the work she does. I find it hard to do anything when i've got a headache!! I think she just feels pressure at times, doesn't want to let anyone down or disappoint, and to end her fantastic career (whenever she decides to) at the top and not be remembered for a project that has flopped. She only thinks of the good side of everyone, and always says yes to people. That in itself creates pressure. I just think this side of Celine we're hearing about from the book is showing/telling people the "normal" side to Celine, that has the same feelings as us all. Imagine taking the most important exam of your life 200 times a year - when so much of your life depends on it - that's how someone in Celine's shoes would feel every year. Not nice at times.

Great. Now even the reviews don't make sense. I had to read it like, 4 times and Google many words.  :nono:

http://www.cyberpres...e-de-denise.php

I'm really hating this book. Sorry, I have to say it. WTF is up with this whole "poor Celine, she'll never have a normal life, she has so many anxieties, she's so tormented"?? Sorry, I just really don't have time for the whole "drama queen" thing.
She got everything she ever asked for in life. And she has CHOICES. Do you know how many people in the world don't? How many people have to work a million hours or make sacrifices for their job that affect their family life- but out of necessity, NOT because they wanted to do it? How many people there are who don't have a husband, or kids, or parents who love them? They're the ones who should be complaining about feeling alone.
I know Celine herself never complains about that publicly, but what the heck is she doing behind the scenes to make Denise write this...merde? :P

BTW the part about displaying her private life to calm her anxieties? That does not even make sense? Can someone explain? I'll try to shut up now, honest...

I don't think Denise wrote this book so that the world can feel sorry for Celine. This book gives us the oppertunity to get to know the woman behind the voice a bit better. Denise shares with us Celine's fears, thoughts, dreams and emotions. Something that is rarely discussed. Personally I can't wait to read it...

I thought about this anguish thing again. This is what I make of the few articles that I have read so far: The anguish that she has is caused by her fear of being alone. I think I understand why she has this fear. Many of the people close to her heart (Rene, her mother, and many of her brothers and sisters) are a lot older than her. She knows that the day will come when they will all be gone... leaving her behind. Remember these people mean everything to Celine. She probably does not know how she will survive when they are all gone. And this scares her...

Thats just what I think. But my French is not that good, so I might have it all wrong...

P.S. I think you are making to much of that article. I don't think you can conclude from that short article what the book is about. And remember these articles contain a lot of things that is taken out of context. I think you will have to read the whole book to decide if you hate it or not.

I think this extract from the book is amazing, it's just what I wanted to hear. Thanks a lot Bennyble for the translation!

Quote

On the table, she lays down some photos took one year ago, and those took last week in Tokyo, in company of sumo wrestlers. On those pictures, she strikes the pose of her idols, she looks combative, if not invicible. She puts two pictures of herself next to each other and says :"Look how I have changed. I don't recognize myself. Look at my eyes. Those are the eyes of a free woman. This world tour freed me, it made me question myself. In each new city, I have to begin from scratch. There's nothing took for granted. In the last years of Vegas, I felt like a prisoner of a routine I had to fight against. I wasn't in danger. Here, I feel like myself."
I really felt that Vegas was a prison for her artistic creativity. Without trying to sound dramatic it was as if she became a prop in her show, like those that flew over her head or appeared from the stage on cue. I hope when she returns she remembers this feeling and tries to find a way to retain the fun and the spontaneity she was able to find again on tour. I love that she could just stop and hug a fan or tell a stupid story or start singing local songs with us. A scripted show like A New Day relies on everything being timed to perfection, there was no room for Celine to be goofy and mess around - the show couldn't wait. So I was pleased when I heard that the new show might be more like a concert because this makes me think she'll be able to be herself and not have to be so restrained and prim and formal like she was the last time.

And another thing from the book that I mentioned briefly in the magazine thread: Celine was only satisfied with 4 or 5 performances of A New Day out of all 723 performances she did. I think that's incredible! We know she is her hardest critic but only 4 or 5 performances? That's only 1 week's worth of shows out of nearly 5 years performing. I wonder what she thought was wrong with the other 719 shows?

WOW! I almost cried reading that extract. I hate that she felt that way. (I know, Jacqui, now you are going to tell me: ''You see, you feel sorry for Celine.'' But I just couldn't help myself. It is obvious that all of us will feel a bit for her... But I still don't think that is the intention of the book.)

Just a couple of days ago I told one of my friends that I think Celine realized during the TC tour how much she has missed the freedom and the interactions with fans she has when on tour...

Yeah, I hate that she felt like a prisoner and found it hard to be herself but I love that now she can see what the punishing routine did to her so she can make sure it doesn't happen again. It's not fair that she didn't feel like herself or had to fight the show hundreds and hundreds of times, night after night. Celine is a goofball, she's a dork...and we love her for it! If she wants to lie on the stage and pretend to fall asleep or kiss a child and pull stupid faces or talk about something that interests her then she should be able to! It's her show, she should be in charge and not the other way around. I'm so pleased she regained her control and found herself again!!

Ok, so maybe she wrote it because she planned to write a book and she wanted it to be different to all the other Celine books. And she's a gossipy annoying woman, so she has to try to create controversy. I seriously feel bad for saying it, but I do not like her- at all. Hence, I don't know if I want to read the book.

If that's the reason for her anguish, that is totally understandable. But why couldn't the author just say that in the first place, instead of making it like a big stupid riddle?

I'm sorry, but I think you are going a bit to far. First of all you haven't read the full book and you're jumping conclusions too fast. Secondly, you've only read a few articles, and as you admitted you had to google a lot of words. So, don't be so literal and so harsh about something you don't fully understand yet.
The woman you acuse of being "gossipy and annoying" is graduated in social studies and behaviour... That's what she does for her life... So, she's qualified no analyze whoever she wants, including Céline. And if she wrote the book and hang around Céline and her family it was because she had permission to do so.
And about the "anguish" argument... Everyone at one point in her/his life feels a good or bad anguish towards something. We are all human beings... And what this book proves, in my opinion, is that Céline is a human being as we are, with raw and complexe feelings that move her through her life.

So, relax... And please, first read the full book with a fair translation, before starting to take unaccurate conclusions and before almost starting insulting a respected writer like Denise is.

I totally agree with you on this !!!!!!  :thumbsup2:

And also she's an journalist. She is very intelligent.

And you shouldn't believe in "google translation" it does a bad job many times. French is not like english and not to forget that this book was written in french du québec not from france and there are many different words with different meanings!

I agree 100% with you. I think this book is going to become one of the best books ever written on Celine...

Ok, if it comes out in English, I will read it. I could probably read it in French, but I don't know if it's worth totally confusing myself.

I still don't like her though, and not only based on the fact that she's making Celine seem like some kind of sad woman who hates her life. :P I don't care if the whole world respects her and if she graduated with diplomas in being a gossip   or whatever it was she graduated in. I hope you guys don't hate me or think I'm being mean, so I'm sorry if I upset anyone.
It's just...haven't you ever felt instinctively that someone was just not...I dunno, trustworthy? You don't even have to know a lot about them to get that vibe. I've been right to trust my instincts about people in the past, so I can't help it. I can't force myself to respect her or like her.

Edit: Moderators, you can delete my posts if you want to. I'm not trying to defame this woman or whatever, it's just my opinion. It's not worth causing trouble over this. :(

One of my favorite parts in the book so far is when they are flying from Miami to Palm Beach and Celine tells to Rene that at 12 years old when she first met him she thought he was the most handsome man she had ever seen. And that she fell in love with him on the spot. And Rene blushes and Celine giggling turns to Denisse and says "men never see us coming". Page 30.
