Official statement:

 

CELINE DION PERFORMANCES SCHEDULED WEDNESDAY, JULY 30 THROUGH WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6 CANCELED

 

We regret to inform you that the following five Celine performances at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace have been canceled.

 

• Wednesday, July 30

• Friday, Aug. 1

• Saturday, Aug. 2

• Tuesday, Aug. 5

• Wednesday, Aug. 6

 

After experiencing prolonged discomfort in her throat area, Celine was examined by her physicians this afternoon. They discovered acute inflammation and swelling in the muscles adjacent to her vocal chords, and have prescribed anti-inflammatory medication and instructed her to rest her voice for the next 8 days.

Oh no that's awful. Feel so sorry for the fans who will miss out , but we know Celine hates to cancel more than anything.

Is anyone else noticing that she seems to be getting sick quite a bit? I feel like every leg of this show for the past 2 years has had a cancellation. It's making me quite wary of booking a trip...

Celine has never been sick this close together. It kind of worries me that she got sick again so quick, after just being sick. I hope she gets better soon.

Tracy, count me in. Talk to me more about this and let's DO IT. I'm all in, LOL. I know. This is freaking me out. I cannot listen to her when this happens. Is anyone else so aversely affected by this? I think her trip to Montreal may? have had something to doowith this? To be honest, I am so angry at this inflammation and whatever it is. I wish it would find someone else's vocal cord muscles to attack. I quit singing when I lost my vision, so it can have mine. But quit doing this to her whatever is doing it. I know I sound real irrational right now, but still. So scared/sad for her. I want nothing more than for her to feel good again reeeeeeeeeeeeally soon!

I can only imagine how disappointing it must be to go to Vegas and have her cancel. But we all know how difficult it is for her to cancel. She feels so bad for her fans too.

She was sick July 5, this time she's dealing with swellings in the throat from straining and/or singing to much or too intensely. Her swellings are near her vocal cords so if continued it can do great damage to her voice. Its best to take this eight day break. It often happens to me especially when I sing extremely difficult songs such as ”A World To Believe In", or others in this range for a long period of time. Doing this nonstop for 2 hours is really stressful, believe me.

Personally i've found lady gaga tix to bide my evening tonight! Not the same whatsoever but it'll do ;p And singing my heart out everyday at the store for hours is proving entertaining. Feel free to join me, anyone else who's hangin out there.

Love that attitude, Lyn. I worry that those who go and this happens to them will stop being fans. I understand being somewhat leery of going now, although since this seems to happen during the summer mostly, I think that would be one way to avoid that. But I love that you are still finding a way to be close to her by singing your heart out at the store. Did you get to see one date at least? Hope so, maybe? that will kinda sorta maybe tide you over. LOL and Matty is right, it is amazing how easy it is for singers to have these things. I have a candle lit for her and invite anyone else who wants to do the same to join me.

Most people who were told on the spot that the show was cancelled were of course shocked, but very understanding. Some poor dears were crying, I think it was probably gonna be their first show ever, and I really felt for them. (if it wasn't gonna be my.. 9th and 10th viewings i would've cried too)

 

There were really downright *@!&$^ rude people though,.. these were obviously the non-fans who were just casually there to watch a show (and ironically, weren't the ones who'd built an entire trip around it). A group of girls posed around her picture and flipped her the bird. I really wanted to slap them but -cough-i'm too docile and non confrontational-cough-

 

Anyway I really loved how they had so many staff out to explain to people what had happened and listen to stories of how far they came... everyone's disappointed of course so it helps a lot to feel validated when someone just listens to your "I JUST FLEW 9000 miles!!" and goes "oh i know.. that's terrible"..

I probably would have been arrested... I would have knocked them out completely...I can't stand people.... I hope they get sick one day and miss something that's really important to them and then get treated like crap for it by everyone around them... Makes me so mad

Another block of shows cancelled... four more dates until Wednesday August 13th... She must be very sick. Saw this on AXS.

Following dates cancelled: Friday August 8, Saturday August 9, Tuesday August 12, Wednesday August 13. She's starting to get sick way too often...
