Leo Posted October 4, 2020 at 03:14 AM Posted October 4, 2020 at 03:14 AM And the second best selling album with SSDA, and PQTME reaching the tops all over Europe, and all the songs in French that turned her the best selling singer in French and só on... That's a myth that was debunked. That title was wishful thinking in 1998 to come to terms with the fact that "D'eux" was invincible even by Celine. SSDA didn't reach 2 million copies sold in France. Second biggest selling is "Samedi soir sur la terre" by Francis Cabrel with over 3 million copies. Considering bands and various artists' albums altogether a handful of albums outsold SSDA. Quote
Leo Posted October 4, 2020 at 03:21 AM Posted October 4, 2020 at 03:21 AM Where is the source Data? Chart Master? or the Billboard? Now with streaming and equivalent album units factored in the figures I predict that many historic records will be broken by newer artists in the not too distant future. Quote

Is this a myth? As much as I wish this were true, I am not sure. In France alone, the best selling French album (after D'Eux 4,235,000) is : 1994 Francis Cabrel Samedi soir sur la terre 3,385,000 SISDA sold 4 million world wide, but you'd imagine Cabrel's album also sold quite a lot around the world. But if this is more than 700.000 I don't know. 1 Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th

Of course it may have shifted units in every country but not enough to be certified at least gold outside Europe and Canada. In Europe it may have sold 3 M, 400k in Canada, 100k in the USA, 50k in Japan. 500k in the rest of the world is possible at that time as a side effect of TAST and LTAL. So, 4M worldwide seems like a fair figure to me. Cabrel's album may have sold that adding Quebec and Europe. 1 Quote

Leo Posted October 11, 2020 at 12:03 AM Posted October 11, 2020 at 12:03 AM It's interesting and looks accurate. But I think "Live A Paris" is missing some 500,000 units because it was awarded a 2x platinum certification by IFPI in Europe. Add 200,000 in Canada. I'd estimate its worldwide sales at 2.5 million at least. Quote

Leo Posted October 11, 2020 at 10:49 PM Posted October 11, 2020 at 10:49 PM I'm not sure why Celine's French music is always disregarded in these videos? People who watch these videos on YouTube aren't getting the full picture of Celine's overall worldwide impact. Her French music sales outside the French-speaking market, except for "D'eux" and "S'il suffisait d'aimer", are negligible. She's not like Piaf who became famous worldwide with her French music. Celine is a French-speaking singer who became famous singing in English and some fans became interested in her French music as a result of that popularity. With TAST already charting in the Billboard Holiday Album chart, shouldn't we start a campaign to make either "Christmas Eve" or "The Magic Of Christmas Day" climb the streaming charts? Or maybe help "Happy Christmas" solidify its status as the most popular song of TAST? 2 Quote
smw Posted October 11, 2020 at 11:03 PM Posted October 11, 2020 at 11:03 PM (edited) Are the amounts of records that Celine has sold in French markets actually negligible to not even be considered when looking at her overall success? I’ve never looked at it that way. Even if D’eux and S’il suffisait d’aimer are the only substantial sellers, these two albums are still never included in these chart videos that have become so popular on YouTube. & yes! I’ve been all about campaigning to get Celine songs to climb the charts. A holiday song is a great idea. Happy Xmas (War Is Over) would probably be the most successful choice and would catch on among causal fans the fastest. People love her rendition and it’s already well known. But I do like that The Magic of Christmas Day is considered to be more of an original Celine Christmas song. My vote is for Happy Xmas! Let’s make a plan for all the fans to purchase this song and make it rise. Maybe the day after Thanksgiving? Or Dec 1st? Edited October 11, 2020 at 11:11 PM by smw Quote
