Top 100 Best-Selling Singles Acts of the 1900's

NO 5 - CELINE DION (5,552,100)

18 UK TOP 40 HITS

BIGGEST HIT: MY HEART WILL GO ON (1,312,000)

Whilst Madonna did well she couldn’t quite manage to beat Celine’s Total. She is of course the only female artist to have two million selling singles to her credit when the 90s ended. She made the top 10 artists in 1995, 96 and 98 where she even managed to make No 2 in the list of top selling singles act thanks to that Titanic record. She outstripped all other females on the list, not bad for an ex-Eurovision winner....

What about album sales?

It’s weird that Spotify did it again. I’m not sure whether these figures are accurate, especially since they appear to come directly from Spotify’s own data. But if these numbers are correct, I’m honestly surprised that this album pulled in over 2 million streams in a single day. That’s a pretty impressive figure! 👀

The track 'Beauty and the Beast' from Celine Dion's self-titled album just lost 1.9M cumulative streams. This is odd!image.png.d76435f588d86be8cd76e88a91aa8d0e.png

BATB shows now 1,771,000 streams on the My Love compilation…

Same for « Immortality », streams have been split between LTAL/ATW and My Love.

But if I’m not wrong MHWGO lost like 4M streams yesterday…from 724M to 720M!

It happened to a lot of artists yesterday, songs got combined or split apart with other versions. The “missing” MHWGO streams went back to the Back to Titanic album that had combined the Dialogue Mix version with the Let’s Talk About Love version previously. And it seems the same happened with Immortality and BATB across different albums.

Some songs finally got combined too. Tell Him went from 67 million on the LATL album to 84 million because it was combined with the version from Barbra’s album. Brahm’s Lullaby, Partout je te vois, and the radio version of IACBTMN are three more Celine songs that I can think of where this happened too. Which made that version of IACBTMN cross 100 million streams now. So, it is odd, and looks like a lot of songs suddenly gained or lost streams, but the streams were just redistributed.

Here are the additional updates:

"It's All Coming Back to Me Now" became her 18th track to cross 100 million streams.

Her compilation album ATWADOS instantly shifted from 555M to 592M streams.

These Are Special Times rose from 575M to 580M streams.

"My Love (Radio Version)" surged from 1,551,939 to 5,044,023 streams.

"I Believe in You (Je crois en toi)" is now over 58M (up from 48M).

"Brahms' Lullaby" jumped from 3.2M to 9.3M streams.

I think the numbers look pretty buggy right now. Oddly enough, "My Love" from Taking Chances shares the exact same cumulative stream count as the Radio Version, which points to a glitch in how the tracks were merged.

Yeah, I saw a lot of these too since her Spotify numbers updated on Kworb!

Some of these don’t seem that odd. They combined the versions of I Believe in You from her On Ne Change Pas album and the one on Il Divo’s single.

They combined Brahm’s Lullaby from the Miracle and TAST albums.

The Prayer went up, I don’t really know from where. That and Brahm’s Lullaby account for the increase in streams for TAST.

Combining the two radio edits of ITACBTMN was a little odd since they had different song lengths and were different edits.

I was glad they finally combined the two versions of Partout je te vois (the one on Incognito and the one on ONCP).

I wonder if one day they will separate the streams for the English and French versions of Et je t’aime encore.

It seems like some numbers are updating again today and The Prayer went back to its usual numbers. So, maybe some more will be revised in the coming days too!

The IACBTMN radio edits are also now separate again and no longer count as her 18th song to pass 100 million streams on Spotify.

I still don’t know why they separated Brahm’s Lullaby again. And it’s still not clear what happened to the streams for Immortality and BATB. Maybe those will come back too. Tell Him is still combined (for now).

On August 21, the system adjusted the metric back to its organic count. Factoring in the track's normal daily gain (~81,999 streams across the 5 days from Aug 16 to 21), the totals align seamlessly with real organic growth once the ~16.14M anomaly is removed.

Kworb shows The Prayer got over 300k streams yesterday on Spotify. Is that correct or some glitch? It seems like a very sudden surge

They weren’t quite phantom streams, they combined the streaming totals of the song from Celine’s album with the streaming totals of the song from Barbra’s Higher Ground (and her compilation albums). That’s what I was trying to explain last week was that most of these “glitches” were because they combined or separated streaming totals. Spotify has been readjusting streaming totals about once a month now. The massive Chart Data account on X posts about it a lot. There were just a few songs that I don’t fully know where the streams came from/went.

That one is a glitch. I’m not quite sure where the extra streams are coming from. For instance, Because You Loved Me got a small boost because they finally combined the main version with the one from the I Am Celine Dion soundtrack, which they had been counting those streams as separate. But I haven’t been able to determine if the same happened with the Prayer. I’m not sure if there was a version of the song that was being counted separate from the main version and has now been combined (or not).

It’s from Barbra’s album The Higher Ground, which was added to Celine Dion’s current cumulative streams. Now I get it.

Celine — 68,017,342 (as of August 21)
Barbra — 16,341,766 (as of August 21))
Total — 84,293,322 streams (as of August 21)

So, yes, Spotify merged their streams and switched back to its original pattern after five days.

Exactly! But not all changes were reversed. It looks like they kept BYLM combined (the versions from FIY and I Am Celine Dion). But then, MHWGO is still separate (the LTAL and Back To Titanic versions are no longer combined). So, I don’t know who determines how things are combined/separated. That part is a mystery to me!

I really don't understand why Spotify has been glitching lately. It first happened on the 17th, and then they brought it back again yesterday.

I’m not sure either. I thought they already had it how they wanted it, but I guess not. For instance, Luciano Pavarotti’s most-streamed song on Spotify now is his live duet of Hero with Mariah Carey. But it didn’t actually gain 300 million + streams, they just combined it with her studio version. So, I don’t know why that happened either, but I hope it gets fixed.

Sometimes this happens on YouTube Music as well. Many songs, such as "My Heart Will Go On" and "Because You Loved Me," had their streams reallocated to albums that aren't Céline's. Recently, the streams for "The Prayer" were redistributed between Céline's and Bocelli's albums.

Yeah, it’s kind of annoying/weird that they can’t just keep it one way! For instance, on YouTube, Celine’s MHWGO music video was “linked” to the version from her LTAL album for the longest time, but now it’s “linked” to her LTAL/ANDHC combo album, which looks  less aesthetically pleasing lol.
