It’s really weird how Sony is handling her catalog. They just released an anniversary edition of Britney’s Oops!… I Did It Again album and are actually doing some promotion. I heard Sony is even hosting a listening party — which isn’t much, but compared to what they’re doing for Celine, it’s already something.

 

I just saw that Mariah is doing a Live Sessions performance on YouTube tomorrow to promote the anniversary edition of The Emancipation of Mimi too.

 

They’re all under branches of the same label. And although I do believe Celine’s team is largely to blame, it’s clearly not just that. Britney doesn’t even have a team, and she’s already made it clear she has nothing to do with this re-release — but Sony is still going ahead with it.

There's a possibility/likelihood that at some point during her heyday, Céline's contract was renegotiated to the effect that nothing could be released without her approval (not that uncommon for artists who have a lot of clout, and I'm sure René would have been all over it). That could explain why Sony hasn't tried milking the catalogue (particularly during the recent drought), releasing unreleased tracks, etc., and would mean that Céline and her team would have to actively engage to get anything to happen. Britney likely has no input in what happens to her material given that everything was taken out of her control years ago (so Sony can do whatever they want), and Mariah seems to be the one helping to drive the train on her re-releases (so she's actively involved in the final products).

 

It's also possible that they don't want to release anything because they keep thinking they're gearing up for something big and don't want to dilute the impact when it does happen.

 

Now, whether those are wise decisions or not is another thing entirely...

I don't think this is a matter of Celine not caring, but probably her priorities has changed completely. We all saw her seizure, imagine that happening to your body regularly in the last few years, how can you care about anything else than getting well or controlling those episodes? I still hope they have managed to control her condition and they are just planning a big come back. If not, at some point they will have to announce her retirement (at least from live concerts). Celine was never interested in promotion, business, or marketing. Before, during, or after Rene.

 

All she cares about is singing. So it's all about the team she has around her. We were spoiled when Amazon Prime team took over and not Sony/Team Celine during the documentary era.

 

If she can't perform or sing, then the thing to do is open the vaults. But her team has refused to do that and I don't see that changing.

I don't know whether London trip was personal or pro but today technology allows you to record your voice everywhere you are in the word and share soundtracks without travelling the world to record in a special place. She did "Love again" french dubbing in Vegas.
