After a seven-year hiatus, Whitney Houston will release a new album Sept. 1, her record label announced Wednesday.
Houston's seventh studio album - rumored to be titled Undefeated - will include the Diane Warren-penned "I Didn't Know My Own Strength."
Photographer Patrick Demarchelier recently worked with the singer for some promotional shots and called the day "fantastic." "She was so full of life and energy. She moved well and was in such great spirits," he said.
Houston, who divorced ex-husband Bobby Brown in 2007, has sold more than 170 million singles, albums and videos worldwide and is cited by the Guiness Book of World Records as music's "most awarded female artist of all time" with a tally of 411 awards, including six Grammys and two Emmys.

Arista records has released the album name and release date. With fans eagerly awaiting Whitney's comeback, the CD is appropriately titled The Wait Is Over. Her 7th studio album will be available September 1 2009.

Whitney Houston reemerges with a new album set for SEpt. 1 release on Arista.

Mariel Concepcion, N.Y.
The wait is over -- Whitney Houston is finally making her comeback on Sept. 1 with an as-yet-untitled album on Arista Records. For her return, the label has set up a countdown on the New Jersey-bred artist's official site, WhitneyHouston.com, which will also preview selected tracks slated to appear on the album in coming weeks.
Producers and songwriters said to aid with the set include will.i.am, Sean Garrett and Akon, although there is no confirmation on whether a duet with Akon, "Like I Never Left," which leaked last year, will make the cut.
"The voice is there; I don't think anyone could ever take that from her. As long as we apply that voice to hit records, she'll be right back where she left off," Akon told Billboard.com back in 2007.
Houston made her first high-profile public appearance at her mentor Clive Davis' pre-Grammy gala back in February, where she performed a four-song set that included brief renditions of "I Will Always Love You" and "I Believe in You and Me" plus a tent revival-style take on "I'm Every Woman."
Houston has been dogged in recent years by drug and health issues -- including rehab stints in 2004 and 2005 -- a legal dispute with her father, John Houston, rumored financial problems and a troubled marriage to fellow singer Bobby Brown that ended in divorce.
Houston's last album was 2002's "Just Whitney," which sold 737,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

And... as I can see here http://www.whitneyhouston.com/ Now Whitney is in the war for best selling female artist with Mariah Celine and Madonna since now they claim that she has sold over 170 million records... weren't they 130 ? But as we all have noticed record companies always increase their sales with around 30-40 million copies when they are releasing a new album

Here's a little more info on Whitney Houston's still untitled new comeback album.
I told you eariler this week that Whitney's album was done, and would be released by the Grammy deadline cut off of August 31, 2009.
Well, yesterday Arista Records confirmed it. There's one weird hitch: the album will go on September 1st, one day after the deadline. I know, it doesn't make any sense. Maybe it's a shipping thing, and the Grammys will allow a 24 hour grace period.
More importantly, here's some news: Alicia Keys wrote and produced a track on the album for Whitney. Houston has been "working" Alicia for a couple of years, and it finally happened. The track is also produced by Alicia's reported current love interest, the producer Swizz Beatz. (His real name is Kasseem Dean, by the way.)
There are tracks on Whitney's album from Diane Warren, Stargate, and other top producers of the day. But the first single is set to be a David Foster production.
And yes, the track that was leaked last year with Akon, "Like I Never Left," will be included in its finished form.
I am told, also, that the album is a combination of big, sweeping ballads and 80s dance music like Houston's trademark hit, "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody."
So it looks like we will have new albums from Whitney and Mariah at the same time after all. It's a flashback battle of the divas, circa 1994. Bring it on! www.showbiz411.com

Both singers have mega heavyweight´s collaborators but i think Whitney will win this time cause it´s her time now.
It´s Whitney´s Year....Mariah had 2005....until 2008....Celine is in between but she does them both good i mean all three have maked a diffirence in the music biz since 1990 and before...like Whitney she ruled the 80´s of Vocal Acrobatics like no other...
I do hope Celine will come with a new album in 2010 before she returns to Las Vegas...to perform something new and fresh.

Whitney Houston's comeback campaign seems quite contrived. It's as if we are getting ready to watch the new Whitney Houston Comeback movie with people jumping, crying, and screaming, "Welcome back Whitney!" Let's face it: America loves comebacks. Whitney Houston could deliver absolute musical crap and the media will still love it.
However, it doesn't sound like Whitney Houston is going to be releasing crap. Music industry insiders say that the most important aspect of Whitney Houston's comeback campaign is to remind people why they fell in love with Whitney Houston in the first place: her great voice, her irresistible ballads, and her fun dance songs. Her new album, which is rumored to be titled Undefeated, will be released on September 1.
Whitney Houston is playing it very smart by putting out a new album with 80s dance music that is similar to "How Will I Know" and " I Wanna Dance With Somebody." There will also be sweeping ballads similar to "I Will Always Love You" and "Greatest Love of All."
Madonna and Mariah Carey should be taking notes. People really don't want to see women over forty get down and dirty with rappers and pretend they are twenty-years old again. Mariah Carey thought she would interrupt the buzz surrounding Whitney Houston's comeback by releasing her album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, the week before. Judging by Mariah's horrid new single "Obsessed," which was just released today, Whitney doesn't have much to worry about.

Newsroom | Posted on 06/22/09 | Filed Under: R&B News, Alicia Keys
It's no secret that Alicia Keys is busy working on new music but a rumored collaboration with returning 'Bodyguard' vocalist Whitney Houston is creating buzz across the net.
Keys, currently working on the follow up to 2007s "As I Am," is rumored to have penned a song for the former "I Have Nothing" singer titled "Million Dollar Bill" !
Revealed by Showbiz411's Roger Friedman, "Million Dollar Bill" precedes Key's fourth studio album and a host of projects coming from music icon Clive Davis.
If the song makes the cut, "Million Dollar Bill" would join a soon to be released Diane Warren and David Foster helmed single, set to lead Houston's as-yet-untitled comeback in September.
Speaking of the single with enthusiasm, Warren says "Whitney's back big time".
But Houston is not the only one with an album coming out this fall. Alicia Keys' currently in production effort is slated for release toward the end of the year.
Reveling in progress made recently, Keys took to Twitter writing: "Just finishing at the studio.....WOW! love this one! thought 4 the day/night When we r open 2 change, a world of change opens 4 us!"
"Exploring new sounds & letting the heart lead the way," Keys went on to say.
When released, Keys' as-yet-untitled effort will become her fourth studio album to be released via J Records in nearly nine years.
The "No One" singer debuted in 2001 with the Grammy Award-winning album "Songs In A Minor".

Here's the first look at Whitney Houston's new single "I Didn't Know My Own Strength", which was premiered Junior Vasquez during a gay pride event. He obviously has the acapella and has put it over some other dance instrumental (a Mariah Carey one I think), because I don't think this is the official club mix, but expect Whitney's vocals to sound exactly like this on the single version. The song was written by balladeer Diane Warren and produced by David Foster (I Will Always Love You) so check it out below.
Nice, very touching. There's a chance it could be a little boring but I think with the right instrumental it'll be fantastic. Whitney sounds very understated and beautiful, her vocals are so smooth and I love it. She obviously hasn't gone for a big belter and wants to sneak in through the back door, similar to when Janet Jackson dropped "That's The Way Love Goes" back in 1993. Whether half-Whit can still sing or not is a whole nother question, but it's safe to say that she sounds wonderful, with or without the power vocals.
