What do you mean? They had some solid artists there - just didn't let some of them shine.

These French variety shows are so canned... I mean, I respect Drucker and his legacy, but his style is so out of touch now. This kind of thing may have played well a few decades ago, but now the audience is too savvy and nothing about this rings true. This was one of the more cringe-worthy Celine TV appearances in a long time, I have to say. It doesn't help that when she's not singing live, she overcompensates by going waaay over the top with her mannerisms and it's just awkward. Just let the girl sing!

The Robert Charlebois segment was real, and I enjoyed that, but other than that this was forgettable.

(Thought Jain was great though, as was Veronique Sanson's Et je l'appelle encore. Quite enjoyed Claudio Capeop, Coeur de Pirate/ Marc Lavoin / Arthur H, and Christophe Mae as well. Celine...meh, not so much.)

I might be deluding myself right now, but I consider PQTME such a huge hit in France that IMO even casual fans would understand that she was lipping to the album version. If so, then this is a very good reason to switch channel. Which can - partially - explain the low ratings.

 

Other than that, I sense that the days that we got good televised live performances of French songs are far behind us. Anything from D'elles or SA was lipped.

 

 

I have to disagree a little bit with you on that. Back in 2012 she delivered an intimate yet epic acoustic performance of Je N'ai Pas Besoin D'amour at 'Tout Le Monde En Parle'; not to mention the moving duet with Patrick Bruel on Qui a le Droit at 'Le Grand Show'. But yes, most (95%) of her TV performances (in Europe) are lipped now. Such a shame...

I don't know the reasons behind but seems like the bubble of her big TV specials has exploded with this album? Did the formula die of success with Sans attendre?

 

OR has she earned so much money with the summer tour that a full TV special for the album was regarded as unnecessary then? I hope this is not the case, but we can't forget Celine is in an industry where she's to make money as everyone and maybe Aldo thought that with the massive ticket sales it was enough promotion for the album? Everything is possible with this business unfortunately

 

I mean, it's odd to say the least that they haven't done any TV special dedicated to this album per se, as with they used to with every new French release. And I agree that the fact they haven't invited the songwriters or performed duets and share all of them one same stage together it's really strange

 

Unless the big TV special dedicated fully to the album is coming in November, this promotion is being so odd.

Yes, it's odd. I hope they prepare a big show dedicated to the new album for the re-release. It would be amazing if she sang ALL the songs from the album (+some classsics, or not) on the Vegas stage with extraordinary visuals that they don't dare to include during her regular show.

Ah yes! I never liked this one. EVERYONE else seems to love this acoustic performance though! But you are right that I am wrong. I just remembered her singing PAMP, UCQS, JNPBD, as well as a medley of her hits live on promo TV appearances back in 2012. Good era. I hope we still get to see some of that. Question: does the album sell? Yes it does. In both France and Canada (not to forget, but last week it was #1 in Canada in terms of pure sales). And it does pretty well in Belgium and Switzerland as well.

 

Conclusion: EUS single success is solid and pushes the album. There is no need to invest in marketing right now. There is a re-release in November and the next big sales are Xmas. So if you do not want to create a feeling of "overdion" when promotion shall be needed, you have to let it flow now. Otherwise people will be sick of her. Too much is too much. Die hard fans want to have Céline on every TV show, but the general public no. If you have to be eager to see her again when she comes back for winter, you need to leave some space right now. There was a TV show where she sang every two week or so. That was a right timing.

 

Frankly, on a pure sales viewpoint, I think the strategy is currently perfect. Nothing to change.

The next phase should be pushing the next single around end-October / mid-November with the rerelease and then having more show for the Xmas period to reiterate the success of SA at that period.

 

Until then, let people be more hungry.

You're so right, and I absolutely agree on that. There's probably been too much Celine during this summer and for several months in a row. Maybe that explains the low ratings of Le grand show too. General public needs some air too, even from Celine.

Céline is always singing at playback during TV shows here in Europe. I don ´t remember when she was singing live during TV shows in Europe in recent years, expcect live performing of Taking chances and Love me back to life in UK. Maybe it´s easier for her, and also I think there was not much time for rehearsal as she did this TV special and one for M6 during one day as I remember. I´m OK with Céline in Le grand show it was not something great but it was what I expected. And also her dress was not greatone but not so bad IMO. And I like her hair here better than wig.

I'd rather have a good playback than a bad live performance... I've always said this, when it comes to songs she's going to perform just once or a few times (like probably it's the case of Les yeux au ciel). It's much much better to have a playback performance nicely done than a bad live version.

i hope it is the last time she does a show with Michel Drucker who can't help himself and repeat how he gave her a chance and bal bla. I don't deny it, but it could have been someone else also. All those people who want to have credit for the succes of Celine , at the end it bothers me. Celine is so humble and we see a lot of people who doesn't share that quality. At the very least , Aldo seems to be humble . Scott is like that too, and a lot of people who works directly with Celine. I'm happy that she have kind people around her. To be faithful is ok, but now it is really bad for her to continue to work with him.

To me a proper TV Special around the album does not have to be long, and does not have to feature other guests either.

 

- A short interview of Celine about the album and the era in general.

- Live performances of 4 album tracks with few words introducing each song before its performance.

- A recording sessions video of 4 other songs and Celine making brief comments on that.

Yeah the lipping on this show was tough to watch. I actually had to fast forward all of them. The ending of PQTME was like "ummmm okay" haha oh well, hopefully better promo and actually live performances in Nov/Dec!
