I agree with you on 90% of all the topics, Javito, but not on this one. I could not care less about an album in Spanish And I am sure 90% of her fans do not care as well. Many of Celine's followers don't even care about her French material, let alone Spanish... and please no jazz album As you said, her voice is not ethernal, and I don't want it to be wasted on such a snooze fest

I said this because these are/were the "pending" music projects Celine wanted to do not so long ago, but please replace them with "Ska" album or "Portuguese" language album if you want. My point was just to say that she could break that routine and do something out of the box for a change, something really different besides the formula "English album/French album"

omg a new french album would be amazing. if released end of 2020 it would be perfect. and then since she said she recorded 48 songs and only 20 are on courage, maybe she can release 2 14 track albums in 2021 and 2022! imagine us getting one new album from 2019-2022!! :D oh one can dream.

So no, you should NOT close the topic. Nobody’s forcing you to participate. Some of us are more interested in an actual conversation than pages and pages of concert play-by-play (“what song is she at?” 🙄), or reports of who bought tickets to which show and where they’re sitting.

 

And as already noted above, things have changed. So it’s not at all out of the realm of possibility.

Well, the promising development is she seems keen on releasing more material, and that can only be a good thing. More frequent releases mean more frequent experimentation. Spanish / ska / jazz / duets... whatever. It’s all a good thing.

Speaking of Portuguese =)), there are times when she talk-sings in French songs, when some of her notes instantly made me think of Mariza, the Fado singer.

If Jean-Jacques Goldman is involved this can only be good news! Encore en soir song is probably the best she has recorded this decade. So if we get a new French album in 2020 it will be the 5th studio album in 8 years!

EUS is one of my favourite French songs of hers. I don't see it being inferior to the other songs he wrote for her, but then again French isn't my native tongue.

I really don’t understand why she doesn’t do a JJG medley in her Anglo shows. She already has the spiel on Jean Jacques Goldman and “the biggest song of my French career”, she could easily do PQTME, EUS and one other. I get people don’t know French, but music transcends all languages!

She probably never would, but if she does wind up back in Vegas some day it would be so cool if she ran two different shows - one English and one French. The same way Lady Gaga did one Jazz and one Pop version during her run. Dreaming...but it would be so fantastic!

In all seriousness though, I really do believe if the French shows were clearly advertised in advance they would do very well. Many of us would make the effort to go to those if that was an option.

I would LOVE to see a Celine French show! Unfortunately my budget doesn’t allow for travel unless she’s rather close, which is why I’m so thankful for this tour. I would adore that though!

There’s a small theatre here in town and it’s simply gorgeous. She needs to come! I get theres not a huge pull here but like come on! And we’d all be so close, up close and personal () I think it would be a fabulous idea though.

Honestly I think at this point she wants to keep them separate in the US. I would die, and my bankroll also, if she ever got the nerve to do it in the States. Does anyone remember when she filmed the special in Vegas and the turnout was dismal? Maybe that’s why she’s reluctant??

It'd be great if she'd do a Carnegie Hall French concert a la Judy Garland. I'm sure she can sell out a "une soirée à Paris" in a New York Theatre. Even if she has to advertise some Brel & Piaf covers. Americans would go nuts!

 

It's a bit different for Operas since there are only a few famous english ones (Nixon in china, Dido and Aeneas); at least in Europe, though I didn't notice a lot of english sung ones in the Met's seasons (I might have overlooked them, tbh). Italian, French and German seem to dominate the field.

Besides, you hear more the notes than the actual words, and are supposed to already know the libretto - or at least the argument.

 

Or if it is a Philip Glass' Opera, then there's no words and no story.
