Did you know that you could book on AirBNB the former house of Maman Dion in Laval?
And if you take the kajak and cross the "River of 1.000 Islands" you can visit the former house of Céline on Ile Gagnon.  (Don't know if someone's living there at the moment.)

It’s interesting that every decade, around the ‘6-7’ mark, a big and bold Célinaissance tends to happen in her career:

1987-1989: new image, came back with “Incognito”, won Eurovision, first toured with much of her defining team

1996-1999: global domination, huge albums, big tours, ended with Céline’s hiatus

2006-2009: “Final Year” revamped AND show, new albums, world tour, ended with Céline’s second hiatus

2016-2019/2020: popularity resurgence, fashion, new band, new albums, toured the world

2026-present: return to regular live performance, rumored new albums, and hopefully many more things to come

So let’s enjoy every minute of this new era because we all know what happens when the decade ends 😕

As for her personal life, it’s usually at the beginning of each decade that the defining moment tends to occur (her wedding and René’s death being the obvious exceptions).

I posted this last night already in the News thread, but I had meant to post it here actually --

On Instagram, French TV presenter (and not great guy at all) Cyril Hanouna said "if you love Céline Dion [...], make sure to watch La Grande Régalade on Wednesday April 22 on the French network W9 at 21:15"... He's teasing something but who knows what (knowing him, it could very well be clickbait nothing... But maybe it's something??)

https://www.instagram.com/reels/DXY7v7yAdYF/

An article talking about it: https://www.voici.fr/television/soyez-la-des-21h15-cyril-hanouna-tease-une-surprise-pour-les-fans-de-celine-dion-dans-tout-beau-tout-neuf-zaptv-822585

I think people here who saw his message think it could be an interview or pre-recorded video message... but at the same time, it's weird that it would be with him and not with a journalist or network here that she has more history/rapport with... We'll see, I guess.

They only raffled 2 tickets to a Celine Dion concert.

Ugh, yeah. I saw that they also had a bad impersonator.

They’ve been quietly deleting versions of albums and singles off Spotify and Apple Music over the last few days (at least in the U.S.). Which has been nice because it got rid of the D’eux album on Spotify that had The French Album cover as its cover, but now there are also two versions of LAP on both streaming services, and one of them counts the streams of the album versions of PQTME and JIOTI instead of the live versions. It seems they got rid of D’eux on Apple Music though and only have The French Album left. They also deleted some of the standalone singles. Maybe some deluxe singles are finally coming?

What singles have you noticed?

Some non-essential ones like Taking Chances and Loved Me Back to Life (that had no extra songs on them), but also all her ‘80s singles from The Peanut Butter Solution (Listen to the Magic Man and Michael’s Song) are gone on Apple Music now.

I didn't even know that those were out there!  Why the hell can't they be on Spotify!?

Right? I always wondered that too! I wonder if Apple had a deal for exclusive streaming rights of those songs. Though would be odd for them to choose those ones. 😅

The Peanut Butter Solution songs were deleted at the begining of the year.

There's a new podcast episode today called "Why we're so emotional about Céline Dion's comeback" on the Canadian podcast Commotion CBC, with Eugénie Lépine-Blondeau (québécoise journalist) and Benjamin Locoge (editor-in-chief for Culture for Paris Match). It's in English and available on youtube for those interested.

No new information, of course, but it's a nice talk with people who obviously care about Céline and are fans themselves.

First time ever I read such an article in Le Monde
The editor-in-chief himself published it online this morning. I can access the article in full but posting it would be a copyright infringement I guess. I only reproduce the last 2 sentences of the original article here :

Céline Dion a réussi l’exploit de créer autour de sa venue à Paris une bulle d’émotion heureuse, alors que son économie ne fait pas de sentiment. Qui plus est dans le pays le plus politisé et le plus clivé qui soit. Chapeau l’artiste.

