Undoubtedly. Touring has fewer concerts and higher profits. She grossed $280m in 1 year with TCWT (132 shows) vs $390m in almost 5 years and 720+ shows with AND.

Because it was (mostly) about stability.... it was and it has been the best of both worlds. For them it was not [only] about the $$$$.

It was about stability, taking a gamble and doing something different.

Don't forget that the cost of touring is WAY MORE than staying put in Vegas. And no travel, no planes, no jetlag, etc. That's worth a lot of money too!

If she’s doing Good Morbing America, I’m sure she will at least do Jimmy Fallon as well. Maybe The View? Kelly Ripa? Fingers crossed!

 

I would DIE if she was the musical guest on SNL and then also make some appearances in the sketches!!!!!!!!!

 

I’m also craving another event like at the Edison Ballroom. How lucky those fans were and I’m hoping this event in LA will be equally as special.

You have to consider what the dollar was worth in 2003 compared to when she started summer tours in 2016. $100 million for 3 years was unprecedented for that time.

I guess it all comes down to the fact she was done with tours for a while (Just rewatched "Une an avec Celine" during her LTAL tour..and boy, she was tired AF, putting a great show and face to everything, but the poor thing was under so much stress, Vegas gave her some comfort she never had...that or Rene had to pay a debt to the mob in Vegas haha 😆😆

In 2003 minimum waged in my country is 5 times smaller than recent year. I don't think it's fair to compare the earnings of 2003 with recent years.

I understand your point, but Celine is from North America, where inflation is not such a big deal.

 

Besides, it is fair to compare her earning of 2003 with earnings of 2008. That is just 5 years difference, just like 2014-2019.

Well, I agree. But I think Celine's schedule during world tours was poorly handled. If she has a new tour, she should increase the time gaps between legs to rest, and reduce the number of shows to maybe 60-70. Otherwise, we all know how her voice can turn from angelic at the beginning to the nasal queen at the end (TCWT).

Im pretty sure tours have "expiration dates" ike she HAS to do certain amount of cities/countries before a deadline...otherwise is not profitable...

Don't get me wrong USD 640M is A LOT of money, but the Colosseum did cost USD 200M only to get built...since her shows started in 2003 I was epecting more $$$ in tickets sales...I know her new show was only for a handfull of dates compared to AND, but still I was expecting the Vegas shows to pass the Billion mark

I know Ceasar's got their money back and then some more LOL, the investment was a win-win situation for both parties, but I was expecting more dough!

 

Then you need to reflect on your expectations, as they are not realistic.

 

Celine essentially created the template for a long-term residency format in contemporary Vegas - and even from the beginning, she grossed a multiple of every other show that preceded her. She was NEVER going to gross a billion dollars from "just" 1,200 shows - that's a ludicrous expectation to place on her shoulders.

 

To put into context what you're asking of her - her average ticket price would need to have been $227.27 across 15 years. The average ticket price for a top-tier ticket from live performance between the years 2003-2007 was less than half that.

 

In terms of what she herself pocketed (as I can see discussions about her contract in subsequent posts), the "$100 million contract" was the value she was paid to sign on the dotted line, that wasn't her actual earnings. I once read a report that stated her actual earnings (before tax and fees were deducted) across the 4.5 years she performed in Vegas between 2003-2007 were $250 million (or roughly $350,000 per night). That number obviously shot up when she signed and came back for a second time (where for half the shows, she reportedly signed the same value contract, meaning a per night take home of over $500,000).
