The next week we could possibly see a drop on the UK Singles Chart because of the ACR rule. Once a track is ten weeks old, if its weekly chart sale has declined by three weeks in a row, it is moved onto the Accelerated Chart Ratio where its digital streams now count for half of what they did before. Although I hope the song won't go onto ACR yet.

 

It’s very odd rules 🥸🤨

Why considering digital decreases in a different way than streaming. It does not make sense for me 🤷🏻

But look at (deceased) Italian singer Raffaella Carrà. Her highest streaming songs are around the 25-30 million mark. BUT the remix 'Pedro' by Jaxomy and Agatino Romero has 235 million spins! This song was released on April 14th. This got her listeners up to 17.4 million!!

 

 

I don't know why Céline struggles to attract a bigger audience on the streaming services. But I have my suspicions... IMO she should have 30 million listeners on a regular basis :(

Even though SMHOF is a relatively nice hit... It pains me to see how Céline struggles to get more listeners on Spotify. I mean 19 million is a nice number...

 

But look at (deceased) Italian singer Raffaella Carrà. Her highest streaming songs are around the 25-30 million mark. BUT the remix 'Pedro' by Jaxomy and Agatino Romero has 235 million spins! This song was released on April 14th. This got her listeners up to 17.4 million!!

 

 

I don't know why Céline struggles to attract a bigger audience on the streaming services. But I have my suspicions... IMO she should have 30 million listeners on a regular basis :(

 

Cause Celine’s fans prefer CDS even myself

The audio quality is superior on a CD or vinyl than on a streaming service

Anyway, sometimes I stream her, but not everyday

True that, as 1 of the main diva's from the 90s she should have more listeners.

 

Though a lot of Mariah/Madonna/Whitney songs are on so many playlists. Lots of rnb listeners as well.

Not everyone can appreciate full 7 minutes of IACBTMN.

 

And honestly you just can't open any social media where you won't here Pedro.

I think if SMHOF was that big, the numbers would be insane.

 

Must say I'm quite happy seeing Celine hitting the 19 million mark. Well deserved! Now break the 20 million!

She’s been steadily climbing in monthly listeners. She’s been out of the spotlight for years so if she keeps making appearances, the numbers will keep rising.

The main reasons why Celine's streaming numbers are relatively low (and lower than her peers) are as follows:

  • She has not been in the public eye for almost 4 years. She is essentially on a career break since early 2020.
  • She does not have many collaborations with other artists - especially ones that would attract younger audiences.
  • She does not have a good social media team.

That said, she is doing really well at the moment while there is room for improvement.

  • Whitney is gone for 12 years now... Yet she still has 28 million listeners, number 179 of the world.
  • She does not have many collaborations with other artists - especially ones that would attract younger audiences.
  • True, though Whitney doesn't either, except for the (successful) recent remixes of I wanna dance with somebody and currently it's not right, but it's ok. But mostly a remix of b-side from the 90's (Higher Love) has been a huge success. Almost 1 billions streams! 300 million more than I will always love you!
  • She does not have a good social media team.
  • Nope she doesn't. I am still very surprised she didn't congratulate Nemo with winning the Eurovision. They are her successor!! :doh: AND it's also the little things, like Rupauls Drag Race France did the rusical about Céline!! Why no shout out or recognition?? Or recently not mention that Quand on s'aime with René Simard is finally on Spotify It's the little things, but they are sleeping on the job!

 

What are your suspicions?

 

That Sony doesn't care and not pushes her enough! And/or even on Spotify she's being boycotted! Like I said many times before, when entering an artist radio (after you played an album and Spotify starts to play suggested songs), Céline is hardly ever present. Not even when you play singers like Lara Fabian! :doh: Those might be small stakes, but it would gain attention for Céline.

 

And her songs are hardly ever featuring in big playlists. And if they are, it's usually MHWGO, ABM, IACBTMN or BYLM. Sony doesn't do any effort in pushing/promoting her other back catalogue. It is so frustrating to see. Not even to mention how her catalogue on Spotify is a mess and incomplete. I still don't get how Sony did not add the IACBTMN single on Spotify with the singles, when it was a bit of a TikTok hit. :glare:

I think it's also a matter of which countries Celine is more popular and the Spotify share in those countries. Also I doubt Whitney would be much higher than Celine if she was alive.

Death only enhances celebrity status. There is a volume of sociological publications on celebrity and how death impacts public perception/responses. Whitney is more commercially and critically successful postmortem than in the 00s decade that she faced a major vocal, commercial, and critical decline. There was a time in 2009 when she attempted to go on tour where people would walk out her concerts and say disrespectful things on camera. Loads of social media content about bad performances.

 

There has been a clear cultural shift ever since and it was her death that washed away all negative perceptions and further elevated her to legend status. Add the recent film about her life and successful remixes and this explains why she is ahead of Celine. Still not by a major difference all things considered. Point is that what you perceive as a negative (being gone for 12 years) is actually having a positive impact, in my opinion.

Her songs are not playlisted enough. That's the very issue I wish Sony should have done a few years back when streaming took over, while Celine was on hiatus. Whitney's IWALY has much more PL reach than MHWGO, let alone IWDWS which has more than double.

 

I also remember Whitney having horrible digital sales and it only changed when she passed away.

Does anyone know the playlist reach for the remixes? I know theres a site that tells you but you need to join it.

 

Although they probably make more money on these remixes by not paying for playlists.

the violet one used to have 3M current PL, thus, reaching 50k daily streams. It got removed

Wouldn't it be great if Céline performed SMHOF for the Olympics as part of her "set?"

 

It would be a great energetic (and smart) way to promote that single and help launch the ceremonies; along with the other songs she's set to sing. :clap:
