Plus, at that time, I guess Celine was fluent in English and handling long interviews in a very appropriate way

 

I would understand that Celine would catch up René's approval for what she would answer, but still...

Ana said lovely and wonderful things about Celine's voice.

 

The mean things she says, let's be honest, will get her press. Should she have been more respectful in light of Rene's passing and her brother's passing? Yes. Not to mention her comments were rude and unnecessary for the interview. But, this will get Ana some press.

 

Also, her comments sounds largely based on the fact Celine said Ana's voice was bad. Which Celine either meant or she was joking, and, either way, it just sounds like Ana took it personally. She sounds a little bitter.

This was bitching for the most part. To call Celine a skilled singer is not even a compliment or a nice thing to say. Just stating the obvious.

 

The worst part of what I just heard is that she acts as if Celine was introduced to the English-speaking world in 1998. How could she possibly say that Celine could not understand English and that she spoke phonetically? Total bullshit.

 

Second, everyone who has watched Celine interviews can confirm that she mainly comes off as a modest, down-to-earth person and not as a narcissist.

 

I don't mind she hates her music though. This is up to opinion and I respect her point of view. The rest bullshit she spew though is uncalled for.

I never liked her making fun of Celine and Rene's relationship back in the day, never found it funny and still don't. I guess we are all protective of her but talking trash on her is uncalled for, Ana obviously doesn't know much about Celine.

Ana was Elphaba in Wicked, on Broadway. She actually is an accomplished singer. Either way, there was no need to diss Celine.

I think interviewers of Celine give her a lot of leeway (sp). She is so nice and her accent so cute, that she can get away with a wrong answer or a right one that smoothes over stuff and the interviewer doesn't grill her about it because......she is Celine! I don't care for a lot of Celine's music either although I listen to it because I love her and Rene'. Obviously, Celine has managed to be successful....this lady, whomever she is, may have an envy problem....ya think?? LOL You go Celine!!

If she met Celine in 1998 and thought she didn't speak English . . . then she must be the one with the language difficulty. That's absurd . . .probably Ana started telling this story in 1998 and kept exaggerating Celine's language difficulty until the story came in this form. Memory is a funny thing.

LOVE that Behind the Music video. So nice to see it again! Celine has always been so grounded. What year was the interview shot with her? 1999?

I always loved Ana on SNL. I think she probably is still a bit naive/uneducated when it comes to Celine and her career. But she is a very talented comedian and I always loved her Celine impression. She did so many fantastic sketches during her time on SNL.

Unfortunately I just think people think it's the "cool" thing to hate on Celine. It's slowly changing I believe tho, many people are owning the fact that Celine is one of their inspirations now than before. I remember a time when it was not even a tiny bit cool to like Celine's music ( her English music). Now people are finally starting to realize and acknowledge the fact that her instrument is 1 in a trillion. I must say I think her success in Las Vegas has had a HUGE impact on that, people no longer think of Celine as a joke. They may not like her music but they are starting to feel like she's a legend and are starting to treat her like the true living legend that she is. I can feel the difference when she attends a award show,p for example celebrities go crazy to meet and see her. I also think that most living legends tend to make very few appearances ( which Celine does) with exception to her Vegas show and that makes people respect her more when she does make an appearance; less is more many times.

Also people are realising and praising her work ethic etc. I think comparing her to other divas of Celine's generation has made them think, and respect exactly what she sacrificed and achieved. Like you said, you don't have to like her music to be respectful, or to acknowledge her legacy. And yes, vegas has helped that. The success, the longevity. Artists come and go but celine is a mainstay. Very few people can and have actually do that. I'm proud of the fact she's up there with Elvis, The Beatles, Frank etc.

I hope she gets more acknowledgment over the next few years.

I read what she said about Celine and I guarantee that Celine did not tell Ana that people were going to laugh because she was going to sound "so orrible". Even if Ana was a bad singer, it isn't in Celine's nature to tell someone they suck at something.
