I defiantly agree with you Cindy on that her voice is better than it was ten years ago. But I still like her music from her old c.D.s than today but I still love D `Elles and A New Day Has Come. But I still love her voice today it so much better. Plus she is tacking more risks with her music these days which is great for her and the fans as well.

In her "Let's talk about love" album, "The reason" is a cover, so is "Immortality", the same for "Treat her like a lady", "Love is on the way", "Just a little bit of love", "Amar haciendo el amor", "When I need you", "I hate you than I love you" and "Let's talk about love"... That makes a lot of covers, no?   And they say it's one of her greatest albums!

Yes it's just the way she's always worked, just that before we would realize they were covers a long time after hearing the songs, unlike now when we can just search the web with the song titles and be prepared for what's to come.

*Taking Chances* and *Right Next To The Right One* are the ones I like the most out of the covers we know so far.  *Song4U* is going to be undersang I'm sure, this song needs the oversinging Céline from the 90's and I just know we won't get it.  *Alone* will be alright but doesn't excite me much.  The *My Love* we've found on youtube, that one live version with the cool piano, is just horrible and I hope doesn't make the cut, it would be pointless and be pleasing absolutely no one the way it is now.

I'm just going to wait until I have the CD to make up my mind if I like the songs or not.  There are songs that Celine's covered that I adore and when I hear the original versions I'll think the song is just dreadful.  So I make a final decision on the songs in November.

The Reason I don't believe was actually a cover....Carole King i think included it on her own album AFTER Celine sang it...Immortality wasn't done before Celine, she just did a duet with The Bee Gees who wrote it, Treat Her Like a Lady, was co-written by Celine if you look in the album's liner notes..so that is also not a cover....

The Reason was NOT a cover, you're right about that. Neither was Immortality. But Treat Her Lie A Lady is a cover. Diana King released it a couple of years before Celine did. Celine is listed in the credit on her album just because she changed a word or two to make it easier for her to sing certain parts.

All this hate regarding this covers issue is rather silly.  How many of these songs would be widley known as covers?  Take her other covers, at the time I had no idea IACBTMN, FIY and I Surrender were cover versions, but in my mind now (and to countless others)  they are Celine songs!  Hell even TPOL is now known as a Celine song and it is quite a famous tune anyway.  The only ones that scream out on this record is Alone and Song for you.

Well...

Aerosmith made a demo of "The Reason", until they refused to record it for good, the song then was given to many artists until Céline finally decided to record it, so in this sense, yes, it's a cover.

"Immortality" was first recorded for a musical in London, until people at Sony heard it and thought it would be a great song for Céline to sing, and asked the Bee Gees to sing it with her.

Finally, yes, "Treat her like a lady" is also a cover, Céline just helped re-write some parts of the song cause it was too difficult for her to sing it like the original.

Am I the only one who actually LIKES "Right Next To The Right One"?  I can totally hear Celine singing this and the laid back-style of the song reminds me a bit of "In His Touch."

Also, I've found 4 tracks called "Surprise Surprise" by other artists on iTunes... One by The Rolling Stones, one by A Telemetry, one by Tree63 and one by The Starting Line....  I doubt she's doing is the Rolling Stones or Startling Line tracks but are any of these the original version of the Celine track?

I don't care if she is recording songs that someone else recorded before because to me it will be different - the arrangement, the production, and of course the beautiful voice of Celine!!    I will reserve my opinions on the actual songs when I hear Celine's final version when the cd is released (or it's leaked online).  Just because a song was recorded by someone else doesn't mean it's not good enough.  Many have recorded "Power Of Love" before Celine and she was the ONLY one to take the song to #1 in the US.  "All By Myself" was a big hit for Eric Carmen too, but Celine's version was also a huge hit making the Top 5 in the US.  There's NOTHING wrong with recording a song that someone else previously recorded.  

If I've read this thread correctly, ONLY "Alone" is well known and MOST people would consider this the only "cover" song on the cd.  Many regard a "cover" song as one that was a hit for someone else prior to the current version.  So while some of these songs were previously recorded, most reviews/critics/listeners would not regard them as "covers".

"Right Next To The Right One" is my favorite this far. It will be stellar with Céline's voice. Especially at the end there are some great "Faith"-like laid-back adlibs which I totally feel.

If I put myself in the shoes of a songwriter, I would be overjoyed when I have many artists recording my song. I wouldn't exactly call it a "cover," but more of an opportunity for my literary art to be shared with the world.

Songs are made to be sung. Many of us do karaoke.

The difference is: A professional singer records a song in a high-tech environment and gets the rendition of the song immortalized in a record.