Celine Dion managed the remarkable feat of creating a bubble of joyful emotion around her visit to Paris, despite the fact that her economy is anything but sentimental. And all the more so in the most politicized and divided country in the world. Hats off to the artist.

And here’s a résumé by GPT, translated with Deepl :

FR

« Comment peut-on aimer Céline Dion ?

"How can anyone love Céline Dion? The frenzy surrounding her Paris concerts is surprising."

Michel Guerrin’s article analyzes the extraordinary buzz surrounding Céline Dion’s Paris concerts, for which nearly 500,000 tickets were sold despite overwhelming demand. This frenzy raises questions, particularly in light of frequent criticism of her style, which is often deemed kitschy, sentimental, or “saccharine.”

The author highlights a cultural divide: Céline Dion is both immensely popular (230 million albums sold) and often scorned by some critics and elites. Drawing on Carl Wilson’s essay, he explains that this rejection reveals as much about the critics’ tastes and prejudices as it does about the music itself. Dion’s songs, though simple and emotional, resonate deeply with the personal lives of millions of fans.

This strong emotional connection explains the public’s extreme enthusiasm, as fans are willing to travel and pay high prices to see her. Despite criticism regarding ticket costs and certain market excesses, Céline Dion manages to create a rare collective experience, rooted in emotion and identification, within an often-divided social context.

In summary, the article highlights the contrast between the cultural disdain Céline Dion is sometimes subjected to and the powerful attachment she inspires, demonstrating that her success rests above all on her ability to deeply connect with her audience.

I saw that and I'm shocked-but-not-shocked. The snobbery and elitism really pisses me off. It reminds me a lot of that ridiculous, self-important Nathalie Petrowski in Québec who also loves nothing more than to say in the media how cheesy and syrupy Céline's music is and how her fans are idiots and how she is so much better than everyone because she loves indie music and "real" music. It's really sad when Le Monde is trying to sell papers this way. What clowns.

I find Petrowski is much worse ! As for Le Monde, I don’t think they’re trying to sell paper. On the contrary, I think they’re trying to make amends without admiting it, to avoid disavowing themselves in the eyes of their snobish readership. The article relies primarily on Wilson's book, which criticizes the rejection of what elites call "sentimentalism" (and also draws on Bourdieu’s notion of « distinction »). Admittedly, Guerrin's approach is very partial and overlooks Céline's vocal qualities, but frankly, I don't think Le Monde would risk disparaging her on that point. The article is therefore somewhat disingenuous, halfway there, in that it doesn't celebrate the artistic talent itself, but believe me, it marks a cultural turning point. There will probably be cynical reactions, but it paves the way for well-deserved recognition. I see it as the dawn of a cultural shift.

That's a relief! I admittedly only read the first half of the article because the rest was paywalled... I'm glad that there's at least a little reflection and that they don't wholesale jump on the boat of snobbery and elitism! The title and early claims were a kind of leurre then to get people riled up!

Yet, as I said (but it’s better in French), it remains a little « faux cul » !

And it looks to be longer at home.. you can see a pony tail not a shorter bun… not significant but that to me indicates that she have been filmed recently for other things. 👀

Ginette looks deeply moved. These two are pillars in Quebec cultural history. Their mutual admiration is the mark of great women.

Let’s invite Ginette in Paris !

At the risk of sounding provocative, Céline doesn't do promotion, but keeps time for what's meaningful and essential to her. From this point of view, the choice of Dansons instead of an uptempo track or a power ballad as the first single is coherent.

She's in her PJs and looking very unprofessional for her star status. Most likely it's that.

No!!! Those are not PJs! Just a white blouse with a beige top underneath and white pants with a sparkling belt! Céline would never ever sit in her PJs to send a video message to one of her former idols!!!

Not PJs but also not flattering to wear this outfit sitting down… the outfit didn’t translate and looks a bit sloppy . The lighting of the video seems not great either.

BTW This seems to be the area of her home where Celine sits with her boys in opening scenes of IACD…
